Kerry, part of my job is covering BofA's Dealer Floorplan Services group in OH and IN. Part of our partnership involves our 7-state Dealer Sales channel, with guys focused on getting dealer F&I's to use BofA for end-customer loan financing. While my scope of business is focused on more conventional (conservative) loans for qualified individuals through volume-driven dealerships, I do understand where this sort of specialty loan comes from, and where it can be used. Clearly, living through a bubble economy during the recession has made me wary of ever-increasing loan terms for financial firms (banks, specialty lenders) to compete in an over-banked industry. I took a negative stance in line with the Jalopnik writer of that article. I've said all there needs to be said on this topic.

Andy, thanks for a real-life example of how the loan works short-term, in unique circumstances. I don't doubt people with money to spend on trips like that can benefit from this loan product (as I've mentioned a few times), but I fear the downside risks for others who buy-and-hold beyond the window that there is still money to be made on the car in resale.
-
Kerry, you're so full of shit I can smell you through my monitor. Because I don't think it's a good idea to finance a used car for 12 years, makes you the authority of where this loan is appropriate in the used-car marketplace? You really think I don't understand this product, or is it convenient for you to position me as misunderstood to help your passive-aggressive naysaying on this topic?

LOL. Dat width. This is a genius move. Sooooo much "Nascarlo" but done proper.

Bubble mentality: "The market keeps going up. I'll leverage as much as I can to ride the wave I normally wouldn't support/qualify for on my own." This definitely works...until it doesn't. If you get upside down, you can always just default or declare bankruptcy to get out of it. Depends on how you want to look at your own personal finances...but that's none of my business. (#2007FloridaNevadaRealEstate #StatedIncomeMortgages ) I'm sure a lot of people thought they were going to make a ton of money buying BTC on credit cards at 11,000...until the price dropped to 7,800. :dumb: To Andy and Kerry's credit, maybe a handful of marques can support high-line leases and 144-month loans by people that qualify for them. But "Miss 96-month Tahoe" rolled sales tax into that note and will be paying for it for years to come. That's the dumb I'm talking about.

New truck is off the table. Hit up Randy. not just you, if it makes you feel better...

Depends on what you define as a "friend": you and I are cool, but I disassociate myself from you when you go on your rants. It's a little too much to bear, sometimes. Might as well hear it directly from me!

In the next 5-8 years, the current-gen Mustang is going to be a screaming used-car deal. I've been eyeballing Mustang Convertibles, and while I'd never get one you can pick up 3-5 year old, sub-50k mile FL V6/Auto ex-rentals for less than $16k. https://www.cars.com/for-sale/searchresults.action/?bsId=20202&mdId=21712&mkId=20015&page=1&perPage=20&prMx=15000&rd=99999&searchSource=SORT&showMore=false&sort=price-lowest&stkTypId=28881&yrId=58487&yrId=56007&zc=43220 WARNING: You're going to filter for Manual transmissions, and you're going to be disappointed that they are all automatic.

....aaaaaand this is why Kerry has made so many friends on this board.

I'm not arguing the value of a GTS. I'm talking about accounting for the maintenace of a personal asset that is a car. Smart people structure a corporation that owns your car(s) where operations/maintenance and carrying costs can be a reduction of taxable income, or you're wealthy enough to pay the sales tax and not worry about carrying costs until you sell it 3 years from now for a profit in order to buy the next new-new Porsche. Good luck riding that gravy train; hope it doesn't stop. ^^^But those aren't the people financing 144-month notes on a single car in their name. It's the dumb ones that do it, and it costs them $10,000s to do so.

https://jalopnik.com/this-insane-loan-term-on-a-used-porsche-shows-that-even-1825278525 I get that, over the last several years, the exotic market is super-hot and many great marques like the Porsche 911 keep climbing in value...but seriously, a 12-year loan??? Folks, please look at the simple calculations used in the article...you're adding a ton of interest/taxes on a depreciating asset! Unless you smack a sticker on it advertising your business interests, I don't understand the reasoning for spending this much on cars. But then again...One of the things I love about CR is the down-to-earth crowd. Financing is a reasonable tool to buy a car, but be reasonable about total expenses over the life of that vehicle!

Jeebus...768AWHP in a car smaller than a Neon Coupe! That's sick. What wheels do you have on it as well?

Do you host guys at your shop to watch/make comments/drink beer while you work? Or is it a distraction to your genius?

Good eye on the fender flare...I don’t know why the cheapie Silverados had only one pair of fender flares in the rear, but they are definitely going BYE-BYE (not adding fronts). It’s got some industrial-beefy mud flaps that are staying. I’m taking a heat gun to the emblems as well on the sides and tailgate. I like the silver. For this era, the big front end styling touch Chevy used was that full-width bar splitting the grille and lights....if I painted it black I feel like something would be missing with the silver headlights/parking lights “floating” on the front fascia. My take of course...I respect your opinion.

Elliot II: The Truck Formerly Known as Cleetus IV
zeitgeist57 replied to Otis Nice's topic in Passing Lane
The one thing that won the kids over....was a stereo. Crank windows, rubber floor, dirty cloth bench seat....none of that matters if they can sing along to their favorite songs on Spotify or SiriusXM. For me it’s A/C. To have the ability to dry out interior air/defrost windows has been great this winter. -
I’ve got a coworker looking to get an Ascent to replace his Outback wagon; family guy with 3 kids. Man, I’m surprised there’s not more press on these things. Subaru engineering, 7-passenger seating, more interior room than a Tahoe, fully loaded for less than $50k? Im not in that market but that sounds extremely competitive. Yes, it’s a turbo-4...but auto transmissions these days will keep that thing in the power zone just fine for suburban driving.

I spent 3 minutes on the headlights with a rag and polish. I will definitely give it more elbow grease when the weather gets better, or i’ll Spring $55 for another set on eBay. Aside from maintenance and rust/paint repair, the 2/4 drop is the last thing on the list.
-
Agreed, Scott. Because the wheels are way off the rest of the “budget build”, I can only say that Cleetus V is more about inexpensive fixes, simple style mods, and keeping it clean. The wheels were definitely the most expensive part of the build Here’s my rationale: 1) it was a rare opportunity to get an amazing wheel deal from a guy I know. 2) even new 255-75-16s would’ve been around $400 cheap...and that would’ve been on groce steelies. 3) I also got the truck cheap, so total package price (with HRE’s) still puts me cheaper than getting something off the street at used truck market rates.
-
While I am trying to keep the mods cheap, the rusty steelies and old tires needed to go. No chrome wheelcovers can help this thing! Big THANKS to Tom who gave me a great deal on these 20” HRE 546’s and tires he had on his Denali. The old tires had a couple of separated treads, so highway speeds were not only dangerous but it felt like the entire truck was shaking apart. Now, it rides amazingly, grips well and stops surely. Very happy with the investment!

If there was a guy that should continue Cleetus' life, it's Randy. <3 You didn't need starter fluid EVERYTIME you had to start it...it's just been really cold since you bought it from me and, yeah...you'll need starter fluid then. Dig the newer peep mirrors. Many happy miles, man! Looking forward to updates! -
Awesome look!!!

Rain forecasted Saturday afternoon, gents. Hoping it stays light and late for Saturday.

I bought my wife a P238. The few times I've shot it I'm surprised at how solid it feels for such a compact/light frame...especially compared to my XD-S or others I've tried.

I like the bronze too. But agreed...dip can be patched, it looks good already...just paint the wheel weights and be done (for now )

Thanks, guys! This is why I love CR.
