  1. I have an account with Bank One since I am an employee but I'm not really sure how good it is yet. I also have an account at Western Credit Union. Never have any problems with them at all. They don't offer all kinds of services like everyone else but I can bank at any of the CU's in their network and use their ATM's free. They also have awesome rates on loans and they are very helpful when I call them on the phone and ask questions about anything.
  2. I've had two beers. Thats all we've got though and I don't feel like driving in the rain to go get more. smile.gif
  3. d16 engine with the 450cc dsm injectors a honda resistor box, hondata, a greddy turbo kit, and an intercooler. The dsm injectors took a bit of massaging on the orings to make them fit correctly but there was never any other problems with them. We did 197whp and there was some room for more, but the greddy kit was sold instead of trying to push it too far. The car is now running a t3/t4 with some other goodies but it was fairly nice with the old setup. It did end up costing quite a bit in the end, but there were other upgrades done to it to make it ready for the bigger turbo that was added last winter. If you shop around you should be able to pick up all the stuff you need for good prices and do it for a lot cheaper than we did. The car was tuned at payn tech in michigan and the owner was very happy with his experience there.

  6. I think holley sells systems that come complete with their command 950 system for converting cars over to EFI. I would check them out. If not www.ptrsds.com could probabally help set him up with what he needs. There may be an easier or more cost effective way though, maybe someone else will chime in.
  7. We currently have a car running on SDS and it works pretty well. With a simple street tune the car had awesome drivability and got beautiful gas mileage out of boost. The guys at racetech who put out SDS also give excellent customer service. Check out the SDS website they have a couple of tech articles based on their turbo 240sx and there are a few of them in the users vehicles section I'm going to be ordering a DTA system for my car shortly so I can finish all the minor preps to install the turbo. This system has quite a few more bells and whistles than the SDS and costs more but the ease of install on my application and the number of people using it in my opinion make up for the price difference. I would say that while any competent tuner should be able to tune any system if you're going to end up with standalone get one that your tuner is faimilar with. If you're going to try to tune it yourself get one that other people are using on their vehicles in the area or on vehicles like yours out in cyberspace. The help that people already using the system can provide you is invaluable. I know while installing the SDS while I didn't actually talk to anyone using the same setup as me talking to people using the SDS in general was a big help and they answered a lot of my questions. -jeff
  8. Yes. I don't think it will be an attempt at a true equal length header as that would be difficult to get correct. It will be more of a tubular style manifold than most of the other ones out currently though. Basically its going to look similar to the y-pipe style manifold I have right now but rather than use the cast uppers it will be all tubular. That will let me put the turbo in a more agreeable spot as well as make the collector more of a straight shot from all of the runners. This is going to be a summer long project most likley. Now that I started my new job I can afford to do the whole thing right rather than skimp just because I want to turbo my car.
  9. I have another design I drew up in CAD I was just using that manifold for an example. There really aren't a lot of choices for this application. I have a y-pipe right now but I don't think Im going to end up using it. My new design I drew up looks more like the manifold in the back of that picture. Thanks for the info about the heat and the vice thats probabally the route I'm going to go since its the most cost effective. http://palpatine.infinitedata.net/~jweber/mani1.jpg
  10. I don't really see anything on the burns that that looks right. I have also heard the same things about the guys at tubular techniques. If you aren't buying a lot of stuff then you don't get that great of service. Any other ideas or pointers as to how this would get done? Do they just use some kind of press? edit: guess i didnt look close enough. I see the ovalized tubing and it looks like it will work. Just kinda of expensive but everything at burns is expensive. 11. I'm planning to buy a tig welder in the near future. Does anyone have any resources I can check out for locating the one which will best meet my needs, or maybe someone who has all this gear should give me some tips on what I need to look for. The one we have been using is a mig converted to tig but its not the best. Thanks!.
  12. I'm trying to get an idea how I would form tubing or where I could take this to have someone do it for me. http://palpatine.infinitedata.net/~jweber/manifold3.jpg If you look at the even runners they are oval shaped. I want to make a manifold similar to this one but I will need to get the ends of the tubes ovalived like that. Any ideas? -jeff
  13. I wasn't aware that someone could lock you out of it even if you have your own tuning tools to hookup to it and tune it yourself. That pretty much sucks. You're paying for someone to tune your car which imho gives you the right to look at what they did to your system. I have heard of places locking tec maps also like this but I wasn't aware it was an option for hondata as well.

    turbo add

No. They use different head flanges.
  15. What would stop someone from buying the goods and tuning it themselves. Its just like any other standalone. A good knowledge of automobiles and knowing how to use the software and tools and its fully tunable. My friend has a hondata on his car, and I'm trying to talk him into going this route right now hopefully he sees the light and stops dropping 500 bucks to get his stuff retuned every summer.
  16. I've dealt with the guys at M&M before also and they did me right. Good luck with your search.
  17. I guess Iâll toss my two cents into the mix on this one. Iâll start by saying I come here quite often to cruise posts and check to see if anything cool is going on. All to recently however there hasnât been a lot of content I have honestly wanted to look at. Most of the posts are about something I could care less about (read: non-car related). I read car forums for car related information and activities, and I read and participate in this forum because itâs non-specific about who drives what and it is also full of local members. Thereâs a lot to be learned from people who are into different things than you, especially cars, and thatâs my main reason for checking this board on a daily basis. Iâm not saying that Iâm not interested in information thatâs not car related because another reason this board is appealing is 99% of its members are local. However it also seems 99% of the current crap being posted has nothing to do with anything. The pictures and videos forums where I would expect to see pictures and videos of peoples cars is full of porn (Iâm not against porn but it has its place =D) The auto discussion forum has gotten pretty off topic, and the off topic forum has in my opinion has gotten pretty far out of hand. I think that to clean things up you honestly have to clean the board up. More forums to spread things out some may seem like a good idea but there could be quite a bit of consolidation or removal I think. Next I think that the banning and actual moderation of people has been too lax. All of the other boards I frequent wouldnât take a lot of the shit the admins and mods here put up with. While I think its cool they give people so many chances to shape up or be shipped out, there really should be no get out of jail free card. If people know the rules, know there is no leniency and still feel the need to break them then they also know the consequences. Those are my thoughts on the situation take them for what you will, because I will stand behind the decisions you make regarding the board and still plan to frequent it if it stays around. Thanks for the ride so far and hereâs to hoping it continues. -jeff
  18. If so what are you using for an exchanger, and what are its dimensions? What is the flow rate of the pump you are using, and what size coolant resivor are you using for your system? Thanks, just trying to see how other people have/will attack building an a/w intercooling system. -jeff
  19. SDS is good stuff and I would recommend it to someone if they asked what I thought about it. A lot of people like to call it the "My first stand alone" or the "Toy system" but it does what it does and does it well. That being said I might opt for something a little bit different doing it all over again because for a bit more money I could have used all of the factory sensors and gotten a couple more options that might have been nice to have. The best thing to do is find out what other people are running in your situation (if there are other people running something like this) because having a the knowledge of someone whos done it before is invaluable. If you decide to go with the SDS and have any questions let me know and I'll do my best to help you out.

    VR6 mods

It's my understanding all 12v vr6 engines were rated 174bhp. Even those in the mkIV bodies. The new 24v vr6 engines are the ones rated at 200bhp and the r32 3.2L engine is rated at 240bhp. The dynos for most 12v stock cars are in the 150-155whp range. Its also been shown that the motors make more power on a 2.5" exhaust if you're staying N/A to the tune of about .2 in the 1/4 mile. You can read the big debates on the vortex but .2 in the quarter mile consistantly wins my vote to run the 2.5". I think the stock exhaust is around 2 1/8" atleast thats what it was on my corrado. My vote if you decide to stay n/a would be cat 268* cams a 2.5" techtonics exhaust a giac 268 chip and a turn 2 intake. Maybe throw the turn 2 crank pulley on there too while you're at it since its cheap. Turn 2 motor mount setup also makes a world of difference. It should be a pretty fun car then.

    VR6 mods

What do you already have done to your car is the first question? Is it a 5spd or an auto? Also what are your goals? Boost may not be needed if you just want to pep things up a bit. If its still stock you might as well start where everyone does and hit up the handling mods. If you just want to pep your car up some you can do the easy things. Exhaust, chip, intake, cams. People seem to make about 150whp on stock dynos and after these mods you see them near 175whp. Look to spend about 1500 in parts on this stuff. Don't waste your money on a bvh, or a schrick or ported manifold. The costs of those don't out weigh the gains. For boost you could get away with turboing your car for ~2500 if you're a deal hawk and hit everything at just the right time. The only problem here is there are a lot of things you should upgrade before you go turbo. The most important thing to remember that the diff in your transmission likes to shear rivets off under high torque, and even if you replace those rivets with arp bolts then your diff may explode. It's pretty much a requirement to replace the stock diff with a nice aftermarket atb diff. I recommend peloquin. http://www.peloquins.com/ Someone is selling their setup on the vortex for 662 shipped, and thats quite a deal. Just some things to think about. Good luck and its nice to see some other vw owners on here. Also you spelled volkswagen wrong in your profile.
  22. I talked to my buddy and he said he would do it for 100 bucks if that sounds reasonable. He wont have time for a couple days I dont think though. I can get you in touch if you're interested. Just let me know.

Is it the mk3 or mk4 body style? They switched mid year so you never can tell. If you don't want to spend cash don't bother modding it. 3 ways to go. All motor : p&p head (cch and nothing else) 2500 big cams (schrick 268's) 800 exhaust 400 Could put you near 180-190whp on a good day. Supercharged : VF Supercharger kit : 3500 Clutch and pressure plate : 400 Quafie or Peloquin Diff : 800 Stage one nets around 230-240whp on a good day. Turbo : Setup pieced together from atp will run you about 5000 software from c2 motorsports and a new maf another 500 NEED the diff and the clutch. Shown to put down 260whp @ ~8psi The sky is the limit here though it just depends on what you want to spend. Setups easily range from 250-600+ in the turbo arena. All of these options are more or less available for the mk3 and mk4 but realize the mk4 has a plastic variable intake manifold which isn't high boost turbo friendly and the ecu and car wiring its self is much more complicated than a mk3. Good luck if you decide to mod it and if you have any questions let me know. smile.gif
  24. I was just on the phone and the guy I was talking to recommended the .67 turbine, he said he has a program where he fills in the parameters and it tells him what turbine fits the specific goals but he wouldn't elaborate on what the program actually was. I think I'm just gonna start with a 60-1 hi-fi with a normal t4 turbine housing since I can get one for around 600 bucks and then go from there. The gt series is about double that. I could spend that money else where like on good engine management.
