  1. Look forward to seeing you guys come out. I think a few people are going to be shocked on 1-mile speeds. Just to give you an idea. Stock cars: 335i- 147mph 2010 Camaro - 150ish 2008 GT500 - 159 2010 Gallardo - 168ish 2010 ZR1- 177-181ish 08-09 Viper- 175-178ish 2010 Viper- 181-183ish 2009 GT-R 166-168 VW R32- 135ish Ford GT- 170-173ish Modded 2008 GT500 (stock limiter removed)- 167-169ish 2010 Camaro 497rwhp 163mph 2010 ZR1 Lingenfelter 710hp package 195mph 2010 CTS-V 700hp went 184mph VW GTI 800whp+ went 208mph HPA R32-TT 169ish Ford GT (pulley/tune) 184
  2. Typically it's one vehicle at a time due to safety reasons and timing equipment costs. I have seen them run a few but it was for a TV show/filming and not standard op... They use Tag Heuer timing equipment which I think is a infared beam timing system...
  3. Depends on a lot of things but you could do it... Yep, most of the stock motor Z06's throw a big shot on and run 200+... http://mtiracing.blogspot.com/2010/03/texas-mile-mti-corvette-top-speed.html No need to do all that. Just start out basic and work your way up as you make changes. You'd have to check tire size, ratios, drag, etc..but it's possible. Here's an LT1 that went 199mph... http://www.youtube.com/user/boostnation#p/u/22/Nm_A-Zl5d6k
  4. Depending how the details are worked out, if it's like Texas there will only be a certain amount of entry's allowed so people will be able to get more runs. If there is an unlimited number then you spend the entire time waiting in line and hardly racing which = NO FUN for anyone. Texas started out with 160-entries and then as people went home/blew up, whatever, they kept a stand by list. As people withdrew the people on the standby list were then allowed to race. Personally, I think a 3-day race is a MUST have because most people coming from out of town need the extra time. It also gives you more chances to run, test, tune, etc. if you have a problem and have to fix it overnight (for those not local). The problem now is Texas has gotten so big they are up to 260-entries (over 300 with standby list) and it's made it very hard to get runs in. Before you had no trouble running 20-25 times during the weekend. Now it's down to 10-15 if you are lucky. Even the big guys are down to just 4 or 5 runs which kind of stinks. I'll post more as we get info...
  5. Thank you for the poll.... Glad to be getting such great feedback so far, keep the thoughts coming. I already contacted TRC and they won't allow a competition event since they are non-profit. I hoped we could just rent one of the 2-mile straights but they said they would have to pretty much shut down all oval testing and the price would sky rocket. There is another venue being worked on, they are waiting to hear from the County Port Authority to see if they will allow it. So far they have been very open to the idea so fingers crossed that it keeps pressing towards an actual event...
  6. Just curious who on here would do it if there was one closer? If so, what would you bring and what would your goal be? How much are you willing to pay to do it 2 or 3 day event (Fri, Sat, Sun)? $100-200-300? For those that don't know what I mean, it would be a 1-mile drag race with a 3/4-mile shut down. There are a few people working to get this done, just curious what the take on here is and if it would succeed? It would be similar to: http://www.texasmile.net/ http://www.milemarker-1.com/ http://www.mojavemile.com/ http://www.ecta-lsr.com/ (If a mod could make this a poll, that would be great!) Poll: Yes No- why? I would at least come watch
  7. I don't know what you are looking for but we've got a pretty much brand new D80 I could probably make you a deal on. Wife wants a D7000 now so let me know if you are interested?
  8. Personally, I wouldn't buy anything on your list. Invest the money into something else....
  9. My wifes a nurse so I can get more info if you need it... 1. She has a Bachelors and for an extra year I would go for it. Like others have said, more marketable but doesn't mean you will be better. There are plenty of BSN's that come out of school with little or no skills. My wife has multiple Bachelor's so she went through an accelerated program. She had more skill and knowledge than some of the girls that went to school for 4-years for Nursing.... 2. She worked at Miami Valley for a couple years right out of school in an ICU. Now in Texas she works at a Sports Medicine/Private practice. She did a lot of Nursing home care in High School though... 3. Miami Valley and many other hospitals in Ohio start out around $20hr (IMO not enough) but there are so many different area's it just depends. 12hr days (14 by the time you give/get report) for 3-days pays you for 40. More available if you want. They also have a program where you work straight weekends only and get paid for 40-hours. Some worked Sat/Sun and then had another gig during the week. You can make lots but starting out pay isn't really that great. Now in Texas she gets paid considerably MORE ($30+ still not great IMO) than she did in Ohio, just depends where you work...
  10. Plenty going for $20k on auto trader but realistically $14-16k.....(mind you I would never pay that due to the miles alone, regardless if it were perfect and looked new). They are probably thinking even lower than $13k because it's been in a few wrecks before correct?
  11. I would make sure you do and anyone you know does. If you are in a wreck they can deny paying or reimbursing coverage of TRICARE if they know that...
  12. Until the wrong person catches you. Look in the AFI, you are required to wear gear and have a MSF course to ride on base as well as a reflective vest at night. Some commanders feel the need to require a reflective vest 24/7...
  13. I guess I misunderstood you and thought you just wanted something to get to Texas and back with the occasional track/weekend trip. Didn't realize you were going cross country through the mountains. How often will you be doing this? In that case, you need to spend a LOT more than $5k. You really aren't going to get anything nice for that much. It's either going to be ragged out or on it's last leg which is going to cost you more in repairs in the long run. Diesel is preferred but if you don't have the budget or need for it, the gas will do just fine. Be more specific in your towing needs, duration, weight, etc...?
  14. No offense but you are looking at OVER KILL for what you want to tow... If you want something cheap that will tow, get a Crown Vic or something like that. Plenty of cars that will tow 3-bikes on a trailer and get better mileage. You don't need a Diesel or 2500+ for what you want... Hell, you might just be better off RENTING a 1500 truck when you need it and then return it. That way you don't have to worry about maintenance, upkeep or any of the other crap. Plus if you have a problem on the road, they come get it and/or give you another...
  15. Yep and wider wheels. Supposedly beat the CTS-V on the "Ring" this year to become the fastest production 4-door even over the Panamera... Article: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/10q2/2011_subaru_impreza_wrx_sti_sets_nuerburgring_lap_record-feature Vids: http://carvideos.caranddriver.com/?bcpid=627028702&bclid=30090215001&bctid=90726510001 http://www.subaru.jp/newmodels/sti.html
  16. Racing year round is always good...
  17. Linn, you really need to make a trip to Texas...
  18. Nothing I really WANT to drive but wouldn't be caught dead in... I could really care less what others think; if they are basing there opinion of me on the car I am driving. It's funny driving beaters and seeing peoples reaction. People think they are so much better than you based on your car... I know millionaires that drive beaters, they just don't care about automobiles.
  19. Damn....another point for the Army... Air Force in the past just needed a MSF course and reflective vest to ride on base. Off base they don't even care but it is a requirement so if you get caught you will be in some shit. Then again, with all the stories of people doing dumb crap I'm really not suprised. Everyone gets that deployment money and comes back to buy a bike and end up hurting themselves because they don't know what they are doing. Glad they stepped it up but they need to make sure motorcycle people are running the program also...
  20. You really can't got wrong with either color. Love the new 2011's just wish they would have upped the power or something. I chose Grey because dirt really doesn't show that bad when it's dirty but white is nice as well. Then again, you might just be stuck with whatever color you find a Limited in (the Plasma Blue Pearl looks great as well)...
  21. What do you plan to use the bike for? The R6S is a better street bike but if you plan on track days you may want the newer/racer model R6. The R6S is essentially the previous gen model that they still produce for people that want something more street friendly. The price isn't bad but you have to remember the second you drive off the lot, you have a 2-year OLD bike. So it depends if it's worth it to you for a NEW 2-year old bike. Yamaha currently has a $1,200 rebate AND 4.99% financing right now so is that with or without the rebate? If you can get that price AND the rebate, that's really not a bad buy. Others to look at as well if you want to talk the dealer down more on the 2009: R6S: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-2009-YAMAHA-Raven-R6-S-BELOW-DEALER-COST-0-Setup-/360329514525?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item53e5500e1d R6: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2009-Yamaha-YZF-R6-/400180469051?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item5d2c9d5d3b Then again, don't know what color you want but here is a 2010 for $7,599 (which is a little more OTD but a better buy if you are financing): http://www.hondaeasttoledo.com/showcaseproductdetail.htm?ID=9997219&Brand=40&Type=1787&fm=1 If you are looking to spend a certain amount, you can get a LOT of bikes for that price. Hell, in this economy I've seen 08/09 Busa's with under 1k miles for that price. Lots of people moving ALL brands for CHEAP right now...
  22. There is someone in Richwood that does what you are planning. I believe he is guard on the weekends now and flies for Life Flight during the week. If you are back in town sometime I could probably get his contact info if you don't find what you need....
