  1. You have PM with ADP's own link to calculate the program for yourself. I plugged in some very conservative numbers of only $300mo contribution, 5% 401k growth and balanced that against your 4.25% rate and you still come out nearly $1,200 lower in total earnings by doing a traditional loan at 6.5%. As noted in my PM, I highly doubt your 401k is only pulling in 5%. If you're not double that, then you need to kick your employer in the balls. You're younger than me and I plugged you in at age 42 and retiring at 67 and got the above results. Even if you retire at 60 the difference is huge. I plugged in my numbers shared via PM and here's what it would cost me right now to do a 3yr loan against my 401k for a $10k loan at a mere 4.25% As you can see, I won't be borrowing against it for anything as the future earnings get killed. Now granted I max out my contributions and you may not but, I bet you'll impacted much greater than you might have initially calculated. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/143321815/original.jpg
  2. Get with your financial planner. Our guy reviews my 401k to insure it's being distributed to the best funds and has cart-blanch with me to change it to work out, thus why mine kicked ass last year. We meet with him quarterly to over our portfolio. He also consults with our tax people to insure we're on track to not owe or to have paid in too much. My wife who you know is a bankruptcy attorney, also chimed in to warn you (others) that loans from 401k's expose you to even further risk as that money is no longer protected from the courts should you go belly up. Risk/Reward.
  3. I edited and clarified my initial post to show that the interest portion is what is essentially taxed twice and that is the case. The loan amount is borrowed at the same rate it's re-contributed, but the interest paid is from post tax dollars, grows tax deferred and will be taxed a second time upon withdrawal. To me the real cost in the futures. Especially in today's market where essentially everything is on sale. The drawback here is that the funds borrowed will lose the potential to gain value and IMO if you're investing in the right stuff today (buying low) you are really costing yourself a lot of future earnings. I saw very, very nice gains on my 401k distributions over the past 12 months. No way I would remove $10k from the market to try and save a few bucks. Especially given the risk of today's job market. This job market also puts 401k borrows are extreme risks given a job change happening. The other aspect of this type of loan compared to say even a home equity line of credit which does not get taxed twice, and in fact is tax advantaged, giving you additional write-offs. My insight would be max out your 401k, especially if there's a company match and even more so if you're fully vested. If your income level allows, open a ROTH. When we were younger and just starting out opening our own ROTH IRA's was a great move for us. Now while we aren't able to still contribute to one, we are still able to withdraw all that principle without issue and still maintain the accounts and the growth realized in them. Hopefully we never have to though.
  4. So you paid yourself back a loan where the interest amount is being taxed twice and that was not real downside? Unless you're in the 0% tax bracket, you just paid more income tax on that interest rate amount thought to have been saved vs traditional lenders. IMO, You're way better off deferring pre-tax money into your 401k, especailly in a down market where those investment dollars buy more. Even if you took post tax money and put it into a ROTH you'll come out way ahead. You can withdraw ROTH Principle at anytime without issue too so you won't be paying double taxes if you use that money. Lastly, just take post tax income and pay the slightly higher interest rate on money borrowed. In the end, it's way better than paying double income taxes on the interest for the amount you're borrowing and taking so many very high risks with your retirement money.
  5. You're not likely saving a dollar as you're paying your own loan back with after tax dollars and then when you withdraw it, it's being taxed again. Double taxes on the interest you are paying doesn't equal a good move. In the end you are paying taxes twice ona portion of the money you use to repay the loan, which drives up the effective cost of borrowing from your 401k. Didn't you at one time discuss possibly looking for another job? If you do, you'll have to pay the loan back in full within 60 days. If you aren't able to do that, that amount will be seen as a full distribution that you will pay income tax on and likely another 10 percent penalty. You're better off taking the $10 out of a savings account you have and paying that account back. Personally, I would never do anything that limits you funding your retirement.

  8. Nice pickup for him. I really like the new Stangs. Has the 3.7l in it. Hopefully the new Fusion Sport gets it or better too. The 3.5l picks up well though. Manual or auto in the Mustang? Just needs to get a new set of wheels and he'll be all set.
  9. everyone has already chimed in with the thoughts and specifics on the ones you mentioned. I'll add that the wife and I have owned two and sold two. It's not easy but in todays market, you can buy cheap and if you're halfway good with money, own it in so little time you might not give a shit if you can't sell it. Market will pick up in the future and honestly, if you can't sell it, just rent it once you own it. We have several rental properties and while they can be a PIA, if you do it right and get tenants through referrals, you can pretty much hand pick what you want to live there in terms of people. I absolutely will not advertise for any of our rentals. Works for us. However in the mean time, you have to do what work$ for you.
  10. We have the same typical 1/8th acre suburban lot. Brian cares for the whole lot and now the only areas that will need my continued love are the continuous brown spots thanks to our dogs :dumb:
  11. Find beautiful blonde, have fun.....buy car, ship it back, have more fun.
  12. Porn and Thorne in the same sentence is scary enough but combining the two  Not sure I want to see Thorne porn.
  13. I have your $5. Call me. :gabe:
  14. Very nicely done. Mike, you're a great guy and most certainly got the better half of that deal
  15. I was right there with you a few years back Nick. For me it's the time involved. Last thing I want to do is spend even 1-2hrs of my time, buying materials, spreading chemicals, cleaning up, etc.... It's much nicer to come home and see it done for me and the results to back it up. We went 1-2 years after ditching Scotts but the results weren't the same. Mainly because i wasn't as consistent and generally hated doing it. BOth showed.
  16. PM BrianZO6 / thread. Seriously. As of right now if you saw my lawn vs what it was in March you'd swear we had the front and back sodded. He's transformed it over the past 1-2 years from what it was. I used to use Scotts, but for my lot, they just plain got way to high $$ and while it was nice, it's not what it is today. I pay far less to him, he uses less treatments and chemicals thus it's no doubt safer for my family and honestly, better than over treating the grass, thus better for the lawn and soil. He's also a solid CR Sponser and I'd rather spend my money here than with strangers. Come check it out if you want and I'll walk you through the transformation. Just PM Me. I'll be cutting it tonight.
  17. I respectfully disagree. Sure, operating a camera isn't difficult but then just like racing, it's not about the gear or even simply knowing how to operate it. It's about what you do with it. Although I will add proper use is not the same in everyone's eyes either. You certainly have some fine shots for what they are, but IMO the lighting and processing and thus final output do clearly separate those shots from what you will get from a professional. Part of that is likely due to equipment, including monitor calibration. The other aspect that I think Hal touched on is being able to tell the story and capture the event in such a way that goes well beyond just snapping pics. Again, congrats on your enjoyment of what you have from your wedding. It's obvious that going further than that would not yield more value to you personally. However, not everyone drives a luxury car or sees value in a truly performance oriented car either. However, in the end, there is a difference. and that last sentence is key and certainly a choice that will vary among everyone. to me not caring (perhaps as much as most others) is key to your decision.
  18. Are you serious If you are then I would seriously question your understanding of photography or really the exposure you've had to the ones who helped you form that opinion. Pun absolutely intended. That's like saying give the best track guy here an Indy car and they would be able to compete. Not even close.
  19. Nazi Cross Wheels
  20. Check your vent line and make sure it's clear. Don't just look, stuff the hose of a shop vac all around there. Ours needs cleaned twice per year otherwise it seems like it gets warm/hot but it won't dry the clothes. If it gets too dirty the dryer will get too hot and the link can catch fire. So, if you've not cleaned it out in the last 6 months, try that first.
  21. Gotta say if I heard loud music on a regular basis or if your dog was pissing me off on a regular basis, I'd come knock on your door vs a note but perhaps they are passive aggressive twits. Perhaps you take it to the next level and request a meeting with the office manager, your friends downstairs and hash this shit out at a nuetral location like the office for the apts. My wife and I did that back in the days prior to owning and were renting a town home where the neighbor next door would leave his TV all night and jacked up volume as that's how he liked to sleep. Office sided with us and told him to stop it or GTFO. If you feel it's you that are in the wrong, then take your lumps. IMO they aren't likely doing this if you are 100% innocent.
  22. The 4s is a decent P&S for what it is. Has poor DR, can't handle highlights well at all and bokeh is beyond bad, but it is a camera that can produce a decent pick and is with me at all times.

would be cool if this was still 1999 when what he has and modded was still the rage. I was pretty happy with my 97 GTP going 14.6's stock and then eventually owning a 99 that went 12's but again, we're talking over 10yrs ago when that platform was fun. Today it's just plain old news IMO.
