  1. If nothing else I would file a report of the theft. I probably would cancel my credit cards too. They have been out of your possession for enough time to be copied or at least information recorded from them. Also you may have had personal information in your wallet that someone could use for identity theft. If crap comes up in the future at least you'll have a police report to go back to that your wallet was stolen, and possibly a face for the police to investigate.
  2. I'll join the bandwagon on Rob's logo. I would probably not do the "Should be better" and substitute a quote. I always get comments when I wear my Redhook beer t-shirt with the Ben Franklin quote on the back "Beer is proof that god loves us and wants us to be happy". I have no idea if it's true or not, but it gets comments.
  3. 95 LT1 Camaro. Mods ..... everything short of an LS1 swap, but all mods are LT1 style components, eg MSD Opti and coil with a new stock ignition module. Hey guys, I wanted to run this past the group and see what the consensus would be. Last spring we finished putting the Camaro back together after swapping the trans and rear. To get the new trans in the engine had to come out. After getting it all back together and everything reconnected, the engine would not crank and the ground strap running from the drivers side head to the frame became very hot. When that ground strap was disconnected the car started and ran. Fast forward to this fall. I saw battery charge issues all summer, the car would not start strong, jumping it was difficult, etc... it's obvious there is something electrical going on and things are just not right. Took it out to school again and we put it up on the rack. The students noticed that with the engine running there was some arcing between the exhaust and the frame. When the engine is cranking we are seeing between 1 and 3 volts between the engine block and ground (not steady, somewhat random). We've been over the wiring and the best we can tell there are no wires incorrectly connected, rubbing, shorting, etc... We suspect the starter may be shorting internally and routing partial main power to the block. Any ideas? Cliffs: Car will not crank with ground strap connected and ground strap heats up quickly. Car will run without ground strap, but has other electrical gremlins. Block is being electrified.
  4. I was trying to come up with some ideas for a graphic, but CR is a pretty diverse group. A lot of us drag race, but their are road racers and autocross folks too. Maybe concentrate on a slogan or quote that would be universal. From Brainyquote.com I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered. - George Best When you are fitted in a racing car and you race to win, second or third place is not enough. - Ayrton Senna From http://www.wediditforlove.com/techtalk16.html "Don’t lift unless you smell shit or hear glass break." Sean Bellemeur "After the third flip, I lost control............" - Don Roberts One last one from http://www.gofastnews.com/showthread.php/705-Racing-quotes "Aerodynamics are for people who cannot build engines." - Enzo Ferrari
  5. You could always pull it and strip it down, then decide whether to rebuild or replace. I'd have a plan ready to go for both of those options before starting so you don't spend a lot of time with the engine out getting things done. I still think tearing it down you'll find more problems than you want to deal with.
  6. I might check it out. What are the rules/limitations on this?
  7. We drug the tree out of the basement this morning and I got it all put together and the lights working. I'm not sure what all Carol is planning on doing this year to decorate. At least she's not as big a scrooge this year as she has been in the past.
  8. My $0.02 You can rent firearms at many of the ranges. You can try something new every time you shoot until you find what you want. Just buy enough ammo for that session and not get stuck with extra you can't use. .22LR will be a nice cheap way to plink at a range and not have to think about the fact that every time you pull the trigger you just spent a quarter, or every clip is $2.50. My 7.62 is fun to shoot, but I can't shake the thought that each clip is more than $10, which means I don't have to shoot much to make for an expensive afternoon. Cheap isn't quite as fun, but in the long run you will shoot more. One of my favorite sig lines from a gun forum is "I thought my rifle was chambered for .338 Lapua, I've realized it's actually chambered for five dollar bills". At $5 a trigger pull I doubt I would shoot at all. If you want to shoot year round you need something you can shoot at an indoor range. Most indoor ranges either do not allow rifles or only allow .22s. I've not had a whole lot of fun shooting a rifle at an indoor range. Pistols are all I shoot indoor. I have a 9mm H&K and love it. My brother in law has a .22lr S&W. There have been times I have been jealous of what it costs him for an afternoon of plinking. You don't need muzzle velocity or stopping power to knock a beer can off a fence row, just some skill.
  9. I loved the comment that "she was doing fine on her own". When you're taking thousands of dollars in cash assistance, you are not "on your own". I'm generally in the camp of not limiting peoples right to live their life the way they want to, but when that persons choices become a burden on society I believe they should loose some of their rights. If you want society to make sacrifices on your behalf, then you need to make sacrifices too. I really don't know what the solution is to stupidity. I do believe a parent convicted of child abuse should be sterilized immediately. She was on the borderline of child abuse in my opinion. I say that only because she was not adequately providing for them, not actively beating them. Ask me for help, and I probably will. Order me to help and you can kiss my ass.
  10. Looks like the set I have. I'd jump on it if I didn't already have one.
  11. Put red prothane motor mounts in the camaro and noticed more vibration, we switched to a red prothane trans mount and I noticed even more vibration. That is the limit to my input. Car sometimes feels like it's about ready to rattle apart.
  12. What about Raymond Memorial? They have a banquet room and Schmidts does the catering. It's a city course, not private so the cost may be lower.
  13. I did the autotrix on mine when I had the motor replaced. Not sure if I notice a difference or not since the motor was shot before.
  14. Given those two choices I would probably do a junkyard motor as long as it has a warranty on it (30 days should be good). Tearing it apart for a rebuild is likely to uncover more problems than you may want to mess with for a beater. Or you could just keep driving it. If the oil burning doesn't bother you to much then just leave it be and live with it.
  15. I've been kicking around ideas myself. Think about what you know about her and look for something she would enjoy. When it comes to christmas gifts I like to get people something they would enjoy, not necessarily something practical. For Carol I am thinking right now about a windshield for her motorcycle which I know she wants, but can't afford. My other option would be a small carry size pistol. She enjoys shooting, but has never owned her own pistol. Not much help for you though because we're talking about two different women. One idea I always liked was when my father had a large gift for my mother wrapped very fancy. When she opened it there were half a dozen smaller boxes all wrapped the same as the big box. I don't think any of the gifts were very expensive, but the presentation was memorable.

  17. How much freeway driving are you going to do with the truck? How many miles per year will you drive it? My assumption is not a lot. Something tells me that the overdrive won't make a serious impact on the total cost of driving the truck per year. I'd go with which ever one your trans shop says is more reliable. I don't think a new drive shaft would cost that much. Here is a question I was just thinking about. You're rear end has a standard yoke for a u-joint, and that 4 speed top loader has a standard yoke for a u-joint. That would mean the drive shaft would not have any way to slip back and forth. I think this would put an unacceptable level of stress on the u-joints and drive shaft overall since it has to be an exact fixed length at all times. I assume one end needs to be able to move a little to compensate for temp and chassis flex while driving.
  18. I use AVG. It's free and a decent scanner, doesn't bog my system down like Norton and McAfee do. Google "Free AVG", there is a 30 day free trial to, but for personal use get the totally free version. http://www.cleanpcguide.com/remove-zinkwink-com-removal-guide-how-to-remove-zinkwink-com/
  19. I have a friend who is out of work right now, living is assisted housing. She can't afford a cell phone which is a must while job searching, but she can afford her puffy treats. At least she has no kids or pets to deal with, and she is the only one who directly suffers for her decisions.
  20. I thought about buying a 220 compressor, but I decided to get a 110. It does what I want at a lower price and is pretty convenient since I just plug it in to any outlet. If need be I can move it to anywhere and just plug it in or run an extension cord. I like that flexibility and the lower price of the 110. Since I'm not a mechanic and spend most of my time just monkeying around it works well for me. I don't think mine would run a grinder though, so I just bought an electric. It has worked well so far for the impact gun, air ratchet and my air finish nailer.
  21. You're welcome to stop by and check mine out. It's a medium sized craftsman unit that came packaged with an impact gun and air ratchet. It worked well when I did the LT1 tear down and works well for all the little jobs I do.
  22. This thread is making me want to do a t56 swap into my Impala SS. Good luck, I'm looking forward to seeing how this all comes together.
  23. I may be a GM guy, but I like the looks of your car. Any goodies under the hood? Oh, and welcome.
