I'd personally take .243 (actually .243AI, but that's whole 'nother ball game) over most anything for Ohio hunting. It's big enough for any game in Ohio, big enough for elk if you use it right, devastating on varmints, 6mm bullet selection is spectacular, not to mention 6mm ballistics spank just about everything.

I have no personal experience with them, but I have heard the Axis model is to be avoided. You might do some more research on them before ordering.

I tend not to fuck around. :masturboy:

Thanks for the tip on the infused stuff; I was unaware of that. I have yet to order a cutter or beads. I'm probably gonna go with a Vector double Guillotine and also one of their punches, just to try both. As for beads, I'll probably go with some of those that you posted from HFI. Is it OK to leave the cigars in their packaging for a week or two while the humidor is seasoning or will they dry out?

Not so much illegal (unless you don't have the proper documentation), just restricted a bit more. There's some hoops you have to jump through, as well as money you have to pay, in order to obtain one.

A little clarification: Rifled barrels are for sabot'd slugs. Smooth bore barrels are for shot and rifled slugs.
-
This. A longer barrel DOES NOT produce a tighter choke, contrary to misguided, popular belief.

Haven't smoked a single one. :dumb: Really? :fuuuu:

What is this? I don't even... Got a bowl of distilled water sitting in it now. Gonna check it in a week to see what it's up to. In the mean time, I'm gonna order a digi-hygrometer and some beads. http://i41.tinypic.com/vnmljk.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/2d3v9h.jpg Ordered some more samples and such. We'll see. http://i43.tinypic.com/2rhydkg.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/fk6yaq.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/vo9b7q.jpg

Seen it in real life. The joys of my job...

The problem with surplus ammo isn't so much that it's dirty, it's that the majority of the time the primers contain potassium chloride salts which deposit everywhere upon firing, and thus draw in moisture, causing corrosion. You have to stay on top of cleaning or you risk your shit rotting to hell and back. You can pour an ammonia based product such as Windex down your barrel to neutralize the salts, which will buy you some time.

I could have sworn when I ordered one for a customer a few years back it was around $750. hmm.
-
And it tears up the bullet traps.

MOff the top of my head, calibers that would fit your bill include. 223 and. 22-250 (both too weak for elk-sized game but work great on yotes),. 243 (borderline too weak for elk, but would work with the proper bullet and placement),. 260 (nasty LR round but ammo selection is limited),. 7mm-08 (decent but somewhat limited selection ),. 308 (probably your best, well - rounded, easy to find option),. 30-30 (if you want a lever gun, cheap), 308mx/. 338mx (I love these rounds, built for lever guns, would work for yotes and elk just fine),. 270 and. 30-06 (boring and out dated IMO. Anything bigger is a waste of money IMO and are meant for applications other than your own. As for rifles, you have your standard Remington 700 and Savage 10s and 12s in whatever flavor you desire. Then there's Ruger, Weatherby, winchester, and Marlin (lever guns) and some others. If you plan on keeping it basic and stock, I'd go with a Savage because they're pretty good in base form.

10/22. Build from there.
-
Indoor ranges won't allow you to use it because it tears up the bullet traps. You should be GTG at most outdoor ranges.

I agree; the show is getting annoying. And Shane is, by far, my favorite character. Shoot now, shoot some more, fuck bitches, and then if anything is left moving, shoot it too. The dude is in survival mode and Bitch Rick wants to save the God damn world. Shane would be much better off on his own. And the women need to die. They are useless.

I prefer Federal HSTs over most others, however, almost any modern HP will fair very well against 2-legged critters. As for bullet weight, I typically prefer moderately light and fast over slow and heavy. I feel that most of the modern stuff has adequate penetration; even the light weight stuff. So, I go for extra 'splat' vs. unneeded penetration. I also try to match practice ammo weight (FMJs) to carry ammo weight, just for some consistency. And as always; shot placement > ammo selection. The world's best HP does you absolutely no good if they don't make contact.

Awesome info and suggestions. Thanks, folks. :fuckyeah: That's probably very true. I'm usually not that sensible, though. :masturboy:

IIRC, they are between $7-800 for a cheap one.

I'm going to try to join you and would like some insight. I don't smoke, and have never smoked, but, I'm looking to pick up some finer things in life. I am waaaay green when it comes to cigar stuff. I stopped by the Tinder Box in Dublin and talked to the old dude with the sick beard that was running the place. He seemed very knowledgeable, which was nice. I told him I was looking to get into it a bit and to give me a small, but decent selection. I went home with 10 different cigars and was told that this was a good start. He seemed to have a bias (perhaps it is justified) towards Padrons. I bought a sample pack of 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 and an Exclusivo, whatever the fuck those are. I also told him I wanted a small variety of some various other brands. I ended up with an Ashton, Royal Butera vintage, A. Fuente Gran Reserva, Gran Habano Connecticut #1, and an Alec Bradley Black Market. They all appear to be about the same size and shape. First impression upon smelling them all; they all smell like shit. I hope they don't taste like they smell. The cedar smell on the cellophane smells nice, though. The Exclusivo (I think that's the one) smells the best out of all of them, and that was because it didn't have much of a smell to it at all. I was also told the little humi-paks he gave me were only good for about a month, so, I guess I'll need a humidor as well. He also sold me this chinsy little cutter that looks like something you'd find in an arts and crafts store, so, I'll be needing something a bit more elegant there, as well. For a humidor, I was thinking about this one, based on no other logical reason than, "I like how it looks." http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=M-HUM120RC&cat=10 Thoughts? Do I need anything else for it or do I just stick the cigars in there and let them go? Again, I'm green here. Cutters? I want something :fuckyeah: . This plastic POS isn't gonna cut it (eh, see what I did thar?........:dumb:) I ordered a zippo, mostly cause I just want one, but from the little bit of reading I've done, matches or cedar sticks are the way to go, for whatever reason. I have this feeling that 10 cigars isn't a very good start. So I'm looking for recommendations on various cigars that would be good to start out with, or what your favorites are. Again, I'm looking for a variety here. In the end, this all might be a huge failure. I'll probably end up taking one puff, coughing up a lung, saying 'fuck this' and selling everything. But, I'm gonna give it a solid try.

Mega ftw. All my AR's are based on MEGAs. Love'em.
