  1. will do all the above, tonight and update the thread tomorrow. thanks guys kirk
  2. i'll pick one up today no clue here, how do i check?? because i'm retarded
  3. i recently swapped out whatever t-stat was in there for a 180 degree t-stat. i will be getting a new fuel pump later today. haven't checked the timing at 3500rpms. right now its around 10.5 degrees, and around 30 degrees with the vacuum advance hose attached
  4. i haven't changed the fuel pump yet--its the original pump, that might be my next step, as well as adding better gas.
  5. guys, i'm having some minor issues with my '85 stang. it seems to be 'pinging' when i go WOT. it doesn't matter what the engine rpms are, when i punch it, i hear what sounds like a clattering coming from the motor. if i'm only 1/2 throttle it won't do it. here's my set-up: 52k mile stock bottom end 5.0, with edelbrock performer intake, holley 585 carb, GT40 heads (upgraded springs??), crane roller rockers, e303 cam as far as i know. i filled the tank up with 87 octane, and figured the car had too much timing for that octane (should have used 93 octane), so i backed the timing down to 10 degrees from 14. the plugs are autolite 104's gapped at 0.043", new distributor cap, rotor, and plug wires, fresh fuel filter. when i made those changes (decreased timing, lowered gap from 0.050 to 0.043"), the pinging stopped for a day, but now it came back. it doesn't seem to do it when the car is cold, either. i will add 93 octane as soon as the tank gets lower furthermore, i took it on the freeway yesterday, and ran it pretty hard. i noticed that the car seemed to be running a bit hot when i was stopped at lights, or when i nailed it. when i got home, tons of coolant had been spit out of the expansion tank, and all the coolant hoses seemed tight as a drum, like the coolant system was pressurized or something. when the car cooled down, i had to add about 2 quarts of coolant to the radiator. oil looks totally fine. WTF?? blown head gasket?? how do i verify this?? could detonation have caused all this?? any help would be appreciated.
  6. buckle seatbelt. drive car into scioto river. light should go off. problem solved. welcome to the site.
  7. i didn't read this, but does the mach 1 have longtube headers?? if so, that could easily account for the 2psi difference in boost.
  8. great numbers for your mods. these cobras are stout when tuned correctly, and not totally abused. i've had my car at the track twice, and have not broken a single thing with 590rwhp (knock on wood). i still have the stock clutch. only suspension mods are an IRS brace, subframes and springs. i've been running this combo for over 5k miles and 2 years without any problems whatsoever. my car is amazingly quiet with a glass-smooth idle. i've got a solid rear going in, and should hit 10's with some practice. congrats again--enjoy the car and drive it hard--plenty of pullied cobras nearing 100k miles with no issues
  9. here are some pics from today--i just fully detailed the exterior http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/5163/s3500117.jpg http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/6024/s3500126.jpg http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/2074/s3500116.jpg http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/8380/s3500132.jpg http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/6674/s3500112.jpg
  10. not too good. my uncle put 38psi in the tires before he shipped the car to me, and i haven't had the chance to decrease tire pressure, or do a burnout to heat the tires. also, i'm still running a 7.5" rear, and i'm not ready to upgrade to an 8.8" until i move out of tampa this summer, so i'm not going to 'test' things too much. the tires at least look pretty sweet--they've been on the car for at least 10 years--my uncle drove the car 500 miles in the 8 years he owned it
  11. car is up and running like a beast. 5.0 liter with GT40 heads, e303 cam, intake, carb, headers, SLP loudmouth. just finished the control arms, shocks, rear springs, and changed every fluid in the car, with a complete tune-up. enjoy, i'll have some vids of it on the road soon
  12. looking good. i've used the duplicolors high heat paint with good success--after cleaning the parts and applying a self-etching primer, which it looks like you did. these cars should have marks on the crank damper, and a timing pointer on them.
  13. in a 3150lb car, yes. c6z's are looking better and better.
  14. tell me about how well these cars respond to intake/exhaust/moderate cam??
  15. i just bought a shamwow at target--i won't use it on any of 'my' cars--maybe the wife's but not mine--i haven't even tried it yet.
  16. i can't stand paying money back to the govt. i will most likely always claim less deductions than necessary to make sure i get money back. my next deduction should be arriving in just over 2 months--
  17. plenty of mustangs on this site that would rape the shit out of your airplane winged abortion---see my sig for three examples.
  18. i claim no deductions and have a wife and twin daughters. my tax return was nice, as always. i find that if i claimed more deductions, it is true that i would get more money with each paycheck, but it would be easier to spend that money. when i get one big check at the end of the year from uncle sam, i'm guilted into putting most of it into savings--in the long run, it allows me to save more money
  19. my dad has a mint '72 454 stingray vette--hasn't been driven in 25 years, and has 6k miles. yeah, its going to take some work to get it going--but my dad has not asked me to step in yet. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=65&pictureid=374 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=65&pictureid=376
  20. husband needs to suck it up and get a job somehow--ANY JOB. they also need to walk away from that house and get a cheaper one. plenty of people are just moving out of their house without even trying to sell it--they just walk away. $175k house is too much for them in this volatile economy where jobs are at such risk, and its clear he is not motivated.
  21. are you serious, or is this a joke?? you have a car in pieces that needs paint, has no motor, and you're worried about what?? someone opening your garage and dragging off the primered shell of what once was a nice, reliable, gas sipping daily beater?? you must be kidding me. other than that, welcome to the site. be sure to check out the JDM (whatever the fuck that means) section here. its filled to the brim with 15-17 second cars with huge wings, lambo doors, neon lights, gutter mesh, seat belt pads, stickers, and fart cans so big they give birth to "car abortions" just like yours on a daily basis.
