  1. On my way into work today, there was a group of people with large signs of "Impeach Biden" by the 270 on ramp. No surprise there, given the current shit show... :(

I pissed off my wife's friends when I reminded them that Trump pulled most of the troops out last year, ALONG with releasing 5,000 Taliban fighters. Facts hurt if you're spoon-fed your arguments from FB memes.

I genuinely feel that Biden's doing as good of a job as he can (but I cannot stand Kamala). I just wish we weren't so polarized politically. We're our own worst enemy in a world increasingly against us.

  2. My '8 Solstice GXP was not great ergonomically; it was cramped, window sills were too high, and uncomfortable seat position. It also needed more gear in its manual transmission (5-speed in the world of 6-speed sports cars). It had a GM Stage 2 turbo upgrade that allows for a higher boost level.

Other aspects are great. The Corvette-like chassis and suspension constructions are very nice and those are the main points to me. The clamshell hood is heavy and it probably should have been made from a lighter material.

I made mine to attract attention with minimal mods, yet I wanted it to have increased engine performance and suspension characteristics. I miss it sometimes and while looking for a salt car, I now include it in my search.

I'm sure we're all looking at $5-$10k fun cars all the time :) and I see a few chewy Solstices up in that range.

It's just tough to not go either Miata or even a C5 Corvette (if you stretch the budget a bit) at that point.

  3. Agreed with the others, Doc - thanks for sharing in such a professional manner!

Though I grew up in Cleveland and felt like I knew a bit about the Great Lakes, I have a new-found appreciation for Michigan from friends who vacation/camp along the amazing coasts. Your pics are amazing and show the rich and well-preserved history of those areas.

As I get older, I appreciate these destinations and hope I can get out there...need a fun car first! :) Thanks again for keeping CR in the loop on your Rally adventures.

  4. Curious about the outcome as well here.

Reading through the comments and reflecting on my own life, I remember driving out of the student lot in high school (styling, profiling as everyone was filing out and saying hi to each other as we all left) and my friend backed into my Samurai with his Olds Achieva.

Insurance quoted $800 for the repair, this was in 1996. There was the smallest scratch on the bodywork but definitely not needing that much paint repair. My friend obviously felt bad about the low-speed crunch and said he’d pay to repair it... but balked at that price as it was just a bent rear bumper and broken taillight.

I was able to source all the parts during the early days of the internet, as well as some touch up paint, for a couple hundred bucks. He happily paid that much and we repaired the damage ourselves. He and I talked about that all the way through college and it ended up being a much better experience for both of us: he still had to pay but learned a bit about car work by helping me, and aside from a tiny break in the paint I got a new rear bumper and parts for free and kept my Samurai looking great, while helping my friend out of a sticky situation.

I think a reasonable measure of showing responsibility is to make your child pay for the damages to her car. She may think twice about a drag race and how much she’s willing to put herself and her car on the line after an expensive lesson before.

  5. I was at Craft Sports last week in Naples, ‘mirin the JDM goodness and talking with the gen manager. He said that the owner was looking for a US location and quickly ruled out California after seeing the regs and business hurdles he would have to jump through, ended up setting up shop in FL.

I personally don’t have a problem with the politics in CA...but I can certainly appreciate reading the tea leaves to see where a state can start going increasingly anti-Motorsports. Disappointing to assign so much blame on different Industries when the real and current problems come from overseas countries.

  6.

Side note...was at Higgins Lake, MI camping and the Spartans/Mich rivalry is almost as bad as OSU and TTUN. Surprised me. Literally, kids on bikes at the state campground biking by a MichSt. flag on a camper yelling "Loser State" and "Spartans suck" with the folks by a campfire just laughing.

  7. BWAAA that guy hit me up when I was selling my turbine wheels. Looks like he got a much nicer one next door.

Here's the thing because i keep looking at Lincolns on FBM...there are ALWAYS some really nice 70s/80s Lincs for sub $5k. Like, sub-60k miles, paint-all-matches, no-rust Town Cars and Continentals. This thing is criminally overpriced for a cut-spring ghetto roller.

  8. Guys, I've been working for BofA for the last 7 years and it's been the best part of my career so far. I do find it to be a great organization.

Proud to say we're building branches/Financial Centers in Cols, CLE and Cincy quickly, and I think starting pay is $25/hr. If anyone knows of someone looking to get in the financial services sector, this is a great time to get in as BofA is growing.

careers.bankofamerica.com and check out some of the listings for you, your friends or family. If anyone is interested, just send me the specific posting and give me a name and email address, and I'll forward it along.

Crazy times in our economy so trying to help my corp, as well as some of my teammates who are looking for good peeps to fill these new jerbs.

  9. It's the anti vehicle mentality in most places...

Columbus used to allow parking on "an improved surface" that included gravel. That was my plan when I built my new garage for an RV storage spot, but no more! Now it must be a "hard surface" (paved) and you need to file a "site plan" (and pay $90 for the "privilege").

The City Compliance Officer specifically told me that UA is trying to avoid a “country aesthetic” with their city ordinances.

I know other suburbs have it as bad or worse...obviously it just stings when the regs are directed at you...

  10. Country CR folks...here's a chance for you to add a long-term monthly stream of income. :)

I will provide a CR update on the rebuild "adventure" of my RV, but I am unfortunately losing my battle with the City of Upper Arlington to keep the RV on my property without extensive/EXPENSIVE changes to my "buildable" property for a pad for it in the future.

If anyone knows of a minimum 9'x20' open-lot or enclosed space, I'm willing to spend $50+ a month starting in the fall. Self-Storage places inside 270 simply don't have any spaces available for rent right now.

Feel free to PM me anytime and thanks!

  11. Great little updates.

Engine Masters on MotorTrend did a few exhaust mods, and going Y into exhaust piping sized for the engine volume displaced actually made the MOST hp over H-pipes and true duals. The 944 muff may be a bottleneck but you may just give up a few Hp up top in the RPM’s...you’ll have good torque down low.
