  1. I just got back its like 12:30 am, I might post up some photos or I might go to bed. Guess we'll see. Wife went to and took some photos too. I found out tonight that the 5Dmk2 is completely comfortable in the night urban setting compared to the 40D being at its limit when doing hand held work. As for the trip, we parked at High and State ST's. and walked down to see what was going on at the new park (where the mall was), looked like a mess, but they had live music so we walked down to Scioto Park and back up to City Hall from there. Very nice night with lots of families and couples out enjoying the evening. We gotta get a CR Photog crew together and do downtown soon. The night time presented lots of possibilities for seeing things like we don't normally see them, ie interesting light and shadows. Hopefully I was able to get a few cool images, its very hard to tell on the rear display if your idea will pan out in larger form, especially when its stuff outside your comfort zone. Sure is fun though;-)
  2. I've been busy with my truck and now its wedding season so I've been busy shooting and editing. I like the "city hall" idea and I'm planning to head downtown for some photos later.
  3. Wife went to amish country with her sister, I almost drove my duece down, but decided it was going to be too hot so instead I did things around my yard including pulling down a tree for cooking hot dogs this weekend.
  4. I don't think it will run on those but I'd try it with the weak ones. Gotta keep the good one for mousing if we get a nice food supply. Or if things get bad I can always whip up some "cat die yong."
  5. Thats where my duece and a half comes in handy. Though fueling it is a bit of a problem. It will run on about anything you can put in the tank but at 300 miles per 50 gallons it's a thirsty beast.
  6. I watch 80's movies all the time and besides the obvious low tech problem they are much better movies than the crap that gets made now.
  7. I'm in the "sneak up and kill a prepper" group as well.
  8. To people in the know FB is doing exactly what it was expected to do.
  9. Thats a pretty heavy item so LTL on a pallet would be the standard method of shipping. I wouldn't be surprised if it also required delivery to a business with a dock or special arrangements for a lift gate truck. I'm no expert, but I did work for a company as the shipping guy for awhile and we didn't typically ship larger than 70lbs through UPS or the others, those items got strapped to a pallet. We shipped mower engines so also small heavy boxes.
  10. Sounds like they are hoping you won't get a lawyer and are just bullying.
  11. Might try handleonthelaw.com Its got attorney recommendations on it for lots of legal needs. Would be interesting to hear more about your case. Sounds like a previous employer is trying to get back what they paid you in unemployment benefits??? Kind of odd and I don't see how they could considering how the system works. 1) You lose your job 2) you apply for benefits 3) job and family services (unemployment dept) investigates your claim 4) your approved/denied benefits 5) case closed I could understand fighting for benefits, but I don't think they have much of a case if the state of ohio determined that you were eligible. Lawyering up would probably make them go away.
  12. You don't really appreciate what a RAW file can do until you start taking astro photos and try processing a JPEG vs RAW files. The type of processes required to get detail out of the image really finds the limit of a JPEG fast and a RAW can be taken way beyond them.
  13. One thing I hate to see is uncle bob's photos. You can check out my site at http://www.photographybyevan.com Now anyone can DJ;-)
  14. Pretty much do what I want with it and a little of everything. I plan to add lockers to all three axles, 46" tires, and at least one electric winch. I will take it on trails but only with at least another large rig incase I need a tow.
  15. I got my windshield glass back from a shop and installed it. Trucks pretty much fixed as far as rust and paint goes. Now just little PM things and other projects around my yard in the coming days.
  16. I work in coshocton and muskingum counties a lot and if I do end up needing a map I have a map of Ohio preloaded on another app called MapDroid. It gets me where I need to go if I have to use it. I also use it for trail riding in Southern, OH. In most cases though once you've set the destination address google maps will cache the route and get you there just fine. Another really awesome advantage to google maps is the satellite photos. I use it a few times per month to find some address that I can't figure out how to get to, ie a Kokosing construction trailer hidden hundreds of yards off a road and in trees. Very useful.
  17. Android + Google Earth > stand alone GPS.
  18. I have this problem as well. I wake up feeling like crap every day, go the whole day barely awake, get to about 7pm and start to feel better and by 10pm I'm rev'ed up and ready to climb a mountain or do some serious thinking. I've been this way forever, and I constantly get in bed only to be up again in 30min writing down the answer to a problem I've been working on. Oh and now I have the shadow children problem as well. Fun times.
  19. Very interesting Doc. Several times per week my wife falls asleep on the couch while watching something on TV, I come into the room and make some type of noise, ie put down a cup and she jumps up eyes wide open and in terror looking at me or sometimes not really noticing me, but still in terror. She seems to be thinking someone is there and has done it her whole life according to her family. I figured she's just nuts, but now maybe not so much. I never really thought to ask if she knows what she's seeing, I'll have to try next time.
  20. I picked up a cheap cable on amazon for 25 bucks that hooks to my laptop and does what your wanting. Can't remember brand now I'm out on the road.
  21. I think the SLR body size is kinda necessary to allow for proper ergonomics and button placement. A pro camera is a tool and you wouldn't want that tool losing control via moving things into menus like the smaller cameras do. You need to be able to hit buttons and dials on the fly as conditions change.
  22. Painted the hood, side hoods, and fenders today. Just did a quick job of it with a paint roller. Friday evening I tracked down a short in the turn signal circuit and repaired it.
  23. If I'm wrong sorry, but this is something that has been debated at least since my car audio days back in the mid `90's and I'm sure earlier than that. I used 1200 or 2400 strand 1 or 2 gauge (can't remember, don't feel like looking) high copper cable and it does carry a load better than welding cable. If this isn't correct then I guess all the top tier car audio competitors have been doing it wrong for decades and could have saved a lot of money using welding cable. Don't really want to derail a nice thread and the welding cable vs copper cable horse has been beaten a long time. I guess you could have welding cable made of the same material if thats possible and also same gauge, then it would perform the same.
  24. I'm not running gas, just a simple SMAW (stick welder) process. I used audio cable for easier routing from the alternator through the engine bay to a welding cable quick connect port where I attach a pair of cables. The audio cable also carries current far better than welding cable. The 70amp alternator is plenty as far as size goes. You could run a much larger one such as the 140amp caddy alternator that I use for 12v generation, but that requires much more modification of the alternators circuits to handle the load. They weren't designed to be used as welders and have more complex circuits than the old style 70amp models. The model is actually very easy, you simply remove the regulator and ground out the Vref signal so that it outputs full power all the time. The larger models would require diodes that can handle 100-200amps or more so thats also a major problem, but I know of at least one guy who's done it.
  25. I've had a alternator/welder set up on my offroad truck for years. It works great. Its a constant 70amps, but you control the output voltage by adjusted the RPMS. At about 2500rpms I get 110volts and can run large power tools. I've got many hours on mine with no issues. I'm actually planning to build a TIG welder rig to attach to the PTO of my tractor soon. Might also incorporate an air compressor, I'm still in the design/thinking stages. The lower alternator in this photo is the welder, I've since upgraded the upper alternator to a 140amp unit. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f185/EWhytsell/PC180115.jpg
