  1. Thanks for hosting this for CR. It was a fun time and much appreciated.
  2. I got the south end of it Sunday as I headed to Tennessee for the Rally in the Slingshot. In Lexington, Kentucky, lightning joined in with the wind and rain. Not the way I wanted to start this adventure. :fuuuu:
  3. Well, I've got the last sponsor decals on the Slingshot (Thanks again to Austin at Lucore, Jordan at Jet Auto Group). http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2015%20Smoky%20Mountains%20Rally/DSCN1367_zps0x2twls4.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2015%20Smoky%20Mountains%20Rally/DSCN1369_zpso7gy9xq1.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2015%20Smoky%20Mountains%20Rally/DSCN1370_zpsppvlkqvx.jpg Brian and Nikki have already left for the Rally and I'll leave Sunday during the night. The two CR teams raised $2,286, and the Rally total is over $110,000 so far. The team fundraising is over and I want to thank everyone for their support. There will still be some general fundraising (charity auctions, for example). The forecast calls for over 50% chance of rain for the next 5 out of 6 days for the locations we will be. Perhaps an ark next time? Special thanks to Hannah at WheelMedic who made decals on short notice for some of our sponsors. Mods, feel free to close this thread, and I'm sure Brian or I will be making a thread with team reports and photos.
  4. One more place to put on the list to cruise to tonight. It's as if we have to hold all the car events on the one day it's sunny and dry. C'ya there.
  5. My appreciation to Jordan and Jet Auto Group, a CR sponsor who has been great to CR and to the many members who use their services to locate and purchase the car of their dreams. Jordan came through with a generous donation. This is the second rally I've done that Jet Auto Group became a corporate-level sponsor for. One day left to fundraise and the rally total is $93,000 for Hope for the Warriors.
  6. Jim (clone), thank you for your generous donation. Hope to see you soon. With Jim's donation, I've hit the team goal of $1,000. Donations can be accepted through Friday evening. I'm grateful to the friends and sponsors of CR who have through the years supported the Rally North America charities. Perhaps some of you didn't realize that Rally North America's co-founder, Scott Spielman from Dayton, has been a CR member since 2008. As of tonight, this rally has raised over $87,000 for Hope for the Warriors. I suspect by kickoff time, it will top $100,000.
  7. I'm not sure if this was one of the threads you were remembering, but I'm still sold on 22PLE for any black car, and for a new car: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110112&highlight=addison For other vehicles, I clay bar then use Griot's Paint Sealant applied with a buffer.
  8. Marc, Thank you for your friendship and support, and again for your generous donation.
  9. Many thanks to Rich Lucore at Lucore Automotive. Besides making a generous donation to Hope for the Warriors, he and his staff hooked me up with some great swag for the charity auction at the Rally. And thanks to Austin for putting this all together. There are still a few days remaining for anyone still wanting to contribute. My team has raised $810 towards a goal of $1,000. Here's the link: http://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=1125309&supId=414974247 And thanks to all those who have provided financial and/or moral support for this effort.
  10. Congrats on your win and good luck!
  11. It looks as though today will be a perfect day for it. I'll see if I can get one of my jalopies to turn over and fire-up.
  12. I've seen it driving around Delaware. Not bad looking from 30 feet, which is as close as I've been to it. Not an easy vehicle to miss.
  13. Your words are not lost on me, JP. I agree that we should make an effort to spend our money on things that can accomplish sustainable good ... get the most "bang" from our buck. I'm sure many people would disapprove of the choices I've made on donating money, just as they disagree with my decisions about things I've bought. But they have all been my choices, and I believe I'll be the one who will have to account for them all, foolish as well as wise. In this case I gave money to a friend trying to show that he can engineer and build a small, "ricer" motor to take on big block V8's. If he asked me for the donation in person, I would have slipped him a C-note just that fast. You think it goes towards his mortgage? I think it pays for another of his shop crew to go to OK. I don't think either belief tells the whole story, and I'm not deluding myself that this money is vaccinating children in Africa or building homes for quake victims in Nepal. I appreciate reading your viewpoint and those of others.
  14. Accelerated built my BRZFRSGT86. Don and his crew are good guys and have treated me well. They don't run on a big budget, so I'm happy to contribute to his effort. If you disapprove of him asking for funding, you have the luxury of not giving.
  15. Thanks for riding, Ben. I know that Zx2guy10, bmwohio, Casper, Farkas, and a few other CR members are regular participants. It's a great way to support a cause. Happy riding!
  16. Perhaps the killer likes to fish. In Ross County that narrows it down to 99% of the adult males.
  17. No, if it's a company name or other text, a friend of mine will make it for you for free.
  18. Yes, that's correct. I don't have any flat surface area of sufficient size for a magnetic sign. On the other hand, we can make a size-appropriate simple vinyl for you. Don't underestimate how much attention this vehicle gets, even in a field of 79 other rally cars. There's a small 7" x 1.5" decal placed along the edge of the body which is one of the first things you notice when you drive by the vehicle or walk up to it.
  19. Because of some of the circumstances, I agree with the recommendations to file the police report and the insurance claim. However, I think you deserve credit for considering not doing those things and just taking a minor loss so that you don't "pile woe upon woe" for the other guy. There are few folks such as you around these days. I think it's difficult to have that attitude in a society increasingly bent on taking advantage of every human kindness.
  20. I understand that the lot was full on Friday, but on Saturday, it just didn't get started. 12 cars, then 6 arrive, 2 leave, 2 arrive, 8 leave........ I left at 10:45 and there might have been 10 cars left. I'm told that at least one police officer on the scene Friday said it was no problem to meet there. It's out by itself, so there's no short walk to get food or drinks. With all the unmowed grass surrounding it and with the wet weather pattern we're in, it wouldn't surprise me if this becomes a mosquito buffet in a week or so. And definitely watch for potholes on the access road coming in.
  21. Congratulations on the new career and on your accomplishments so far. It's a blessing to be able to work in a professional you love.
  22. See you there. Seems like it's been forever since a big meet.
  23. The forecast for tonight is for the rain to stop around dinner, and if that happens, it should be dry tonight. The question: where to go? Sonic @ Polaris: Rumor a month ago was that it was shut down, but people continued to gather there a few more nights. However, last week I stopped by and was promptly run-off by security and told it was off-limits now. Buckeye Raceway: (at 4050 W. Broad, across from Hollywood Casino) There have been some statements that the business wanted to start-up regular Friday and Saturday night meets ..... anyone know if that's happening? E. Broad around the old Lucent Rumor has it that this has been attempted and that popo ran everyone off. Anyone know the facts? It's hard to imagine that all the people who were going to Sonic will just stop meeting up.
  24. Did you have the opportunity to drive either of them? The spider version reminds me so much of the Lotus Elise .... wondering how the two compare on ingress and egress, power, handling. I've read a few road tests, and they seem all over the board regarding impressions. Is there availability on the spider?
  25. I few more donors weighed-in today at the sponsor level: Many thanks to Corey and the fellas at SlowMotion: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2015%20Smoky%20Mountains%20Rally/slomo%20big_zpsfse6cklw.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2015%20Smoky%20Mountains%20Rally/slomo_zpsbzqsmv0f.jpg And heartfelt gratitude for Brian Wagner, CR admin, apparel magnate, and all-around good guy. :fuckyeah: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2015%20Smoky%20Mountains%20Rally/pm%20large_zpsdfb5ihsp.jpg Placed appropriately in a prime position on the SS: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2015%20Smoky%20Mountains%20Rally/pm%20small_zps9l1mbofr.jpg There's still plenty of room for sponsor stickers ($100 donation), but any and all donations to Hope for the Warriors is appreciated.
