  1. All valid points brought up in this thread. I am also inclined to look more towards the income inequality having more of an effect on racial tensions: if you travel around the state like I do, there is far more NEW examples of poverty and government-assistance need/abuse in rural white America in 2015 than black America these days. Look at the opoid/meth/heroin abuse...was a problem for generations in the black community, when there was a "War on Drugs". Now that it's a white problem (even in the suburbs), we preach tolerance, understanding, and treatment. Larger picture, the problem is even more rooted in our society and how we treat each other: "fake it til ya make it" on social media has more of a value than face-to-face relationships, hard work, and personal success/satisfaction (however that's measured!). As a father, my thoughts go out to his family and friends for their loss, not how the rest of the world reacts to a senseless death.
  2. Congrats! That is a nicely-styled car, and no one can bish when it's a stick-shift. Can you possibly put some center caps on those wheels? Many happy (and safe!) miles to you.
  3. http://www.autoblog.com/2016/02/09/question-of-the-day-small-pickup/ Chicken Tax? $heeeeit...if a company sold a new small pickup truck with an 8ft bed in kit form (from bumper-to-bumper, including engine and transmission) I'd be interested in buying it and building it myself. Too bad Federal emissions and collision requirements make that sort of prospect cost-prohibitive.
  4. He didn't see where you said "THE last year..." You didn't miss a sale...he wouldn't have bought one anyway. I hear you on the Ranger demographic: my uncle was a 30+ year, upper-management retiree from BellSouth in Atlanta. Made a great living, $2MM lake house...and the dude replaced his DD '85 GMC S-15 with a 2WD Ranger in 2009ish. Still rocks it today. No need for that Southern Gentleman to rock a BMW 7-series on lease...
  5. I chuckled. Lady Gaga did a great job with the Star Spangled Banner...the rest of that Tecmo Bowl was spot on. Somebody was up late working on that.
  6. Just because it wasn't produced commercially...doesn't mean private interests or military contractors haven't bought use of it. :gabe:
  7. I've been taking my junk (CTS-V, Lincoln, tee-ruk) to Noebull Automotive on Kenny and Henderson. The dude running the front of the shop is named David. Tell her to say that Clay sent her. You guys know how cheap I am...they've done great work, and told me when there is something they just can't do (like...oh, maybe...align an old lowered tee-ruk with cut coil springs ) They will definitely treat her fair. No shit - if they don't, I'll call and bitch them out. I've already sent a couple of UA parent-friends there and they've been very complimentary. Northend Wrench still does the BMW.
  8. I think Tavarish got the story sans details from the 20-something builder, and ran with the article idea.
  9. Sshhh, Chandler....he's trying to put the bullet back in the barrel of his gun. Let's watch...
  10. Fair enough. I advocated for a supercharger and my recommendation still stands. What was your recommendation to the OP's question, Aaron? Oh, you were just trolling me. Way to contribute.
  11. I can't believe the dichotomy: later-model 928S or 928 GTS approaches $75k....pretty much the SAME body/chassis in a 10-year-older configuration (with understandably more wear)can be had for less than 1/10th of that price. http://www.renegadehybrids.com/928/928.html
  12. Not with the cost of 928's in the 4-figure range. THIS WOULD'VE BEEN CHEAPER BWAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!1!!11 Be Clay: Push career to the top, push used-car value to the bottom dollar.
  13. Is the GT86 new? Nope. Did you put a chunk of change in the Golf and still throw it away anyway? Yep. Did you forget this is the intarbutts? I believe I just reminded you of that (assuming you're smart enough to notice).
  14. I had to do the same thing on my BMW E36. Crazy how that snout/impeller in the block has a pretty tight tolerance!
  15. http://thegarage.jalopnik.com/this-insane-porsche-928-will-make-purists-crap-their-kh-1757871189 Holy sh**...there's so much win in this build it's amazing. I absolutely love how the 928 looks with a flat paint job....hadn't seen it before. It's builds like this - that add amazing new life to tired old cars in a truly unique way - that really speak to me as a wanna-be hot-rodder living in 2016.
  16. Just confirmed with a CC&C buddy who manages the Chipotle in Grandview: It is indeed legit. Free Sofritas burrito...here I come! Thanks for the heads-up, Matt!
  17. I moved my toolbox out of the garage to work on the Lincoln in the driveway yesterday. Knocked over my snow shovel. Was all like "Oh yeah...I've yet to use that this year."
  18. BR-Zed = 2758lbs, 242RWHP for Edelbrock E-Force kit: 11.39lbs/hp CTS-V = 3850lbs, 373RWHP N/A w/Magnaflow exhaust: 10.32lbs/hp If you want, I can throw an extra $6k on a bolt-on supercharger, just to keep it fair since my CTS-V was cheaper than a BRRRRZ... CTS-V = 4100lbs, 496RWHP Edelbrock E-Force + Exhaust: 8.26lbs/hp I'm sure this guy wants to pay more to add BHP to his Toyota Schwinn so it parks harder while he's working inside all day... http://media.giphy.com/media/ToMjGpKRpvezPEjVyAo/giphy.gif Be Aaron: spend $$$$$ for a tuned Golf, trade it all in on a V8 to have more fun in life. Chandler agrees.
  19. Stopped snowing downtown. Wet ground absorbing the fallen snow.
  20. What company told him to buy a turbo? I agree with Derek. If he's not the best shadetree mechanic a bolt-on supercharger means he never has to mess with the exhaust or the engine's oiling system, and gets a driveable car immediately after install. Just seems like $5k+ is a lot of money to pay for not even having 300RWHP in the end.
  21. Drove my tee-ruk with Winterforce tires this morning, fearing the rain would turn icy. Looks like that was a wise move!
  22. I like the Porsche strategy, but my "problem" is I use part of an old Rollover IRA to play in the stock market - my cash holdings can't be liquidated for play toys. Gonna let the next day or so pan out, especially with the dip in oil and tech continuing...
  23. Would love to go but I've got plans the evening of 3/11. THANK YOU for putting something like this together! That's very cool and I would love to be there.
  24. Alrighty...we've been staring at the numbers dropping, and we all know there is room for it to dive further. Curious what people have been looking at. I've got about $5k to park-n-ride for the next couple of years if need be. WMS - I bought Advanced Drainage last week at 21.xx and watching that puppy slide. So much for supporting a local company. Down 16% this week THX OBMA CHK - I have a buy in for 2k CHK @ $1.75 Day. I don't think it's going to hit but the thought of either a buyout or eventual return to profitability is too intriguing for me not to lowball a limit order. USO - When there's blood in the streets, buy land??? BDCL - I have a nice holding in this ETF and while it's been down pretty big since last year, it still sloughs off a great dividend. Thinking about DCA'ing some more money in it since it's near a 52-week low. AA - I've kept an eye on Alcoa as a nice core industrial stock w/dividend. Below $8.xx a share seems nice. Furthermore, anyone looking at ETF's to ride out the storm? I'm looking at dividend, industrials...
