If I'm getting an ex-cop car, I want a NYPD "Rumbler" system to go with it. Those things work!

Looks like the mules are running in broad daylight.
IMO, losing the FR-layout to the Corvette (according to the article) is a McSteak. The rear hatch area is what makes a Corvette such a great Grand Touring option as well. Lose the cargo capacity and you lose a lot of the car's versatility, especially in modern C5-C6-C7 platforms.

I'm looking to get under the Lincoln mostly to do measurements of ride height (so I can cut the cup brackets and set air-spring height) before installation, and running/securing/installing the air bags and DOT air lines to each corner.
Has anyone made and used these "wood cribs" as wheel stands for lifting up their car? Any horror stories? I would still have jackstands and a jack available for safety, but I'd like to mimic the static ride height of the Lincoln accurately above-ground without needing a lift.
That is a HORRIFYING story. I truly mourn for the family.
Sorry for their loss and your family's grief, Tim.
It's been said and worth mentioning: hearing about the senseless loss of innocent children has definitely been the source of most of my heartbreak as a parent these days.
Guess what? I read Doug's latest article about the manual F-Type?
http://jalopnik.com/the-manual-v6-jaguar-f-type-is-way-better-than-the-auto-1782807269
I liked it! It reminded me about my F-Type test drive in Naples last year, and how ridic the "sport" exhaust setting was. I appreciated that he poked fun at himself. His comments were a little funny, but the description of the car and his experience was well done.
Maybe he's not such a cawkmunch. I still couldn't stand his recent video on YouTube...
Very cool! Love the R8. I was thinking a way more plebian offering...
Good luck. I'm now 100% with you...wouldn't want to remove a rear fascia and risk scratches/mis-alignment on my OWN car, let alone someone elses.
Sounds like you'll want to buy a 5g-6g Mustang with aftermarket exhaust already installed.
Bob, make sure you sweep your garage floor before you do the exhaust yourself, to keep your back clean. :gabe:
Just busting your chops. You mentioned possibly removing a bumper.
I've been wrenching for friends this spring/summer in the evenings after my family is settled, because of the following shop quotes:
- 2002 VW Eurovan rusted exhaust - $1000 (Rockauto kit was $172)
- 2007 Odyssey - rear wheel bearings - $800 (RA was $120 for Chinese bearings, van has 172k miles and is getting traded in next year)
- 2007 Odyssey - front struts, rear shocks - $1000 (RA was $240 for front/rear)
- 2006 Tacoma - $230 to install step-side bars
- 1998 Merc E320 - alternator/belt/tensioner - $1200 (RA was $300)
- 2004 Silverado - Starter/filters/belts/oil change - $460 (RA was $120)
The quotes I turned away recently:
$1700 for A/C compressor/recharge - I don't have the equipment.
$3500 for a rebuilt transmission R&I - Couldn't easily source a trans.
So yes, we have some great shops/people close to CR. The rest of society - especially around higher-end neighborhoods (unsurprisingly) - frequently gets reamed for repair work.
Be Bob: too big-time to work on cars, balk at $800 bill for custom exhaust work.
I understand where you're coming from, dawg...I see the point where I'm over wrenching (2 kids, career, side businesses, civic activities), but I'm just not there myself yet.
I don't understand why people pay more for a $500 insurance deductible...if you're not planning on using it unless the claim is more. You're wasting your money.
You won't file a claim unless the damage is around $1,000?
You don't have a lot of out-of-pocket money if there's an accident? Maybe you can squeeze together $250?
Guess what? There's your deductible.

If you know how cheap I am, you'll appreciate the gravity of my words when I say - for a four-door - this car almost brings tears to my eyes with how beautiful it is.
I know it's $100k for a 2.9L V6 with an automatic, but the performance numbers and that styling... I'm in love.
I'm loving this thing, but I hate the grille and fake-as-hell side gills that do nothing.
I am curious what the Hobbs time on the engine is....that's a good point brought up before.
I realize this is the holy grail of car guys, but with my Lincoln going under the knife to install full air-ride suspension, I'm realizing it would be awesome to have a lift to get side/under access a lot easier.
Anyone that has access - or knows where to get it - of a portable car lift that could PM me, I would greatly appreciate it.
I will say that AirSlamIt (which operates several eBay profiles including "wheelsnparts" where I got my schtuff) has been very good to work with. "Edgar" in the sales department has always been good to respond within a day of my messaging.
I sent him the pics above and they may be filing a damaged shipment claim with UPS. Still waiting to hear if I should even open the box to see if stuff is damaged or not...
EDIT: Edgar came through. "You can open the box and check the product, we try to stay on top of our shipping guys about that. I will make sure they see how the box arrived."
Maybe if they packed it in a bigger box with something more solid than pubic hairs for packing material!
Just from the rim pictured in the CL ad there's a huge dent on the left side just below center.
BOx came! I thought it would be bigger....and not damaged. LOL
