After a closer look at this, it appears that the SAIGA shotguns are the 'target' of this new study. Notice the (8) and (9) features that are not "sporting" features and may prevent the shotguns from being imported. (8) is Excessive weight and (9) is Excessive bulk. I think that the Saiga 12 shotguns have "excessive bulk" by their new definitions! The Saiga measures 4.25" from bottom of trigger guard to top of dust cover. I measured a new Benelli and it measures a hiar under 4" at it's "deepest" section. Buy a Saiga now if you want one!

I wonder if this means that the Saiga 12's might be able to be imported WITH a pistol grip since it seems to be accepted as "sporting" for shotguns??? That would be nice.

Get your Saiga 12 drum magazines while you still can. http://www.atf.gov/publications/firearms/012611-study-on-importality-of-certain-shotguns.pdf

I think you have to have a store front (or separated portion of your house) to become a dealer with an FFL01. You at least have to be able to show that you are really a dealer and not just someone who wants to build a personal collection, as the others have already mentioned. You must also store your personal firearms separately from the 'business' firearms inventory. It's not cheap either and there is quite a bit of paper work that YOU are required to store until your license expires, at which it must be sent to the BATFE. To get Class 3 SOT(Special Occupational Tax) status, you need to have either a dealer or manufacturer FFL and then pay $500 each year in addition to the FFL fees. I imagine that there are some more hoops to jump through and plenty of waiting to obtain the Class 3 SOT status, as well.

Suppressors are fairly affordable ($250-$1000 depending on application) but still require the one time $200 transfer tax to be paid to the federal government and you will still need to pay the Class 3 dealer fees to complete the Form 4. And then the months of waiting. Your least expensive route to get into full auto guns is to buy a M-10 or M-11 which can be found for $3000-$4000 plus tax stamp and dealer fees. And don't forget the ammo...LOTS and LOTS of ammo...

Are you just trying to buy an NFA toy? If so, there is no FFL or 'license' required. When you buy such a toy, you will fill out certain forms, provide finger prints, etc., get permission from local law enforcement chief, pay the $200 tax stamp and pay a qualified Class 3 dealer (or dealers if out of State purchase) to do the transfer. This process takes several months AFTER you buy the toy. Edit: Scroll down on this page to find better instructions... http://www.impactguns.com/store/howtoorder.html If you want to become a Class 3 dealer, that's an entirely different subject!

If you are set on one of the three that you have listed, I'd go with the Super Sniper. The only drawback with that one is that it's a fixed 20x magnification and you may or may not like that much at 100 yds. It will be great for 300+yds. though. Fixed magnification is simple and less prone to mechanical problems. The fact that the Sightmark has such a huge range of adjustment on magnification could be a concern and the Mueller may not have enough magnification for 300+yds. (personal preference). The Mueller's objective lens is a little large for my taste, as well.

I like the larger 30mm tube diameter of the SS and the sightmark What rifle are you putting this on and are you using it for only daytime shooting? If you plan on using in lower light conditions, the amount of light transmitted by the optics is much more important. Also, the larger objective lens is going to limit how low you can mount the optic, if that is a concern.

hi capactiy magazine ban introduced... http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/01/18/arizona.shooting/index.html?hpt=T2 I don't think this will actually happen, but here we go again...

Cosmoline melts at a low temperature and can be removed with a little heat. It's easy to do in the summer just buy leaving it out in the sun on a rack or on something that will absorb the cosmoline. A hair dryer might help. You should hang onto the original parts in case you ever want to re-sell the rifle. It's MUCH easier to sell an original matching rifle than one with aftermarket parts.

+1 The 3.5 disconnector is a cheap DIY item that makes a decent improvement to the standard Glock trigger.

Potassium chloride is water soluble. Water is the cheapest and easiest way to flush out the salts that can lead to corrosion.

Hopefully they'll do it with fertilizer and kerosene so that the liberals don't have another 'event' to try to create more gun control.:bangbang:

You won't be disappointed with an AR15. They are reliable as long as you keep the bolt carrier lubed and they are accurate shooters with low recoil. Non corrosive 5.56x45 ammo is readily available and is likely to be available into the foreseeable future. Also, the market is flooded with inexpensive AR15 rifles right now so it's a good time to buy. The Kalashnikov rifles are great at what they are designed for. They will take much more abuse and neglect than an AR15 and still work reliably. This probably isn't very important outside of a battlefield, however. You won't get groups like this with any Kalashnikov but it's fairly easy with an AR15. I shot this 5 round group in the summer with an inexpensive 16" Del-ton rifle with no upgrades and surplus Portuguese 55 gr. ammo. It was only at 50 yds. but it's still satisfying to be able to easily shoot tight groups like this. Shooting golf ball size targets at 100yds is certainly possible with an AR15 and good ammo. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/AR15/FiveShots_July2010_M4_50yds.jpg

The key is how/where you store your dirty firearm after shooting. If you live in an arid climate you can shoot all the corrosive ammo you want and not clean it and probably not have any corrosion issues. If you store your dirty rifle in an environment with more than ~60% humidty, you are asking for problems. No magic, just physics and chemistry.
-
There is nothing wrong with shooting "corrosive" ammo, unless you're lazy and don't take care of your toys. Do you change the oil in your car at the required intervals? If not, you should. Do you clean your firearm after every range trip? If not you should.

The AK74 is much better than a 6MOA rifle and can take advantage of a 4x optic. I'd say the AK74 is more like 3 MOA. The AK47 is more like 4-6MOA, depending on whether it's a factory built gun or something was was built from a parts kit here in the USA. Keep in mind that even "non-corrosive" powder residue can absorb/trap moisture from the air and cause corrosion. "Corrosive ammo" simply means that potassium chlorate is used as the oxidizing agent in the primer compound. During combustion, potassium chloride is produced and left in the barrel and gas system. Potassium chloride attracts water (just like sodium chloride) and the water causes corrosion.
-
AK74 rifles are more accurate than the AK47 rifles - and MUCH cheaper to shoot! 5.45x39 suprlus ammo is very inexpensive right now at about $0.12/ round. Cheap ammo = more practice = better shooting. I'd still go for the AR15 if I had to choose between the two, even though ammo is quite a bit more expensive at $0.30+/round.
-
What are you going to use it for? If accuracy is important, go for the AR15 (5.56x45), or possibly the AK74(5.45x39). The AK47 rifles chambered in 7.62x39 are a little less accurate. Provided your AKM rifle has the scope base on the left side of the receiver, you can easily mount an optic. Edit: If you go with a Kalashinikov, look for one with an optic mount base plate like this... http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/AK74/IMG_0312.jpg Then you can go to the Kalinka optics site and order an appropriate optic. The mounts are often built into the optic and slide over the base and then clamp in place. This one is offset to the left so you can still use the iron sights with the scope installed. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/AK74/IMG_0320.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/AK74/IMG_0322.jpg or you can find just mounts with rails that will allow you to attach other optics. This one is a little high for cheek weld but allows you to use the iron sights without removing. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/AK74/IMG_1100.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/AK74/IMG_1099.jpg

I'm not trying to be a smart a$$, but if you can't shoot well with the XDM, what makes you think the 92F will be better?? For me, it doesn't seem to matter which pistol or caliber I'm shooting, I shoot about the same size (too big!) groups.

These are great pistols. A little heavy and some say underpowered, but very accurate and reliable. Edit: Some nice Beretta pistols for cheap! http://www.dansammo.com/firearms.asp
