  1. Have you ever looked down range through a Nikon Monarch Gold? Very good light transmission! Amazingly clear, in fact. Even the less expensive Buckmark series are impressive. At 300 yds, with my Buckmark @18x magnification, I could clearly see .308 size holes in the target and just barely make out .223 size holes. My friend had a lower end scope with 24x (28x?) couldn't see the same holes!
  2. Try it with reliable iron sights to determine if it's the scope internals. Also, check the crown to make sure it didn't get damaged (small knicks are bad) when they were extracting the steel case.
  3. Anyone know where I can purchase some .308 (7.62x51) rifle grenade blanks, preferably near Columbus area? These are not the plastic blanks, but the brass cased, star crimped variety.
  4. Here's a couple to start with. http://m14forum.com/ammunition/99129-herter-s-308-steel-cased-ammo-failure-ruined-my-rifle.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4K45cXD6b0 Also check out the product reviews at various online retailers (Cabela's, etc.) that sell this stuff. Plenty of comments on extraction problems.
  5. I just did a quick search on the Herter's steel case .308 ammo and was a bit surprised by the number of case extraction problems as well as case head separations (very bad!!). Diamonds - you may want to do some searching on this stuff if you haven't already. There are WAY too many reports of kabooms and damaged firearms with this ammo!
  6. I assume that you are alluding to reloading your own, which is certainly the best way to get ultimate accuracy out of a particular rifle. There is such a thing as factory "Match grade" ammo that is of the steel case variety, however. Some of us shooters need to have steel cased ammo that is accurate! Not everyone is shooting an AR10.
  7. Ouch. Are you going to give that ammo another try?
  8. Were you able to run enough rounds through your AR10 to determine how accurate the ammo is? I haven't seen any comparisons on this stuff yet.
  9. Still looking for some of this ammo...
  10. The risk of placing your targets away from the backstop is that bullets can ricochet off the ground and fly over the backstop. Or, someone brings a target stand that is too tall, and they end up aiming up and shoot over the backstop. Both of these dangerous situations have happened more than once at my local range!
  11. I'm looking for some specific years of 7.62x5r Czech surplus. I have cash or other ammo (lots of calibers) that I could trade. The ammo I'm looking for was imported in large quantities a few years ago and was sold through various retailers such as AIM Surplus. I've even found it at Dunham's stores in the past, although not in crate quantities. The ammo came in dark green crates that contained a single tin of 800 rounds. The rounds were package in greenish-blue 20 round cardboard boxes. PM or email me if you can spare any...thanks! http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/IMG_9147_zpsf0d55d63.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/IMG_9148_zps9ba13db0.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/IMG_9146_zps93ada428.jpg

    Ammo ages

I try to use up my military surplus ammo from the 1940's-1960's first, before I get to the 1970's and 1980's vintage. Storage conditions are the most important factor. 1 year old ammo could be less reliable than 70 year old ammo depending on storage conditions. Stable temperature and low humidity are the two most important factors.
  13. Here's my piston driven AR.... http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/IMG_2302_zps9f83c020.jpg I'd pick the SIG 516 but both are very nice rifles...
  14. Rent a power dolly and you can do it yourself. They have models that will easily handle stairs.
  15. I have a very nice Galil 329 that I would like to trade for a Galil in 5.56x45 (.223). I'm looking for one of the ARM models, but would also consider AR models. The Galil 329 is the 7.62x51 (.308) AR model with the 18" barrel and Galil flash hider. I have a couple extra mags, too, with an original Israeli mag connector - these are tough to find for the 7.62. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/IMG_3643_zpsa8013806.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/IMG_3642_zps9b7f6009.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/IMG_3647_zps94183bad.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/IMG_3645_zps01e5c225.jpg
  16. Who does high quality window tints these days? I'd like to have the windows tinted on my Mazdaspeed3.
  17. If you buy a proper military fixed stock (with the sling cut-out and pin holders), you can buy cheek pieces that snap on. This is the cheap route. http://www.robertrtg.com/g3cheek.html The Magpul PRS is a better option, but a bit more expensive.
  18. If it's complete with all accessories and in good condition, $500 would be a good price. You can get "new old stock" examples for $700, so anywhere between $500 and $700 may be reasonable. I've never heard of Karl Kaps.
  19. Save up and get the optic that was made for it... the Hensoldt FERO Z24. Hard to beat the field of view and the crystal clear optics on these. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/IMG_4062_zpscfc6223e.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/IMG_4064_zpse55e6ba7.jpg If you really have to stay under $300, I'd go for a Nikon Buckmaster series.
  20. I found a photo of Avenger's ammo stash... http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g322/sgammo/IMG_0450.jpg
  21. If you can fit your ammo inside your safe you don't have enough ammo!! Or enough guns. I like to use military surplus ammo cans with a bag of desiccant in each.

    Mosin Rifle ?

Just another one of Bubba's creations.
  24. Anyone going to the machine gun shoot at Knob Creek next weekend? It will be interesting to see how much ammo is available down there this year. I expect there to be quantity available with all of the hungry machine guns to feed. I hope it doesn't put too much of a damper on the shooting...
