  1. Polaris doesn't have a turbo kit out yet, but I understand it's on the way. Numerous owners have slapped a turbo on. I'm told it's pretty straightforward. I imagine I'll wait until it's out of warranty to do much to it.
  2. In California it's registered as a car. Ohio and other states consider it a motorcycle. For a few weeks, it wasn't legal on Texas roads, but now it can be registered there as a motorcycle, too. I will prolly suit-up as if I were riding a motorcycle (including a full face helmet), considering there's nearly no protection and no air bags.
  3. that's what I figure since this got delivered to the Hangout today: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2015%20Polaris%20Slingshot/Pict0041_zpspfwxhk1x.jpg We don't need no stinkin' doors: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2015%20Polaris%20Slingshot/PICT0047_zpsublex5r1.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2015%20Polaris%20Slingshot/PICT0050_zpsgjlvlqjw.jpg 1750 lbs wet weight, GM Ecotec LE9 2.4 inline four, 5-speed stick http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2015%20Polaris%20Slingshot/PICT0060_zpswgl0dht3.jpg We don't need no stickin' fourth wheel http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2015%20Polaris%20Slingshot/Pict0057_zpslrdwcsv9.jpg Final drive by carbon fiber reinforced belt http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2015%20Polaris%20Slingshot/PICT0048_zpslqkdspb6.jpg Linky to today's photos: http://s355.photobucket.com/user/martyr65/library/2015%20Polaris%20Slingshot Many thanks to CR member Derek (ponyjr) who has worked with me on this since early December. Iron Pony has done a great job on every aspect of the sale, and I look forward to continued good experience as their service customer. It's my entry in the Smoky Mountain Rally this July. Wish me luck!
  4. QFT Considering the demographic of Florida, I would expect there to be a gajillion of them that had been kept very well maintained by the dealer for their geriatric owners. Around here, most of them that I see are on the 4th owner and have some problems. Look for a 3800 Series II motor N/A. The paint sun damages easily, so it shouldn't be hard to spot the garage-kept ones. I've seen some in good shape for sale for $1500. I would think nearly the same could be said for the Panther platform cars, but they don't get as good mpg and are more of a tank to park.
  5. This is Clay, folks. Do you seriously think he's going to put down 350-500 bucks for a vacuum?
  6. and yet, taking up two parking spots .....
  7. Eureka Suction Seal - Pet AS1104 A. Available at most Lowes, Sears, on Amazon. $130 if you shop smart. I've used mine for two years and it's the best vacuum I've used at any price. Does a great job with bare wood floors, has a power-roller detachable for cleaning pet hair off upholstery, you can turn the main floor roller off, and it is by far the easiest HEPA filtration system to keep clean/empty.
  8. I think it might have reduced some of the cabin fever most of us have this time of year. I believe there were twenty of us in all, and that many car enthusiasts together will make for a fun time. There was a gray Levi stocking cap left behind. Anyone want to claim it?
  9. Well, the place is open and warm and there's a nice fire in the fireplace. Hope to see you soon.
  10. Paul, sorry, there is no cable or wifi at the Hangout.
  11. Heat's on. I'll have the front door open around 9:00 p.m. Drive carefully and bundle up -- that wind's brisk! Please knock the snow off your boots in the entryway so people aren't sitting on wet carpet.
  12. Okey dokey. We'll plan on it. Drive carefully everyone -- I look forward to seeing the crew again. Seems like forever since we've had a meet.
  13. I'm happy to open the Hangout if CR members want to come. Saturday works fine for me, but I'm not sure the weather wants to cooperate. As of Friday morning, here is the forecast for Delaware: Saturday 70% Precip. / < 1 in Windy with occasional snow showers. High 28F. Winds WNW at 25 to 35 mph. Chance of snow 70%. Snow accumulations less than one inch. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph. Saturday Night 20% Precip. / 0 in A few clouds from time to time. Gusty winds diminishing after midnight. A few flurries or snow showers possible. Low near -5F. Winds NNW at 20 to 30 mph. Are you sure you want to come out in snow with wind gusts over 40 mph and a low temp of -5 ? My drive is only 5 minutes, so it's not a problem for me, but consider that the roads could be hazardous. Let me know by Saturday afternoon so I can have at least the clinic area toasty warm for everyone. I don't expect the garage section will be much above 50 with the cold and wind. Of course, this is a weather forecast we're considering here, so I'm not betting the farm that it will turn out that way.
  14. That's a strategy if you're trying to side-step the tier restrictions, but there are plenty of rules to tech just to make a run. And your fee isn't refundable even if you're not allowed to run. Also, when you make a run well above your safety class limit, your time isn't announced and you don't get a time slip. You very likely won't find out what you ran.
  15. I haven't received my copy of the 2015 rule book yet, so I can't say for sure. However, my guess is that the rules will be the same for the 1/2 mile as for the mile. If that's the case, it's not too bad: the mph's will be a lot lower for the 1/2 mile, and the safety tiers are set progressively stricter at 135, 150, and so forth. If your car's going to be going 175 in the half mile, you really should have all the extra safety equipment IMO. For all the mile runs, the wheel/lug length/lug nut rules have been hard for me to meet, and I suppose those will stay in effect in the 1/2 mile. Wheel Medic helped me make spec on those for the Viewt and the 86. My fastest car is perma-banned from ECTA events, so I don't have that to fret about. When I get my rule book in about a week or so, I'll post better answers to this thread. These Maxton guys are strict, and they make no apologies for it.
  16. Daniel (integramadmax) http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/member.php?u=8479 is the TV guru on CR. He owns a TV warranty service business. I suggest you PM him and ask his opinion. I'm not sure if he's alerted to PM's on CR or not, and he doesn't log-in often, so if you don't hear in a day or so, contact me and I'll give you his cell number. He's been a big help to me.
  17. Impressive video. Keep in mind that the East Coast Timing Association will be hosting its first ever HALF-mile event July 11-12 in Wilmington, Ohio. I suspect that this event will fill quickly, so if you quarter-mile champs are interested in stretching your legs a bit, better start the registration process now. It would be great to have a CR contingent in the field. They are continuing their certification of The Ohio Mile this year as well. 18. Sounds as though you might be better staying off the interstates when there's "weather," or perhaps, better yet, call-in sick. When you've had over 40 years' worth of accident-free driving and drive >150 miles daily as I do, then I might take your criticism seriously. You need to drive within the limits of your equipment (e.g., snow tires) and your ability. If you can't do that safely in the flow of traffic, get somewhere where you can drive comfortably without impeding the flow. I'm sure the person driving 40 mph today in the left lane of I-71 (which was wet, but not icy) felt he was just trying to "be safe." From my experience, there are times when trying to play it safe is the most dangerous thing you can do.
  19. Just drove from Delaware to Circleville. Roads were fine ... but the drivers were beyond terrible. 40 mph on I-71.
  20. Well-written with great pics, too.
  21. another big plus for Nick. He's always been a great help to me whenever I've asked. He's very knowledgeable.
  22. Top quality work, and they work efficiently because they know these cars. I believe they are a good value. They aren't cheap, but they charge honestly and fairly. They also take a very thorough look at the car and do careful quality control to make sure things are done right the first time. They do my pre-rally inspections, and I wouldn't trust that to anyone else.
  23. You would have a hard time finding a better place than North End Wrench. Crossle (Sean) here is their lead tech. http://www.thenorthendwrench.com/
