4.7's are bad for timing chain and head gasket failures with 100k plus miles if it was well maintained its probably ok but if it doesn't have a service history stay away from it.

obd1 gm reads out pretty close to obd2 it just uses a different connector
I have an old snap on brick scanner if you want to stop by and scan it sometime
make sure you have a good ground cable installed between the engine and the chassis or it uses the clutch cable for a ground and eats it all up inside.
the best thing you can do when you sell those cans to people is just act like you know even less than they do and recommend a good shop. without a vacuum pump a good set of gauges a scale and a decent thermometer your basically just guessing.
if your 2010 has factory trailer tow you can buy a plug in harness for the brake controller if you get a chance stop in the store when I'm working and I can show you what to look for and give you a quote on the controller and the harness
