  1. My family and I have been enjoying our '75 Dodge RV, had a beautiful weekend at Dillon State Park a few days ago. One more campout and then it'll be time to winterize. Any old school Mopar guys familar with the Chrysler LA 360 engine? It's been rebuilt before but at just over 100k miles there is an oil leak that's coming from the front of the engine. It has a significant drip when it's sitting, and driving it long distances will actually "consume" (lose) a good amount of oil. I just keep it topped off but long term it would be nice not to leave a dinner-plate-sized oil spill pattern everywhere. I would love for someone to check it out, or I can drive it somewhere. No rush on this, but if any of you guys have 360 LA experience please let me know. Offhand, it looks to me like the timing chain cover or front of the oil pan gasket? The top of the engine, exhaust, and belt drives are good and dry (slight valve cover weep) but the block is oily wet and it drips on the steering/sway bar/suspension pieces below.
  2. I will say I have both SAE and Metric impact sockets from HF, and I use the SHIT out of them: https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-drive-metric-impact-deep-socket-set-13-pc-69561.html They've never broken, rounded off a nut, etc and I've had them at the end of 750lb impact force, dropped them, hit'em... I ask the topic question because I agree with Scott: it seems like HF (some if not many of their main tools) has indeed gotten a lot better.
  3. So I got the coils today. Pulled the sparkplugs. Autolite Iridiums were gapped to .045...I gapped them to .030". Put the new coils back on. Fired it up, warmed it up and ran around my neighborhood. Runs better than ever. Cleaned MAF means no CEL and the boost is flowing strongly and without surging like before...used to feel like a vacuum leak. Trans shifts great, everything is working amazingly. Pull down Henderson onto Olentangy River Road. Floor it and the thing is easily the fastest car I've owned, possibly down a bit to my CTS-V but with AWD and no-lift shifts it just freight trains...goes up to 80 in no time. slow down to 40 and do a 40-80 pull. I'm really, really happy with the way it goes. My son was super excited, said it reminded him of the Audi R8 we drove on his birthday. High praise for a $900 Volvo. Looking forward to NTR next week! Yes...was thinking of that first drive with you. You should ride in it now...the boost and the misfire made it feel awful compared to how it's running now. I'm excited because I realized I still am running through the factory cat. Need to cat-delete it ASAP since the tune is set up for it...should free up some more power!!
  4. With all the YT car content I watch, there are a few guys hyping up these tool companies sponsoring their videos. I'm assuming the tools are made overseas and assembled in kits here in the USA. https://sonictoolsusa.com/shop/sonic-foam-system https://tengtoolsusa.com/ I use HF for throwaway tools, but my Craftsman sockets and wrenches are getting a little banged up after 15+ years. Has anyone used any of these new-name tools, aside from Matco, Snap-On, etc? Moreover, will Lowes still honor the lifetime warranty on Craftsman? I broke a universal joint for my socket set and went to Nutter Hardware: they will not honor Craftsman replacements unless you bought from them.
  5. I was wondering what makes their "new urbanism" model different, so I googled the Evans Farm website. I didn't realize the "MARKETPLACE" part of the development has yet to be built out. Still located in a nice part of Lewis Center, but with COVID I question how many small businesses they'll be able to attract. Retail was devastated by quarantine. Hopefully people really will be walking/biking locally to these little shops once things return to the next normal. I can tell you I'm not driving much because Instacart. It's slightly more expensive at certain retailers but having people shop/drop-off food for me is the best.
  6. Stock HP/TQ is 205/250...hoping with Stage 2 and cat-delete it'll go to 250-270HP and 300-310TQ. I really have no idea on 1/4 times...low 14s would be great. I think the factory is mid-15s. If I can replace the cat with a straight pipe this weekend and get 13.8-14.2 I'd be happy. This is still a 3600-3700lb sedan so my expectations are measured.
  7. Sorry Aaron - didn't see your response. The S60R seems to be it's own animal (adjustable 4c suspension, different engine, interior, body bits) so I wouldn't be surprised if the rear-diff DEM is also different. Quick update: I ended up buying a DiCE cable from a China supplier, uOBDII.com or some shit like that. Ryan (unfunnyryan) here on CR was AWESOME in letting me use an old Lenovo laptop and setting it up. I thought I would need it for the DEM (with VIDA to communicate with the Volvo's systems) but just plugging in the DEM fixed the AWD system. However... since I already had the DiCE cable and laptop :ninja: https://hiltontuning.com/ I bought a Stage 2 tune from Hilton Tuning...and promptly discovered a few weaknesses on the car. The download of the tune and reflash was very easy. However, the boost was maaad inconsistent, and I found that an ignition coil died causing a cylinder misfire. Replaced that, and still had a P0101 MAF CEL. Pulled the MAF out and noticed flakes of an old leaf??? in the mesh. Cleaned it out and sprayed MAF cleaner and it seems much better...except that another ignition coil misfired. So I'm just replacing the last 3 out of 5 ignition coils I haven't yet replaced. This isn't unheard of, as 15 years and 114k miles sounds like the max life for these coil packs. Rob Hilton @ Hilton Tuning has been great. They legit just use FB Messenger to communicate with clients, and their tuning software downloaded on my laptop allows for data logging that he can track. While I'm waiting for ignition coils this week, Rob reminded me to gap the plugs to .028". Having someone communicate with the Volvo knowledge they have is huge. Looking forward to National Trail next Wednesday for T&T. :fuckyeah: If the ignition coils and cleaned MAF smooth everything out, next (last) performance mod will be to delete the catalytic converter. I paid for the "cat-delete" option with the tune to not trigger a CEL. The reduced backpressure supposedly improves turbo response and maximizes the power from the Stage 2 tune.
  8. Thanks, guys. Apparently the radiator was replaced last year?? I've given owners' info to someone on CR so will see what happens. Yes! I'll update the Volvo thread.
  9. I'm talking about what he's written, not acted in.
  10. I remember Seth Rogan being interviewed by Howard Stern, and the whole premise of this show could take it in a million different dark directions. I love Karl Urban's character. Even Jack Quaid is good as a hapless loner that is getting swept up in the action. Homelander freaks me out the most: the fact that he has all the powers he does, truly believes in what he represents despite often not having a clue on how the world works or Vought functions, wears the f**king suit all the time.....he's a nuclear bomb waiting to go off. Amazon. It's a Seth Rogan show (Pineapple Express, Sausage Party)...super heroes living amongst us with a handful of them being PR'd to death by a megacorp. It gets darker the more time you give for character development.
  11. Thanks, guys. I spoke to the ranch owner and she was doing her friend a favor by keeping it on their lot. I'll keep an eye on it; if it doesn't sell soon enough I'll see if she takes my offer. Need to get a few other projects done anyway before I can deal with this 4Runner.
  12. Meh...spoke (text?) with the owner. She's holding out for an "enthusiast like myself to want to take the bits and use it for another 4Runner". I hope our friend with the farm is charging her a storage fee while she takes her sweet time. I couldn't find it for sale online?? I'm backing away from this one for now. Thanks, CR!
  13. I'm no scientist....but if the surface of Venus is over 800*F and the swirling vapor cloud atmosphere is highly acidic, it's reasonable to assume that some pretty interesting molecular compounds can be created. I've been saying since the Pope came out in the '90s with a Catholic church-backed stance that extra-terrestrial belief goes in line with a Biblical view of the Universe - that life can be on every planet/moon where the ingredients to support it exist. Whether that life is INTELLIGENT is another story. Amoeba living on Europa doesn't mean we can stop by in a spaceship - or shoot radio signals there and expect a response - to learn advanced knowledge from them.
  14. My daughter goes to a friend's farm for horse-riding lessons, and with COVID even spends the whole day there on occasion, doing Zoom schooling and helping the family that runs it with chores. For a suburbanite, it's been a really nice dose of responsibility for her. As I drive her there and back in the morning last week, I've noticed a 2002 4Runner in their gravel lot with a flat tire. Asking the wife what's up with it, she said it's a horse boarders' car and she's done with it. It was overheating and she wanted to get rid of it. I threw out a lowball offer (scrap) and the owner is considering it. I need another vehicle - let alone a project - like I need a hole in the head. However, the owner is done, our friend wants it off her farm, and maybe I can make some money? Pros: - 2002 4Runner. Overlanders galore will love this thing, like the 4WD Supra it is - Rebuilt transmission last year. Less than 5k on the thing. - Almost no rust on the frame. Body as well except for some spots in the rear bumper. - Limited model, so fully loaded, plus leather interior and wood trim. - Lift kit - Lots of other newer parts, like exhaust and brakes. - Has a massive tow hitch? Towing package for this thing? Cons...here we go: - 238K MILES oof - Overheats. I don't know what's going on yet but the radiator is decently full and not milkshakey. - Drivers' window jumped the track, has been open. It's rained a few times over the last few weeks. - Interior is deeeeeeesgusting. Dog hair everywhere, dirty from not being cleaned in years. No hoarder clutter/trash, but just well-used. It fires right up, sounds great and shifts into D and R quickly. Will be picking it up once the owner schedules time. My goal is to quickly flip it or scrap it. I really don't want to keep it. 1) Would anyone be interested in this thing for $750? 2) I know I could at least get $50-100 for the catalytic converters. Anyone know a good way to part out components, like eBay or any 4Runner forums? 3) Where is a good place to scrap a whole vehicle? Any idea what prices are these days? I've taken metal to Research Alloys at their new Hilltop location but haven't scrapped a whole car in over 15 years.
  15. Clever writing: they had me thoroughly hating Stormfront until Ep.3 (2? I was watching last night and cannot remember which episode it was), and now she's a bad bish in my mind. Looking forward to getting through Ep.4 this week.
  16. What I've learned after buying my RoadKing is that Dodge 3/4T and 1T (B200 and B300 chassis codes, respectively) underpinned a huge crop of new Class A and Class C motorhomes in the '70s. This beast is no exception, but gaddamn is it ugly. Another fun fact: The grilles on these Dodges are worth a pretty penny now for good examples ($200-500). The earlier '70s were stamped metal and the later '70s like mine were plastic...that is falling apart now. Rest of the thing has been solid, and I consider my investment paid off after over 3k miles of trips since June. That's an important lesson on older RVs: $17,500 is a crackhead price. These old machines are simple to work on, but unless you have extensive maintenance records or are talking the old man that owned it most of its life the online research for specific RVs is dicey, given pre-internet. Buy a good one with good history for the right price: you'll still be replacing parts, but if the initial purchase price is low it won't hurt. A neighbor bought a 2018 Forest River camper trailer a month after I got my RV. Had to replace his Tundra with a Cummins RAM ($$$$) and the first trip to TN, a China-bomb cheap tire blew on the trailer, sending tread through the guard into the camper, knocking the propane furnace out into the cabin. It may need to be totaled. He replaced the tire with an unused spare, and just outside of Stringtown Rd on I-71 the spare blew. I'm happier with an older machine I can fix stuff on that's not made like shit.
  17. I understand I'm not hauling racecar-on-trailer so I appreciate I don't have to load up on capabilities from my teeruk. 4-wheel discs still haul trailers well enough. Longbed Crew REPRESENT!
  18. Also loved the first season. Last couple of episodes were trippy. I've been really busy the last couple of weeks with family/work/car projects. Started "Away" on Netflix every night until I fall asleep and it's taking me awhile. Will get back to The Boys soon.
  19. Same as these guys above: we tiled the only bathroom in our starter home back in 2003 with cement board screwed into our 1953 subfloor, then tiled/grout over top. I can't remember the details but a close friend who does renos/flips helped me with the steps. Then a metal transition strip to the wood floor in the hallway. 17 years later the house is our rental and still holding up well.
  20. Congratulations, JP! I asked my son if he wanted to go find you, but I have to admit I was still a little COVID-shy, and after a couple of rows of show cars we were both ready to leave. We woke up really early for the 555 run and I didn’t plan for IFO (no hat/sunblock, no Food/water and didn’t want to wait in line). After I get the Volvo tuned with the Hilton Stage 2 I just got, I’m going to take my son to a Test and Tune to try some drag racing.
  21. The good shops will probably be backed up, but I start any repair with going to Northend Wrench north of Cooke Rd on Indianola, south of Morse. Sean (Crossle) is on the board here.
