Need help: bug guts, interior scrapes and rubber revival
Aaron replied to Aaron's topic in Tech and Tips
Thanks for the help. You will have a PM shortly. Awesome thanks doc. I won't be up your way today, but maybe this weekend sometime I can swing by. My dad's car doesn't have many bugs so it won't be needed on his car, but mine is covered. Front, hood, windshield etc. That is a pretty good system for using basic over the counter type products. I used to use claybar, then the meguires 3 step system and always had good results. I have been trying to kick my car care up a notch over the past year though. Bought a Porter Cable 7424 buffer, some good pads, some quality polishes and waxes and have been working on my technique. However I feel now its time for step 2 of my "serious" car care to start. I will be doing some research and talking to the detailers on here to get another batch of products to complete my arsenal so I can be prepared for most DIY style issues with my cars. Thanks again guys, keep it coming! -
He was talking about the 89-95 SHO's.

Need help: bug guts, interior scrapes and rubber revival
Aaron replied to Aaron's topic in Tech and Tips
I am asking this because I am going to do a full detail on my dads 1 year old Red GTI tomorrow and Friday and wanted some answers for his detail and future reference. I need to put in an order for some more MF towels, cloths and some more products, so it would be nice to know what the detailers recommend. -
I am fairly competent with the basic otc stuff, and have some higher quality products form Menzerna and Glanz along with a PC 7424 and some MF towels and cloths. I do however always seem to be underwhelmed with a few things when I do a wash or full detail. 1. How do you get 100% of the bugs off of the paint? I have tried just using the wash mit, and a few otc things however I can never seem to get them off. 2. The lower part of the door panels as well as the door jam trim get scuffed from shoes entering and exiting the car. I used to have some interior cleaner that did a pretty good job, but didn't get them removed. A general soapy cloth also doesn't do the trick. 3. The rubber mouldings around the windows is always faded and discolored even on my 1 month old car (6 months old from build date). What products do you use to revive the rubber moldings around windows as well as rubber seals on doors/trunk/hood etc. Thanks for the help. Aaron

All of the reviews have said that it's a great sleeper in a straight line, it would be great on long trips but it is NO way a sports sedan. I completely agree with you that for those that actually know anything about Taurus and Ford transmissions that a 4400lb awd car with the standard taurus trans and brakes is just a recipe for disaster. Hopefully they revise the SHO in a year or two with better brakes, suspension and trans. Picking one up 2 years old for 20k would be a decent deal for sure, but 45k? lol And Jones, you should hear all the idiot country bumpkins on the shoforum that say its an Audi, BMW, Acura competitor for 2/3 the price. lol They dismissed the G8 because it doesn't have as nice of an interior as the SHO:doh: They think its on par with the Germans. Its like talking to the wall over there.

Go buy a 996 turbo and quit clogging up this thread. At least the SHO was at one time loved by everyone. More can be said for the 996's. :bangbang: Just messing. The new SHO is 4350lbs, its brakes are too small, the transmission is not suited for any more tq than the factory engine, and the price is outrageous. 46k loaded up, and then you can't get the track pack. About 44k with the track pack. Oh and not to mention its absolutely HUGE. I am a SHO nut and I couldn't care less about the new SHO. They should have put it all in the Fusion with a 6mt.

4350lbs, automatic transmission, AWD 365hp etc. A few guys on the shoforum were part of the release and talked to the engineers. They said they limited the power because of the weak transmission. C&D also said it had horribly weak brakes. Sounds like they picked up where they left off.

for reference I do not fit in a C5/C6 corvette at all.

I have noticed people knocking the new Camaro because of lack of headroom but I am 6'6" 340 and was completely comfortable in it; enough for the interior room not to be a consideration for buying one. My dad is 6'4" and 250 and was also very comfortable in it. I never hit my head in usual motions, only if I tried to do it to check head room would it hit.

I love the ZR-1, however I still can't get over that ridiculous hood. It does look awesome in white with the dark wheels.

No its not. For the prototype SHO they did use a ford block, but when the completed prototype was sent to Yamaha (entire car) they decided that the Ford block was not capable of spinning at 7k reliably. They scrapped the block and made their own. The entire engine in the V6 cars is Yamaha sourced. I can't remember exactly, but I think the V8 was only Yamaha for the intake manifold-hence the blown cams.

I vote for a GTI, or a Cobalt SS/TC. As Jones said though, just go drive a bunch of stuff. The SS/TC's are getting in the mid teens for the 2008 models.

that would be toolman on the shoforum. He is THE guy to talk to about F/I SHOs. He has built many throughout the years. The Yamaha V6 in the 89-95 SHO has forged internals. Most people use stock engines to run 300-500hp and others throw in a set of low comp pistons and fresh seals/bearings and never worry about it again. One guy has a supercharged 3.0 with over 300k miles on the stock engine. Pretty amazing stuff, and way ahead of their time in 89.

As you know the only "bolt on" that does much of anything on a 5 speed sho is the down pipe. A solidly maintained SHO will outrun a "modded" sho with 0 maint. (I know you know this, I am simply explaining this for those that don't) The SHO 5 speed is deceptively fast from a roll. I would say if you ran low 14s, it would be a close race until the speeds reach 100+ where the SHO would start to pull. The SHO is notoriously bad in the 1/4. They seem to hang with cars about 1 second faster than their 1/4 times from a roll. def not. I miss my SHO big time!!

I will be getting one next year. Gen 2. I have had 2 and love them. Congrats on the car.

I thought it was funny as hell. Joe buck is a fucking douche bag.
