  1. Have you read, looked into or done the calculations? Just curious about what numbers other are seeing, as a sanity check. Personally, I'm getting 5-10 years, depending on how you spin the numbers, if I buy it and do it myself. So let's say realistically about 7.5 years. Not bad for 'free' electricity for 25+ years. This would be a easy project, relative to other things I've done in the house, so I'll do it myself. The only issue at this point is space on the south facing side of my roof, trees and 24" on center rafters might be a problem; dat old farm house lyfe. Another house near us had the same issue and had to reinforce to install panels, but they were able to do it over the garage area so they had room to work. Anyway, for a few reason, I think we will need to put it on the new garage once we build that in a few years; otherwise we would have already done it.
  2. Has anyone done a good back-to-back actual driving comparison of the Bolt VS the Model 3? Personally, I'd be really surprised if the Bolt is not the better car for the money. Plus, you can actually go buy the Bolt, right now... while the federal tax rebate still exist too. If you are just thinking about the Model 3 now, how long do you think it will realistically be until you can actually get one? In between their production 'delays' and the number of deposits, I'm guessing a few years? If you really want a Tesla, I think you are on the right track with buying a used Model S instead. Prices seem great for what you get, coming from someone who is a fan but I don't think they are worth what they are charging new, compared to other similarly priced cars (this really, realy depends on how you value it being an electric car). Have you thought about solar on your house? I think this is part of the key to making an electric car really make sense from a holistic standpoint.
  3. From someone who doesn't know much about bikes; how in the holly hell did he not high side? Not only did he not high side, but he stopped perfectly and smoothly upright, then very quickly initiated the next turn. I guess it's 'just' like driving a car at limit; correct for what's going to happen?
  4. I got this mower about 5 years ago from Mensan when we moved into our house. Worked great until a few weeks ago, it stopped working, won't start; tried a new plug and starting fluid, no dice. I've been been looking for an excuse to buy a new mower, so I got a new one. This is free to anyone who wants it and thinks they can fix it; probably a relatively easy fix. He gave it to me for free, so I hoped someone on CR could use it, to pass it along. Picture is here!
  5. A good friend of ours works for Capitol Equities so we got to go up to the super soft opening.... HOLLY BALLS that place is amazing. They are going to do retail Tuesday-Thursday evenings, everyone needs to go check it out. I imagine it's going to be a pricey place to do an event at too.
  6. That's per day, not per way; it's only 41 miles each direction. Almost all highway, takes me about 40 minutes. I live in the city and work in the country, so I'm opposite most traffic and hardly every hit any jams. Mostly importantly, I live where I want to live and work where I want to work. The drive is just the 'sacrifice' to do so. I thought we got a smoking good deal on her car, 3 year's old (2013 we got in 2016) and around $15k, but that one is crazy cheap! I don't have any deep specifics, but I did do some research when we got her's and they seemed good. I ready somewhere that GM claims 0 battery replacements due to desegregation; meaning the miles went down enough for someone to say 'this battery needs replaced'. That's coming from the OEM, so, I'd take it with a grain of salt. Over the span of 1st gen cars, the battery size/milage did creep up so that one has a lower mileage on the battery spec since it's the first year. It only went from 35 miles on 2011-12s to 38 miles on the later 2013+ 1st gens, so probably not a big deal with the price. She's loved it as a daily, and the driving I've done with it, errands on the weekend or when we go to friends/family, it's been great. Not by any means a car that should be worth $40~45K new, but a great car for $15k, or would be I think a very, very nice $9k car used daily. The depreciation seems to be pretty steep on these from new, so they seem like a great deal used. We will see the 2nd gens (53 mile range) starting to turn 3 years old in about a year. Will be really interesting to see those prices. If the range was 53 miles, her gas consumption would be significantly close to 0 I think. That would be enough to get me to work, then if work hard chargers, to get me home. I think that part is they key to electric (PHEV) cars 'taking over', if the cars had 30+ mile range on battery and you could plug in anywhere to charge/top off, gas consumption would go down significantly.
  7. Which is crazy, because it's a car you can easily rack up miles on and just charge overnight. Other than the Tesla being nicer, if you are only doing 10kmi/year, something like a Volt makes way more sense because you can still do essentially all of your miles on electric. Me for example, I drive 82mi/day for my commute, I'd get maybe half of my drive on electric with a Volt, because no chargers at work. I put about 16k~20kmi/year on my dail, a Telsa could work for me. My wife only does about 10kmi/year since her work is 11 miles from our house. She drives a Volt and she used 30~40 gallons of gas last year; a vast majority of her miles were on electric.
  8. Who said Geeto didn't have a sense of humor?
  9. Looks great, super clean! To get it very 'tight' do you need to do more than just suspension parts; do you have to do any frame modification, support given it's a fox body (flexy) vert (flexy)?

  11. You could just put one of these in it instated. http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a12483611/this-australian-company-will-sell-you-an-aluminum-v12-ls1/
  12. That color with the gunmetal wheels looks really good, congrats on the new car!
  13. Whatever you do, don't camp at John Bryan, I've shit in cleaner holes I've dug in the ground than the bathrooms at the campground.
  14. A scooner is a sailboat.... Did you have them fill up the cisterns with Mountain Dew before you went?
  15. How about a 4th gen TL Type-SH (3.7L w/AWD and 6MT)? Probably a little hard to find and yeah, I know, everyone hates the beak. But, the car is a ton of fun to drive. I had a new TLX FWD lol for a weekend a few years ago and drove it down to Nashville. IIRC I got 36mpg+ and got over 500 miles per tank. I got from work to home to south of Nashville, some errands, on 1 tank. Then back up to Ostrander, Columbus, then back to work on the 2nd tank and had I think around 140miles of range left. Anyway, I would pick something that get's really good range per tank regardless of what you get. I had a Fit before this and it got like 300mi/tank. It was really annoying filling up every 3-4 days and my commute is only 82mi round trip. I've been getting 400-450/tank in the Civic, it's really nice to be able to go the work week on 1 tank.
  16. Go drive a manual version, it's a really great combo with the manual behind it. Only issue is if you want an gadgets, you can only get the hatch manual in a base or sport. But you were driving the sport so you know what that trim level get's you. I've been driving a 2 door 1.5T MT for about 7 months now and really like it. Company lease car so we don't have them for a long time. EX trim level is the only level for the 1.5T with manual in the 2 and 4 door if you go look at them. I'd buy it out and keep it if I weren't planing on getting the Si next, which I will likely buy out and keep for a few years.
  17. Either looks... eh. I don't love the running boards, I don't love seeing the body down below. I'd remove them later if you get sliders, those look much better and are functional. Let the running boards protect the body for now.
  18. I was thinking something like what notBrian just posted. Some 'cheap' 2 door 4 seater vert. Didn't they make quite a few Saab convertibles? Are soft-top convertibles in the sun, heat and salt down there a terrible idea?
  19. Yeah, I can see how a white couch would be hard to keep clean and need to be cleaned often.
  20. I know nothing about the specific subject, but it seems like there are some alternatives to Pelican boxes out there. If we get test equipment that is loose, we just get Pelican boxes. We just got some new equipment that came in Nanuk cases. No idea on cost compared to Pelican, probably still pricey is my guess. Haven't had a ton of experience with them yet, but from the little I've handled them they seem nice. The latches are much lower effort but still seem very effective; maybe even more secure than what's on the Pelican boxes. https://www.nanuk.com/
  21. One of my coworker buddies is coming over from Japan in a little over a week. He asked if we might be able to find this somewhere in the US. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/302174721339 He got a 70 series and got that roof console for it and wants to get the switch panel for the 'radio' slot. https://www.4wdinteriors.com/products/roof-console Any ideas on where to find it, or will he have to order it from Australia?
  22. I usually set it to 79, which is actually 78 per a few GPS apps.... but I'm doing 78 indicated now so I'm less likely to get another ticket. I had it set to 79, I think I must have rested my foot on the accel pedal a little bit and not noticed I increased a few mph. I can't find a comfortable place for my foot in any other position in this car. Started using it the day after I got the ticket.
  23. They must be cracking down in general, or maybe specifically on 33. I just got a ticket for 80 in a 70 on 33 between Columbus & Marysville. I think that's my first speeding ticket commuting on that stretch of road for 12 years.
