On a positive note, Dontre Wilson can't seem to be praised enough. Sounds like he's going to be special.

Hall running as the #1 RB in practice today.
-
Yeah, this isn't a court of law. If the NCAA feels there's enough out there to determine that he did this (and there's absolutely no way he signed as much as there appears to be out there for free) he has to sit some games. It seems there are new brokers coming out every day now with a Manziel story. Kid must have pissed them all off by #1 coming off as a total douchebag since January, lowering the prices of the stuff he signed and #2 flooding the market by working with so many different brokers, again lowering the prices.

I think people bashing what he did last season now are letting what has transpired since he won the Heisman mess with their heads a bit too much. He had an incredible season. It's just people didn't buy into it until after he led his team to victory @ #1 Alabama. It was like that game made the rest of his ridiculous stat lines count all of a sudden. And I don't have a problem with that. Obviously he's proven to be something of a douche since hoisting the trophy but I'm not going to let that ruin what he did last season. Onto other SEC business... LSU RB Jeremy Hill has been reinstated to the team after his teammates voted for it to be done...lol. For those who don't know, Hill sucker punched someone outside a bar a while back. Video evidence and everything. This was also a violation of his probation. And just...boom. Right back on the team. Meanwhile Urban has a freshman TE completely suspended from all team activities right now for underage drinking/fake ID, a likely 1st round CB set to be suspended a game or two for getting into it with some bouncers at a bar and the team's leading rusher suspended 3 games in a case where charges weren't even filed. It's just different in the SEC.

Just because you're rich doesn't mean you don't want more money. Especially if it's as easy as signing your name for a couple hours. He picks up $10k+ to party down in Miami and life is good.

It's interesting. ESPN's Outside the Lines is the biggest outlet reporting this so far. They seem to be in on the story. They avoided the Cam Newton story like the plague and it was quickly dealt with and closed. They're jumping on this one. It could very well be dealt with and closed just as fast (it will have to be fast anyway with the season less than a month away) but something feels different about this one. It's SEC, sure, but it's new SEC. A big, bad Texas team joins the SEC, takes down mighty Alabama in Tuscaloosa and has a Heisman winner in their first year in the conference? The other SEC teams who have done things a certain way for decades might not like that too much. So while teams down there would normally keep their mouths shut with regards to each others' transgressions maybe ol' Saban has hired his own team of PI's to track this story down...lol.

Reppin' a kid who idolized Simon instead... Billy Price.

I like a lot of the "special" uniforms out there. More importantly, recruits LOVE them. And that's really all that matters.
-
Helmets for UM game were definitely great. Whole uniform would have been great had there been a better outline around the numbers and if the names weren't in black. And I agree with the cheesiness of the facemask. It looks like a block O that would end up on an amateur cake decoration because the bars are rounded. Just doesn't work.
-
Yeah, Purdue, Cal and Penn State would be in the next tier of toughest games I think.
-
I know a lot of OSU fans who say they always have a great time @ Northwestern games. Except of course in 2004. One of the 3 toughest games for OSU this season I think. Right there with Wisconsin @ home but behind @ Michigan for sure.

Defense is important but below 10 a game is a tall order. Since 2001 only 3 teams have done that. 2001 Miami 2008 USC 2011 Alabama Just get it back down below 20 (teams averaged 23ppg against OSU last season) and they should be good. Below 15 would be excellent. Front 7 is going to have a lot of new faces which may not be a bad thing with how the defense performed last season. But a lot of the issues were in the secondary (safeties especially) allowing big YAC and aside from Doran Grant stepping in for Travis Howard, the secondary remains the same. Will still have CJ Barnett who hasn't been the same since he blew out his knee and Christian Bryant who either lands huge hits or whiffs completely.

Yep. Sucks since I don't really like Roosters wings at all. Have to give them another try here soon I guess.

Yeah, 2006 OSU was 35ppg (36ppg before Florida happened) and 2010 OSU was 39ppg. Think about this though... Last year's team, in Meyer's first year, was 37ppg. Higher than that 2006 team regardless of the Florida game. I think 40ppg is almost a guarantee and wouldn't be surprised to see something close to 45ppg. Oregon's tempo had a big influence on Meyer in his year off. He wants that. They couldn't do it last year because they had to help the defense a bit early on and they were missing the pivot (Jordan Hall would have been it last year, will be this year along with guys like Dontre Wilson and Jalin Marshall). To get an idea... Oregon's ppg for the last few years... 2012 - 50 2011 - 46 2010 - 47

Yeah, I started doing that recently with a wings place up the street from me where I went a good bit for the same reason. Of course they went out of business 2 weeks ago so back to no tips for carry out. :lolguy:

Yep, Brady Quinn was supposed to be the frontrunner for the Heisman, leading ND to a national title game under Charlie Weis. Troy was definitely a contender but Brady was out in front until Michigan made him look real bad in South Bend early in the season.
-
In the final minutes of the Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame Herbie and Musburger said it was very possible that you'd be seeing a rematch of that game a year from then for the national title. The hype started right then. Definitely the most hyped OSU team I've been around for.

Ohio State football: Hyde dismissed from team, sources say
bicranium replied to Jackson1647545504's topic in Dumpster
Meyer and other B1G Leaders division coaches invading ESPN campus today. Obviously, Hyde's suspension is a focal point... some quotes from Urban from various ESPN shows so far this morning... "We have too many issues and that has a role in severity of this discipline and discipline moving forward." "If Carlos Hyde had been charged he would have been dismissed." "I think the average person on the street from what he investigators told me, its nothing, let's move on, there would be no charges. But high profile players obviously represent the university. Anytime you start talking about domestic issues you have to take action." "We have a zero tolerance policy, If you are charged with a domestic issue, you are dismissed from the program. That's just the way I was raised. Society is changed but i don't think athletes should change." On whether or not there should be higher standards for athletes... "Absolutely. You have to be fair because they are humans but they are high profile guys. A lot of times you get all the fringe benefits of being a great athlete, you get your education paid for, you get a chance to do some really amazing things and showcase your God-given talents, but with that becomes enormous responsibility because people watch. Is it fair all the time? No, but I selected to be a coach and players choose to become college football players." "When I saw (Hyde) video, he needs to walk away from that situation. We're taught over and over again to get out of that situation." -

Pretty harsh all things considered but it's one of the main things you don't do under Urban. -

Video to be released later today. Hyde still has to be cleared by Urban. -
