  1. My memory may not be as sharp as I think. I know the torque number was close to 300. The iron head cars got a cam that was more appropriate to getting one of these big cars moving. HP number was probably closer to 250.
  2. I've hated the thought of this day. But it's time. With the new(ish) truck on the way I need to thin down my collection. Since they started advertising these in 1993 I have been in love, and I hate to see it go. Once the race car started eating my fun budget this has gone by the wayside. 1994 Impala SS 167,000 Miles Black (only color available in 94) Gray leather interior 5.7 LT1 The only mods I have done to it are upgrading the sway bars, and installing lower control arms. I did rig up a janky cold air intake, but I have all the parts needed to return the car to bone stock down to the original stock floor mats. Viper remote start installed up at Pickups Plus as well. Tint was installed at Dyno Brians, but has started to bubble and could stand to be removed. The car went on Dyno Brians dyno once just for shits and giggles. The car made almost 300HP and 300Ft/lbs. Car is speed limited to 120, but that's just a PCM tweak away from being removed. MY brother in law took it to one of the track days at Trails, if I recall correctly it ran high 15s low 16s. Honestly, it's a big comfy boat of a car with some guts. It needs some TLC and a set of tires, probably a couple of other things, but it's mainly ready for someone to drive it and give it some love. I won't bother with haggling here, so I'll just put it up for $4,000. I know that's a touch over KBB, but these never sell for those values. Check autotrader or even Crazylist, you won't find one like this for less than that. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=442&pictureid=3341 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=442&pictureid=3339
  3. That doesn't look completely terrible to me. The flats where the tires sit are dished with an edge all the way around to keep the tires from sliding or rolling off. With the other end of the car chocked I think that would be reasonably secure. Having the bottle jacks attached to the bottoms of the ramps gives them a pretty decent footprint, at least as wide as a jack stand. Then the pins to keep the bottle jacks from collapsing make it look okay to me. I cant see if there is a horizontal brace toward the tops of the bottle jack. My concern would be sideways motion could cause the jacks to tip side to side. If there was a brace to keep the jacks from moving... It would be more appealing to me if the ramp portion of assembly detached to get them out of the way once the car is lifted. I'd still probably use jack stands before I crawled under the car though.
  4. You can go wireless or wired, you just need a Roku or something similar to access the box. It does work well over the Wifi here at the house. My wife wanted a TV in the kitchen so she could watch football and such while cooking. I put up an old LCD TV I had and a roku and it works great. I watch a few TV shows that are on regular TV, so this saves me having to wait a year or so for them to pop up on Netflix. It was a little pricey to set up, but I figure within a few months it had payed for itself in what it was saving me on DirecTV.
  5. My wife's 2000 Tundra is up for sale. 227,000 on the clock. Runs good, but cosmetically is a little rough. Frame was replaced by Toyota, so all the rust is cosmetic. V8, 4x4, tow package. I used it on and off to tow my race trailer. It did okay, but not great. I towed my Camaro on a flat bed and it towed like a champ. $4500. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=590&pictureid=8785 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=590&pictureid=8782 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=590&pictureid=8784 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=590&pictureid=8783
  6. I picked up a Honda XR100 for a pit bike but it's not going to work for me. I grabbed a doodle bug couple weeks ago. The XR is just a little too big to fit in the trailer with the car loaded. Basic XR100 no mods, just a simple fun bike. When I bought it I took it into school. Our RPM teacher used to be a factory tech and went over the bike and we took care of a few minor things. She's ready to ride (although she'd be a bitch to start in this weather). He tells me these sell regularly for $1100 to $1300 around here. I'll take $900 for a CR member. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=590&pictureid=8781
  7. Sports seems to be everyone's sticking point. A couple years ago we cut the cord. I went with the Tablo for an over the air DVR and I love it. I pay $50/year for guide service for that. I plugged a 2TB drive into it and it's been awesome. Since it connects to your network you can watch TV on your PC/Tablet/Phone/Whatever. I also picked up Roku 3s for the TVs so they can get the TV feed as well. With the Rokus that gives us Netflix and Amazon on the TVs too. That has worked well for me. My wife is the sports nut in the house and that wasn't getting it for her, so she signed up for SlingTV. That seems to be a decent option to cover sports. It has a bunch of other channels as well. I'm not real impressed personally. Much of the time you cannot fast forward (although you can pause and rewind). You get pretty consistent commercials. Limited playback, almost like regular TV without a DVR. I may look next year into some of the Roku sports channels like the NHL network or NFL. I'm pretty happy with what I have, but sports will probably be your sticking point regardless of what you do.
  8. Or course I'm not a lawyer, but I'll add my $.02 Make sure he does what the doctors prescribe. I sat on a jury a while back. Dude was in an accident, went to the ER, ignored doctors recommendations, went back to the ER a few days later for more pain meds, continued ignoring doctors recommendations and started going to a chiropractor. Was suing for everything. I thought the injuries were bullshit, and the chiropractors testimony was laughable. We awarded him the cost of the first ER visit because it's a good idea to get checked out. Once he stopped following the doctors instructions we figured he was on his own.
  9. A friend of mine is looking for another mechanic or two. He has a smallish independent shop. I don't know what he's like to work for, but I know him as a good guy. Skip's Service Center on McKinley near the 670 overpass. Versatile Mechanic/Tech Needed Cars/Trucks/Boats/Motorhomes Minimum 5 years experience Must have own tools Full or Part Time, Monday-Friday Benefits package Contact Skip at 614-274-3364
  10. I had bamboo put down in my office at the house. I love it. You cannot nail it though, it will just split, it must be stapled.
  11. If you are going to hit the 9s in the quarter then it's time to go big or go home. Unless you are talking about 9s in the eighth, and then it's easy. I would talk with Dyno Brian here on the board. He's my go to guy about LS and boost information. If I recall correctly I remember him saying that the 4.8 would make the most power under boost because of the shorter stroke and lighter rotating assembly would allow the motor to spin much faster therefore making more boost. It's counter intuitive, but makes a certain amount of sense to me. Add E85 to the mix and I would guess your goals are doable. Another resource would me Mark Carlyle here, he's been known to make some boost with an LS and his car is kinda fast. Remember to set back some money for your safety gear. Big boost on corn in a fast car = some heavy duty safety.
  12. I'm gonna say turbo 5.3, but there are some pretty mean old school small blocks out there too.
  13. Looks cool. He's already at double the goal.
  14. Yeah, I want this. When and where? Been needing a pit bike.
  15. Nope. Nothing I know of. Just some of the standard things you would expect from a 23 year old car.
  16. I know this doesn't fit your criteria. But it's a land yacht, parts are plentiful and they can be very reliable. Mine is a lazy boy recliner surrounded by a car.
  17. I assume you found someone. If not my wife is very interested in this.
  18. I picked up a spare pair of slicks at Jegs a while back. They have been in my way since I got them and I'm finally tired enough of them I just want them gone. They are used, I do not know if they hold air or not, I have no mounted them on wheels. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=590&pictureid=8743 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=590&pictureid=8744 They are big bastards, you won't be able to fit them in a trunk. Free to anyone on CR who wants them.
  19. I sat in on a lecture a while back about oil. The presentation was by 2 mechanical engineers with Valvoline. A lot of what they said went directly over my head, but I did learn that the guys designing these systems know a whole lot more about how they work than I do. There is way more to know about oil than I ever will. I don't see the advantage with going against manufacturer recommendations. I will agree though that not all oil is the same. Look for the industry seal on the back of the bottle. A lot of house brands do not have the seal and therefore do not meet the minimum requirements set forth by the automakers. Now, once you modify the system, all bets are off. But for a stock motor, I'm going to assume I'm not smarter than the guys who designed the damn thing.
