  1. Just build your own (or have a custom-fit one built). You will be much happier with the results. I would think a ported box would be more of what you want, depending on the setup. One 12" or 15" may meet your needs if it is a good sub/amp in the proper ported box. Andersons does have some cheap boxes - I used their cheap 6x9 enclosers for the Eclipse 6x9's I mounted under the dash.
  2. I saw some of the motherboards could run as dual channel, though I guess there is probably a performance hit. Regardless, 3 DIMMS is fine. But will I see a real-world performance hit running running 1333 vs 2000?
  3. I already knew Microcenter for the processor...they are a good $80 less than everyone else. From what I read, the main difference between the 920 and 930 was 1x higher on the multiplier for the 930. I guess the 920 will be phased out in place of the 930. Motherboard is really my difficult decision. I will eventually overclock it - probably do a water cooling setup in a year or so. So I want a motherboard that is decently capable. Looks like 8+ SATA ports is about out of the question, so I'll have to buy an expansion card...no biggie. The P6T looks like it is everything I will need, and I've been happy with my current Asus motherboards. But if I can get an under $200 motherboard that I can also be happy with, that's even better. I'll check out that MSI board. I was planning 6+ GB RAM. May just start with 4GB and upgrade later. Is there a real-world performance difference (not just some minor bench test differences) between the 1066 memory up to the 2000? There sure is a price difference!
  4. 60k? I assume he rents, because most of us here are in far more debt than that. Also, what kinds of debt?
  5. From everything I can find, there isn't much out there for compression of H264 and VC-1 files, which is what I am dealing with. At least not from the good amount of research I have done. If you know of anything - by all means, please! Shawn - thanks for the recomendation; I'll need to look up some prices. Any ram you suggest (price vs. performance).
  6. Since I only live a few minutes away, I may be game.
  7. My birthday is coming up, and my wife wants a list. It’s time to upgrade the PC. Current rig: - Asus A8NSLI Deluxe mother board, with very nice copper chipset fan to replace garbage Asus fan - 4 1GB sticks PC3200 Ram - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Processor (dual core @ 2.4 GHz) - Two XFX 7600GT XXX Edition video cards - Ultra Full-Tower Case - Hyper 590 watt modular power supply (conservatively rated) - 1 SATA DVD Burner, 1 IDE DVD Burner - 1 SATA Blu-ray burner - Four 160GB SATA hard drives in a RAID-0, ran as my primary drive - One 500 GB SATA hard drive - One 1TB SATA hard drive That’s the main stuff – have a built-in card reader, push fan and a pull fan for case cooling, and a couple other random things. I want a Core i7 setup. I want the 920 chip or something similar in price/performance. Motherboard is where I need more guidance. Though I have my cards setup so they can run SLI, I don’t use that feature. I am not a PC gamer, but I run four monitors, so I need both cards. I do a LOT of video compression / transcoding, which is very CPU intensive – this is where my current system is lacking. Doing high quality compression of 40 GB files down to 7 – 25 GB (depending on what I’m doing), takes a very long time (30 hours plus). I need to shorten that time span a lot. Motherboard needs to have at least 4 SATA ports w/ a built-in RAID controller, and at least 4 regular SATA ports. Must have dual PCI Express slots so I can run both video cards. Also needs an IDE port, or at least 5 Sata ports, as I’m willing to dump my IDE burner for a SATA burner if I have the ports for it. I’m not willing to give up my RAID or any of my hard drives. Also need 4+ GB of Ram, depending on price. Anyone have any suggestions? Power supply and everything else should be fine for my needs. Price is also a concern, as I don’t want a $350 motherboard.
  8. Get more to the basics - what is your price point, how large of a bed do you need, MPG expectations, how old and how many miles are you willing to deal with, etc.?
  9. PM me with your address and current package with AT&T, and I can put a package together for you.
  10. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to run a solid state drive in a car PC, just due to the constant beating the thing takes?
  11. Seriously, you have to compare specs. You can't pay for a Ford Focus and expect it to perform like a Ford GT. That $19.95 DSL package with AT&T. Yeah, it's cheap, because it is SLOW. UP TO 768k down / up to 384k up. Since Time Warner doesn't want to advertise their upload speeds (for a reason - because they suck), their lite package is "up to 768k down." I am guessing their upload will be even slower than AT&T DSL, as I am sadly stuck with TW where I live, and even with having their 7Mbps package, I can't even get 500k upload speeds. WOW - the SLOWEST package is 2Mbps down / 1Mbps up. Notice their is no "up to" verbage for WOW's speeds: http://www1.wowway.com/InternetMain/ There is a reason WOW is #1 in customer satisfication in the US for cable, internet, and phone (rated by JD Power). With WOW, you WILL get the advertised speeds out of our modem (assuming no issues with the rest of your equipment - routers, PC's, etc.). If you aren't getting that speed, we will fix it to ensure you do. If you are paying for 2Mbps service, you damn well better get it. PM me and I will get you a price for the WOW 2Mbps package. It won't be as cheap as the AT&T DSL...but it will be a hell of a lot faster and more reliable.
  12. He mentions WOW, I ask him to send me his address so I can look for him. So your answer would be no.
  13. So what you are saying is you don't have a 99 Cobra like you have listed as your vehicle and in your sig?
  14. That's beautiful and awesome, but I'd have 2 concerns: - Heating/Cooling (as everyone mentioned). Not just the cost, but having your living room get the heat / freeze every time you open the garage door. - The smell. Exhaust fumes, oil/fuel/grease smells, etc. There is a reason you don't heat your garage using the same heating/cooling system as your house. You home will smell like a garage (not a totally bad thing, but not something you want 24/7...especially when everything you own, including you, smells like that). I'm sure with the large air space it isn't as big of a concern as a smaller garage, but I would guess it could still be an issue.
  15. I'm about 12 minutes from Alum marina. I'd be in for having an extra person or 2 on my boat, so I can go wakeboarding during the week (screw going to Alum on a weekend). Day doesn't really matter - my wife and I usually take the boat out once during the week to either Alum or O'shaughnessy.
  16. http://her.realliving.com/Property/Details.aspx?PropID=14997358 3 bed, 2 bath, large attached 2-car garage. $124,998 The story: I bought this house off of the original owner that had it built in 1968. Purchased in April 2002. From there, I didn't do a lot to the house. Cleared out the forest of a back yard, fixed some things the previous owner did, and just took care of the place. I lived it with a couple of different roomates from then until July 2008. At that time, I moved out to move in with my fiancee (wife now). From then, I was renting it, but losing money monthly. Rented it for a little over a year, until the a-holes up and moved out when I upped the rent. They were hard on the house. Since October, I've been working on it. Those who have seen the house from when I lived there vs. now are amazed at the difference - the house is easily the nicest it has ever been since it was built. The home: 3-level split (front is like a ranch, back is like a split), 3 bedroom house on a quiet Cul-da-sac in Reynoldsburg. Just south of Main St, just east of Brice (very convient location). Never experience an ounce of crime the entire time I've owned this home. Large 2-car garage (24x24), decent sized fenced-in yard. Driveway will hold 4 vehicles. Front curb is very long, so a lot of on-street parking in front of the house as well. Seperate heat / AC in the garage (newer units). Skylights in the kitchen and living room. Fireplace downstairs. Lots of mature trees on the lot - two of the front trees bloom really nicely in the spring. Large, easy to access crawl space allows a lot of storage room. The bad: - Back yard could use some cleaning up, which I will do when it warms up if I still have the joint. All easy work - hard stuff has been done long ago - Fence needs cheap, minor repair where it meets the house - Needs a full mulch job out front - $50 in mulch and 2 hours will get it done - again, spring time deal. - No fridge. Stove is older but works fine. Dishwasher is older, but does a really good job. - Central air unit is old, but works perfectly - never had to sink a dime into it, and have never had a problem with it. The ugly: Edit - The downstairs bathroom was gutted, we were going to just do a 1/2 bath. After further consideration, it is now going to be a full bath. Most of what is needed has already been purchased, and I will be going over there today to get the rest of the drywall and cement board hung, and hopefully start on mudding. Will be doing a ceramic tile wall for the shower, hopefully I can get the bathroom done in the next couple of weeks. At that point the ugly = the good. The good: - Wallpaper pulled from all rooms (took forever), repainted all walls. - Flooring throughout entire house is brand new. Carpet installed 3/3/10 (never been walked on with shoes since install). Carpet installed upstairs and downstairs. A very nice looking laminate is installed on the 1st floor. - All new baseboards on downstairs, 1st floor, and bathroom. All other boards / trim has been repainted. - New lighting throughout most of house. Only places it wasn't changed was laundry room, gutted bathroom, and hallway light (and I kept the lights on the ceiling fans) - Ceiling fans in all 3 bedrooms - master has a remote control for it. - Roof and gutters replaced in late 2008. Full tear off. - Water heater replaced 2008. - New garage door opener w/ keypad 2008. - Circuit board for furnace replaced late 2007 (not cheap). Ignitor replaced December 2009. Gas furnace w/ digital programmable thermostat. - Over-the-range microwave 2008. - Brand new blinds installed throughout home. - About 1/2 of the light switches / electrical outlets have been replaced and are brand new. Mostly for looks, as I changed over to white where appropriate. - Home ran, quad shield RG6 cable in every room (9 outlets total). CAT5e ran to smallest bedroom, living room, and family room. House is move in ready, and you can move in immediately after closing.
  17. Way too expensive IMO. Optioned the way I'd want it, the thing has an MSRP of over $46,000!
  18. Just because you don't like talk radio and sports doesn't mean there aren't those that do. Actually, there are a LOT of people that do. I use my Sirius a LOT, and 75% of its usage is to listen to Stern, Bubba, comedy stations, plus OSU Football when I can't watch the game. Rest is music. I'm sure Pandora has a great music selection, as does Sirius. So does my MP3 player.
  19. Yes...and revoke the insurance on it, so he can't afford to build another.
  20. What's your address? I can tell you for sure.
  21. Sirius has a lot of exclusive stuff you can't listen to on Pandora.
  22. Without looking at specific specs, I'm pretty sure the Typhoon was quicker. So was the LM002....both sold many years before the 5.9L GC. Cayenne Turbo, GC SRT-8, TBSS, X5 M and X6 M, AMG M-Class, and I'm sure several others are quicker as well.
  23. Geez, wish we used that little of electric. Last months was 5200 kwh Previous was 6400 kwh I hate my electric bill.
  24. Hmmm, car accelerating out of control, or a steering wheel that is a little harder to turn at UNDER 15 MPH. I wonder which one is more dangerous.
