The next 6-8 weeks are going to suck ass for me and my wife.
Richard Cranium replied to Buck531's topic in Dumpster
Glad to hear things are starting to turn around a bit. As an idea to start planning ahead, you might want to think now about what you're going to do when his leg starts itching. As a kid I used a metal clothes hanger once and I scratched the skin pretty badly, I was just lucky it didn't get infected. It has to be a common problem, maybe the doctor has some ideas what you could use. -
And I wish people would quit blindly listening to the conservative media, it's just as far off base. At some schools union membership is mandatory, but I can tell you for a fact that not all schools are because I teach at one. I am not compelled to be a member in any way. I choose to be a member because I want the legal counsel the union provides. My school chooses to shoot first and ask questions later if any allegations are made against a teacher. And we can change schools without going to the bottom of the pay scale, normally there is a drop since most schools won't recognize more that 10 years experience though. As for over educating people, there is some sense to that statement. But who do you propose we start deliberately under educating? Should we start with the inner city? Do those kids deserve less of an education because their families are poorer? I think any kid who wants and education and is willing to work for it should have one. Kids can't choose who their parents will be. Do you really want to hamstring them from birth just because their parents don't have money? Every parent I've ever met wants more for their kids than they had themselves. The traditional route to that is education. Education gives a kid options. With the right education he can choose to be a professional, or he can choose to be a day laborer. Without the education he has no options. I say give every kid the option and the ones who want to better themselves can. Maybe you want politicians in control of police, fire and education. I for one don't because I don't trust the bastards. When they start writing laws that apply to everyone but themselves I have a problem with that. Hell, Kasich defended the pay raises for his staff by saying that if you want good qualified people in the job you have to be willing to pay them. While I didn't go into teaching for the money, if you want mediocre firefighters, police and teachers be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. If I have to go take a part time job to make ends meet it will have a substantial negative effect in my classroom.

There are way more good teachers out there than bad. I wish people would see that the media only highlights the worst of the worst. They talk about the one plane that crashes, but won't mention the 10,000 that landed safely. When all you hear is bad it makes it pretty easy to classify everyone as bad. Are there teachers out there who have given up? Of course there are. You can find those people in all walks of life, regardless of occupation. Someone can only be beaten down by the system so much before they give up. For some people its less than others. Between constantly changing standards, high stakes testing and boiling everything down to an easily quantifiable number we are moving from a system that teaches kids how to think and learn to a system that caters to the good test takers. A buddy of mine used to use the phrase "A fish rots from the head down". Before picking up the pitchforks and torches and going after teachers try taking a look at the administration and the government leadership. We can try to change things, but they are the ones who have the power to enact change. In answer to the question, no I don't teach in Hilliard. However I do live in Hilliard, pay Hilliard taxes and I do teach some Hilliard students. I teach at the career center that Hilliard and 6 other districts feed students to. I support our students by providing all the customer service work I can. I trust our students and teachers with my cars, my dogs, and my well being when I eat the food they cook, or drive the car they fixed. We've got some of the best teachers I know of, and if I had a choice to move to a higher paying school I probably would not.

I just caught this thread, and I'm not quite sure where to start. I've seen things from both sides of the fence. I worked in the IT field for 8 years, I've now been a teacher for 10 years. I'm close to finishing my masters degree in education administration. When I do I'll start working toward my principals license. There are a number of things I've read tonight that I do agree with, and a lot I don't. I'll be happy to answer any questions people want to ask, I'd rather see people get accurate information than the shit that gets spread around the internet and in the Columbus Disgrace. As for a couple of the comments I have read. If you think a teacher is a middle man between a book and a student then you've never met a good teacher. Besides, who taught you to read that book? Is the teachers job to spoon feed kids? Or should I help them learn the information for themselves? Should I help them become self sufficient? Should I teach them how to learn, so later they can pick up a book and learn on their own? Another post talked about uniforms. My program was a uniformed program years before my school went uniform. My students maintain a neat appearance. I give no "extra credit". Complete the work I give you when I give it to you and you won't need extra credit. Anyone who thinks I only work 9 months a year has no clue what they are talking about. Anyone who thinks I only work 6 hours a day has no clue what they are talking about. We pay for our insurance, and we pay into our retirement. I refuse to be a GOP scapegoat to cover up poor management of our government. I'm going to wrap this up because it's past my bed time. It takes more energy, patience and concentration than anyone would ever believe to be effective in the classroom. Now if I could just get the damn politicians to get out of my fucking way and just let me do my damn job I'd be happy again.

Ignition key for a 2000 Toyota Tundra
Richard Cranium replied to Richard Cranium's topic in Tech and Tips
Sounds like we need to make a point to bring it by and have you check the frame out. She loves her truck, and with the price of the new ones we need this one to last as long as we can. -
Ignition key for a 2000 Toyota Tundra
Richard Cranium replied to Richard Cranium's topic in Tech and Tips
Worked like a charm. I had to go to four different places till I found a place that had the blank in stock. But finally Home Depot had the blank on hand. $1.90 later I have a spare key for the truck. I appreciate the info Rocky. Oh, and yeah, we did get the frame inspected a couple years back. I think it was the spare tire mount they were looking at. Something about it rusting through and dumping the spare tire loose into traffic. -

The last guy was the best. I think I saw pigtails come out the side of his head while he was screaming like a little girl and pissing his pants. -
Ignition key for a 2000 Toyota Tundra
Richard Cranium replied to Richard Cranium's topic in Tech and Tips
Thanks for checking Scott, that's why I was trying to avoid the dealership. I'm assuming that by the time it's all said and done I'm into it for $100 including cutting and programming. Rocky, thanks for the information and the offer. Since I'm in Hilliard I think I'll just chance it and try getting a regular key cut. With what it would cost me to drive over there in gas it's worth a shot. If that doesn't end up working for me I'll be getting in touch with you. -
Since the track day has been cancelled, I'm in.

When Carol bought her truck it was a repo and the bank only had 1 key for it. I stopped by sears yesterday to get a couple backup keys made and they told me the key is chipped. I was looking on the internet for blanks that include the transponder and I'm coming up empty. I can find non-transponder key blanks all over the place, but none with transponders. Does the 2000 Tundra need a chipped key? If so, anyone have a hookup on where to get one? I'd hate to get raped by the dealer on a key, but I'd hate more to loose this one and find out I have to buy a new ECU/key combination.

I'm in for a last last. I assume you're talking 11/5?

How did the tear down go? Wish I could have made it over, I enjoyed tearing down my LT1.

Solid state drives are amazing if you can fit one in your budget. I upgraded an old laptop a while back with one. Boot time in the single digit seconds and added battery life since they have no moving parts. RAM is also a must.

I had mine done by Performance Powdercoating. He charged me a couple extra bucks to strip them down and put them back together. Was worth it to me not to have to screw with it.

Looks like Sunday is supposed to be decent. Trails is posting a test and tune on their website, so they should be open. I may try and make it out.

THIS!

That sucks, I finally have the car up and running again and was looking forward to making some passes.

Apple iPhone 4s Goes to Apple Farm & Pumpkin Patch
Richard Cranium replied to TTQ B4U's topic in The Digital Darkroom
Tim, did you do any Photoshopping of those images? Or are those as is downloaded from the phone and adding the watermark? If you did do some Photoshopping what kinds of things did you need to do to get that much color and contrast out of them? -
I might be able to stop by, but I think we have a Halloween party to go to that night. If you're stripping down the motor that night make sure to have have several plastic tubs for parts in several sizes. I like using zip-lock freezer bags too since I can write on them with a sharpy. And last but not least a digital camera will be your friend when you put it all back together (assuming you took pictures of everything when you took it apart). I have a tray you can borrow that is laid out for taking apart heads if you want. Little bins for rockers, springs, retainers, valves, push-rods, lifters, etc... Keeps everything in order so you know you can put it back exactly where it came from.

Registration for CR Fall '11 Drag Day is up!
Richard Cranium replied to MrMeanGreen's topic in CR Track Days
In and paid. -
RPM only offered me $800 for the core charge on mine when I bought the new one. Since it was working perfectly when we pulled it I decided to keep it and see what opportunities came around. I thought about swapping it into my LT1 Impala.
-
Damn, who's offering $1500 for a stock t56 from a 95 Camaro? I have mine sitting in my garage wondering what I'm going to do with it. The auto will probably gain you a little time at the track, but I enjoy shifting mine. I did a swap, but for a level 5 t56 from RPM. I say keep the stick, enjoy banging gears.

Carol and I are heading out in a couple minutes.
