  1. We'll we've hit yet another wall with the 9" swap into Camaro. Maybe she really doesn't want a ford design as part of the drive train. Anyhow, all the new brake lines are fabbed, installed and seem to be ready to go. Tried to bleed the new brake lines with a power bleeder. Front brakes bleed no problem, pedal is nice and stiff, plenty of pressure. Open up the bleeders on the new lines in the rear and nothing is there. As far as we can tell the pressure to the rear lines is being held up at the ABS module. I was getting an ABS light on the dash before we started and we ignored it because ABS is going away on this car. The new rear end does not have the hardware to support ABS, and since it's a good weather/track toy I don't care about ABS. Does anyone have any ideas why the ABS module would be cutting pressure off from the rear brakes? My understanding is even if you unplug it all, then the valves would still stay open so a car without power would still have brakes. I don't know how the module works, so I'm stumped. An option we are considering is to remove the ABS module all together and just plumb the brakes straight to the master cylinder. I'm trying to avoid this in the interest of time to get the car ready for the track day next Friday, but it's looking less and less likely that we'll be able to get the problems worked out and get it done. Oh, car is a 95 Chevy Camaro. OBD1 computer. The only mods to the brake system are new calipers off an LS1 Camaro, line lock, and the new brake lines on the 9" rear end.
  2. With my LT1 I never completely lost oil pressure, but I ended up with spun bearings (rod and main). I came to the conclusion that the machine work was going to be almost as much as a rebuilt short block. I chose Golen Engine Service for my short block, they do LS motors as well. http://www.golenengineservice.com/engines/ls-engines/ls-short-blocks/ If you can swing some extra cash for your rebuild you could pick up a lot. They have an LSx 454 with all forged internals for $7000. I know that is a lot more than you are talking about, but they have many combinations.
  3. Sounds like it would be a blast. No chance I could make that time commitment though. Even in the summer that would be a problem for me with grad school, house, dogs, etc... Good luck though, hope you make an assload of money. I could probably break a weekend free and come out and help though if needed.
  4. Cool, thanks for the info guys. I know he loves the car, that's really all that matters. I had a hunch this really would not be the project car he's been talking about. I'll pass along what you guys are telling me. Thanks.
  5. Back in college I had a buddy sucker me into going to one of those meetings. We weren't friends much longer.
  6. I assume who I'm looking for here is Jones. I know jack shit about imports. My neighbor just bought an 05 Audi S4 Quatro. It has the 4.2 V8 and a standard trans. It's just a toy for playing around with, some time in the future he will probably boost it. As for now he has very little cash left for mods. Since I'm the neighborhood motor head he came to me first. What are the popular level 1 must do mods for a car like this? Also, what forums or sites should I recommend to him for information on what people are doing to these cars? Thanks guys.
  7. Looks like Carol and I will be there.
  8. Not saying it's a good idea, but I have heard of guys using JBweld between the CPU and heat sink. What processor socket are you attaching to? I may have some odds and ends in my bins of leftover parts.
  9. I actually did LOL at this post. Good gag Clay. Although I think Caffeine and Gasoline kicks ass. My first thought reading this was to start showing up at their meets and doing big, super, huge smoky burnouts and get them kicked out of their meet spot.
  10. Now that would be a worthy ROI.
  11. Awesome intro. I'm not much of a ford guy, but the 3rd gen Camaro is one of my favorites. Nice bikes too.
  12. +1 How could anyone possibly not like boobs?
  13. My thought on any device that takes or makes a measurement I won't buy at harbor freight. I just don't trust the accuracy. I mean, why measure something with a device that you don't trust to be reasonably accurate? Where are you guys getting your wrenches calibrated, and how much does it normally cost? My craftsman is over 10 years old and I never knew you could get them calibrated. Sounds like it would be worth it.
  14. I probably won't make this one, but if I am there I'll be rocking the civic of doom (Wagner's description).
  15. I only have 3 air tools, but it was a package set and they have been great. 1/2 impact 3/8 ratchet hammer But there are a small slew of other little attachments that are as handy air chuck for tires blow gun for cleaning (mine has an extend-able wand) etc... The neighborhood kids are always coming to me to fill bike tires, basketballs, etc... so I keep all the inflation tools handy in the tool box. A portable air tank is a nice thing to have around too.
  16. I was going to recommend harbor freight too. But then I realized you wanted a bench vice, not a lump of shit closely resembling a tool used to hold work in place and mounted to a work bench.
  17. Back when it was on TV I watched a few episodes of Robotech and enjoyed them. Was always a little sorry I never went back and followed the story all the way though. Now that I have netflix I'm doing just that. Vampire Hunter D and Appleseed were my favorites when I was watching.
  18. I'm a fan of propane injection. Turn it off when not hauling anything and you don't need the extra power, and once you're loaded turn it on and enjoy.
  19. This sounds interesting. I saw the pic with the lightning running, so I guess the USS ImpalaSS would do okay since we put new shocks, sway bars, control arms, etc... on it last year. I'll call down to the engine room and see what they say.
  20. Looks similar to the videos I found on youtube for making rocket motors. I may have to give this a try sometime.
  21. +1, we go there every now and again. It is good, but Joey Chang's is better.
  22. That's some funny shit. Nope, not packed, just piled.
  23. Not sure if your question is a serious one based on the rest of the thread. But I would say you could fill a full sized dump trailer with it. I wouldn't even hazard a guess at the number of cubic yards. They are giving it away though, so the pile is getting smaller. My thought was if someone had a good size garden and wanted a truckload of good natural fertilizer. Seriously, they have a kubota tractor with a front loader. If you have a trailer or want to haul a pickup truck load they will load it for you.
