  1. Had this happen a couple years ago when one of the VRAM chips went and cooked itself. All sorts of curious visual artifacts came to my screen. There's also a separate issue where multi-head setups will sometimes wake up some, but not all, of your screens. Half the time it seems that every screen wakes up except the one that has the login prompt. Just type your password and hit enter, and when you log back in, it'll wake up as well.
  2. Not to my knowledge. We (the worker bees) generally find out about something a few days before they're posted on the corp website since we have a referral bonus, but there is no "only insiders will ever know this exists" back door. Sometimes the managers will search via LinkedIn if they're looking for a specific niche to fill, so make sure you're visible there, too.

  4. Dammit, just when I was starting to lose the hangover
  5. Unrelated to wheels: How much can one expect to pay for coating large flats/panels? I'm talking 8'x2' and 6'x3' sorts of things.
  6. This is true of AC. DC will blast your ass across the room and leave it charred and smoking. AFAIK, all hybrids use brushless DC motors. The question of "phase" doesn't apply, as that is specific to AC.
  7. Quite possible... remember crying is the only way babies have of saying they're not happy, and it'll take a while to learn the difference between "My tummy hurts," "I'm hungry," "Hold me," "My butt is all warm and squishy," and "I miss the hot tub, please put me back in there." Remember to burp them regardless of whether they're nursing off a bottle or a titty.
  8. Interesting how they're more or less hating on both the cars

  10. Ahh, ok, that explains it. You learned your lesson, so now you know better.
  11. You were doing great until this one.....
  12. This, ladies and leeches, is why the idea of "judging" boxing is just plain dumb. It really ought to be like Thunderdome... two conscious people enter, only one conscious person leaves. Stick a ref in there to count the lucky loser out, but once you're in, you're in until you win, or wake up a week later wondering wtf that big red thing coming at you in the corner of your eye was.
  13. 10-12 hours a day? or a week? It's probably too late for this year, but I spent a good part of high school working year-round as a lifeguard. Generally had three 4-hour, after school shifts each week at the city rec center. IIRC, it paid about 7/hr at a time when minimum wage was 5.50. Not going to make anyone rich (which I think is a crock considering the level of responsibility versus the legal protections), but by the same token, the stress level is also usually pretty low.
  14. Got a 512MB 7900GT, dual DVI, also free if you drive down Smokey Row to get it.
  15. Sounds like you could make a probable-cause call to the local K-9 unit :masturboy:

  17. You may offend someone, it's ok. Except when that someone is a woman, who files a sexual harassment lawsuit against the company. HR then fires you without due process and settles just to make the bad PR go away before it turns into a real shit storm. Then people wonder why men are being pussies and start threads like this.
  18. - I'm a success story. - That doesn't mean there weren't an awful lot of losers, exaggerators/minimizers, or "just didn't hit it off" along the way. Things to remember: - Find some way of slipping a contact method into your profile or initial email. I remember seeing a stat a while back saying the non-subscription rate was as high as 90% - Keep in mind that nobody's perfect... Sure you may like brunettes, but don't ignore someone just because she's blonde. - Fer cryin out loud, always send a response, even if only to say "Sorry, but your snaggle tooth is worse than Jewel, and your chin could knock out Jay Leno."
  19. Just walk into Microcenter and compare. Reading reviews will make your eyes bleed, there's nothing better than just walking up to the things and seeing how they really look in terms of clarity and crispness. After that, get a decent calibration package (I've got one of the Spyders). Default color settings out of the box are usually way too loud compared to what is actually being sent by the computer.
  20. Cabin filters are entirely dependent on how much you use them... I've been surprised at how natty mine's been when I pulled it out, and I don't even use the a/c or heater that much
  21. I've been using PDANet on my Droid2 Global. Want to go Cyanogen, but missed an update block and if I tried to flash it now, I'd brick the thing
  22. I'd have to look and see if I still have my old statements, but I think three is how long it took for my fail brakes-caused rear ending to clear off.
  23. True, but they're a magnet rather than traditional, so you can't really do a true apples-to-apples comparison.
