Why's everyone so down on pavers? In the middle term future we will be doing new garage, and probably (definitely) driveway and we'll probably just get walkways done at that point. Our initial thought is permeable pavers, but we haven't done much research.

That was my first thought too, about the b-pillar. If they can do it without a b-pillar/a kind of crash b-pillar integrated into the doors, that would be pretty darn cool. Then put a pano moon roof in the car. Do any of those MBZs have a pano roof option. I've been obsessed with this idea lately, a traditional 'hard top' car with so many windows that open that you can almost have the best of both worlds of a regular car and a convertible. What I really want is a (next gen) 4Runner with a pano roof, with the rear window.

Finally ordered stuff on Friday, already started trickling in and everything should get here through the week. I'm super excited! Finally went with my original plan, but added the velour ear cups BIGGU; so Audio Techinica ATH-M50x, Schiit Vali 2 & Schit Modi. Is there a USB cable that will pull power from 1 port but data from another? I've seen these splitter cables, but am unsure how they actually work. I'm worried the Modi will kill my phone battery during the day.

Definitely picking up a set of these if they keep your ears cooler!

That's amazing you can get magnetic planers, especially ones that are that well reviewed, for $210 now. But, like you said, I'm in a pretty tight cube farm, so anything buy full closed back is a no-go. I do want to own some Maggies at some point in my life, just out of sheer curiosity. Biggu, did you notice those new pads reduced isolation or increased leakage at all? I know I don't need an amp or DAC with the M50s, I kind of just want one. It should sound better anyway, even if the impedance and sensitivity of the phones don't demand it. I'd also like some flexibility for other phones in the future that do need an amp.

I just moved into a new group at work and think I will be sitting at my desk a bit more. I'm thinking about picking up a nice pair of headphones, and maybe an amp & DAC. What's everyone have? I was thinking about getting a Schiit Magni or Vali & Modi for amp & DAC. Maybe the Audio Technica ATH-M50 for the headphones, but I'm worried from what I've read they will be a bit bass heavy for my liking. Maybe if I go this route and do the Vali I can try some other tubes to tune the low end if they are too bass heavy for me.

We are witnessing a technology paradigm shift with streaming/online media. There are going to be a ton of media companies that are gone virtually overnight because they didn't have enough foresight to properly embrace it. It should mean more flexibility for me, the consumer, due to theoretical infinite time shifting. But companies are using it to wall off their content, fragmenting and confusing the experience for the end user. This makes it harder for them to consume the content, which will mean less/b] revue. I see moves like this in the exact same light as the recording industry when online digital music became a thing.

Is it bad that I'm secretly hoping this guy ignored us telling him to get recovery equipment, doesn't get a single thing, but keeps spending money on other upgrades, and gets epic levels of stuck on his first trip out?

So, this is what went through my head when reading this. 'He's talking about the car in the OPs post you... oh, that was a joke. That's pretty funny.' It's Friday and I'm about to leave work, my brain must be going through shutdown mode.
-
The gall of this guy to come back in and not address the giant pink gorilla in the room. Either save face and ignore the thread, meaning don't post, or deal with the issue at hand.

Caveat: I'm no expert off roader.... but I'd start looking into some good recovery equipment. Bubba ropes, or something like them that have a high stretch rate, are f'n awesome. They work really well and are much safer/easier than a static or even low stretch rate rope. Possibly, if you do get a high stretch rate rope, you might also need some lower or static ropes for different situations. Nice air pump, other ropes, shackles (metal and/or rope/synthetic), tree savers, traction mats, shovel, hi lift jack, air bag jacks, basic medical kit, tire repair kit. I think that's generally what I've seen people at work take, put together. I'm sure there are list out there that put it together nicely; what you 'need' for what type of off-roading you are doing, hopefully some have some hierarchy of what to buy first so you're not spending a thousand bucks or more in one shoot on all of this. Does your winch have a synthetic rope or metal? I've heard the synthetic ones are nice, but expensive.

$50 for Washer and only mostly dead Dryer
Trouble Maker replied to Trouble Maker's topic in Other Stuff
Washer is sold. Dryer is free for anyone that wants it, come get it before I put it on the curb for pickers or bulk pickup. -
Has it, or have the rich just continued to get richer? I don't personally see how upper income people making more money and the (narrow index) of the stock market grown, while most of Americas wages are stagnant as a benefit to the economy. IIRC even in the latest reports where it seems like wages have gone up, it was most the 'top' income brackets pulling things up. IMHO, that's not economic growth, that's actually just GINI growth. I'm honestly interested in your opinion on this, because you probably follow this more than I do, and are definitely more knowledgeable in this area.

If you've had good experiences, I don't mean to dissuade you. I'm sure our experience wasn't a normal thing. It's just that I can never go back there in good conscious. But, it never hurts to try new places. The Meridien is also really, really cool; and it's right in the middle of the Short North on High St. It seems like the Leveque hotel is a must try too.
-
Completely agree... but it seems like from their online booking they might somehow be all booked up the weekend of our anniversary. I'll have to give them a call and check.
-
Long story short, they lost our car keys, gave them to someone else who left earlier that morning. Then on top of that the follow through to fix the situation, even after we got our keys back, was really abysmal. Everything was great up until that point, nice place, nice really cool rooms.

Ha, I was going to ask about that one, but forgot to ask in my OP. I was just coming back to edit my post to ask. I don't think it was open last time we stayed downtown. It just opened within about the last year right? Is there as much to do (eat, drink) right around it, or do we have to walk a bit more to get to stuff than for example The Meridien? I mean, maybe we are just talking a few blocks, not a big deal.
-
Our anniversary is over a weekend coming up, and we are going to stay somewhere in town, probably downtown. Since we live in the 'city', it's the only thing that makes sense to me, otherwise we'll just take a lyft/uber somewhere, but we are open to suggestions. Places we've stayed at downtown The Lofts - Never, ever again! Sheraton & Courtyard - Good, nice, normal... perfectly adequate. The Meridien- Really liked it, will probably go here again unless someone comes up with a better suggestion. Any other great places to stay for a special occasion?

$50 for Washer and only mostly dead Dryer

Bump! -
It seems like maybe the Germans in general are on this bandwagon; I've seen it on an MBZ GLC300 and after doing some digging it seems to be on other models of theirs.

Washer works great, Dryer doesn't. Maybe you can fix it? Maybe you can use the parts? It runs and drys great, but the knob won't move, so it won't turn off on it's own, so I'm selling it as 'non-functional'. It also is very loud when running, probably the pulley/tensioner, but that never effected the function of the dryer.
