From memory: All ACR sedans were SOHC. All ACR Coupes were DOHC. There were Koni's on the 97-99 ACR's but they were not quite the same as the Koni Sports on this car - if memory serves me right they were not adjustable like the aftermarket Koni Sports on this car. The 1995 - 1996 ACR's had Arvin shocks / struts. All ACR's had PS. To my knowledge, the only ACR's that did NOT have sound deadening were the 1995 sedans. There were two ACR packages in 1995 and 1996: the 23C package and 23D package. The 23C package was the true race version: no options available at all except for rear window defrost. The 23D package was the "popular equipment package" for the ACR and included AC, AM FM Cassette, and a few other things to make it more livable. The http://www.neons.org site has all the info on these cars. These are really fun cars and cheap to build. Not the ultimate in technology but relatively fast, good handling, and cheap. I almost won the OVR Street Touring Championship in 2006 in one that I had a total of $2,800 into including the car, tires, and modifications. Unfortunately, the car was totaled before the end of the season.

Clean title. The ACR was the American Club Racing version. No side molding or fog lights. Lower final drive (3.94 vs. 3.55), stiffer springs, and heavier sway bars than regular Neon. For more info, look http://faq.neons.org/faq/FAQ_OEM.html#ACR Rich

1996 Plymouth Neon ACR Coupe. This is my son's car. This car has about 172,000 miles on it. Recent valve job, brakes, exhaust manifold, all motor mounts front wheel bearings. Adjustable Koni Sport Struts (yellow). Clutch was replaced last year but there is oil leaking on to it from (I assume) the rear main seal, so it needs a new clutch and rear main seal. Car looks good. No body rust except where the paint has been chipped. Usual nicks and scractches. No significant dents or wrinkled sheet metal. Factory AM FM Cassette. Tires fair condition. Runs and drives good except for slipping clutch in 4th and 5th gear under heavy acceleration. Bud still drives it every day. This would make a great platform for a HPDE / Track Day car, IT car, or rallycross machine. $1,000 / offers. PM me or email my son at andrew dot grunenwald at gmail dot com. EDIT: Also had timing belt and water pump when valve job was done. http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r228/31rx7/1996%20Neon%20ACR%20Coupe/CIMG2320.jpg

Shoot. Thought I had that in the ad. Just under a 195,000. You would never know it by driving it.

NEW PRICE - $1,700 *** Correction - Car is 1997. It was previously posted as a 1994. My bad! **** THE CAR: 1997 Geo Prism LSi. Sister car to the Toyota Corolla of the same generation. Black with a light metallic in it. LSi model with all options. Taupe leather interior. Ice cold A/C, ABS brakes, PW, PL, PS, PB, cruise, power sunroof, AM/FM CD Cassette. Excellent gas mileage; low 30's around town and high 30's on the highway (or so Dad says!). THE HISTORY: Mom and Dad bought this in 1997 or so when it had about 24,000 miles on it. It has been their sole car for quite some time and served them well. No significant accidents. One accident in 1999 or so where another car scraped the drivers side all the way down which required replacement / repaint of sheet metal, but no structural work. Expertly maintained by The Northend Wrench. Has not required any significant mechanical work, just the normal expendables (oil, brakes, tires, battery, etc.). THE GOOD: Drives well, straight and true. Quiet, NO RATTLES OR SQUEAKS even on bumpy roads which is amazing for the age and miles. Everything works properly. Needs nothing mechanically. Tires, battery, brakes all a year or so old. Looks very good (just washed and waxed it, and cleaned the interior) and the interior is in good shape also. THE NON-GOOD: Some oil leaks developing. Not bad; you might want to address a couple of the easy ones (valve cover gasket, a power steering hose). Drivers and Passengers seat cushions feel the 195,000 miles, but are not intolerable by any means. Small dent on LF fender on corner by corner light. Surprisingly few dings and scratches elsewhere. Tear in passenger seat back bolster. SUMMARY: This has been a great car for Mom and Dad. This would be an excellent daily driver to keep the miles off of your nice car, a good car for the teenage kids or student, or an ideal winter car. PRICE: $1,900 on CL (KBB price). However, will be extra flexible with CR members. No trades (well, maybe a motorcycle but my wife would kill me!) CONTACT: Via email rgrunenwald at columbus dot rr dot com. I am around today (May 30) but out of town most of tomorrow (May 31). http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r228/31rx7/1994%20Geo%20Prizm%20For%20Sale/Geo-Prism_0001.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r228/31rx7/1994%20Geo%20Prizm%20For%20Sale/Geo-Prism_0002.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r228/31rx7/1994%20Geo%20Prizm%20For%20Sale/Geo-Prism_0003.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r228/31rx7/1994%20Geo%20Prizm%20For%20Sale/Geo-Prism_0006.jpg

There's a guy in the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club that has one that is very, very nice. The only one I've seen with 6 into 6 pipes. Very sweet and it sounds cool.

Looks like they are settling on the 2002 - 2005 Civic, 4 door, automatic. We looked at a couple today. If anyone knows of a nice, low mileage one for under $10k, let me know. I have already identified a few on AutoTrader and Craigslist.

Thanks for the replies. - Fit doesn't fit the price range - Corolla, maybe. Dad likes Toyota's - Camry, maybe. I am trying to push them towards a larger car like a Camry / Altima / Accord, but not having much luck. - Impala, no. Dad hates Chevrolet. Do they really get 30 mpg in town day in and day out? Not doubting your experience, but that seems atypical. - Mini, no. This is their car, not mine! - Caliber, maybe. Fits the requirements nicely and there are a lot of low mileage ones cheap. But, if you've ever been in one, the interior screams "I am a POS". Hard plastic everywhere. - Element, maybe. Gas mileage not quite what they want, but they are utilitarian and sit up high with good ingress / egress. The 2wd ones are cheaper and would work for them. - Hyundai / Kia (Elantra, Sonata, etc.), maybe. Will check them out. Cars on the list to look at: - Vibe / Matrix - Caliber - Saturn Vue 2wd - Honda Element - Cobalt / G3 - Accord / Camry / Altima - Corolla / Civic / Sentra - Hyundai / Kia, Sonata / Optima, Elantra, etc. Should be enough to entertain them with. Thanks!

In this price range, they are looking used. On the Yaris, doesn't fit the price range. Sonata, maybe. Not a big Hyundai / Kia fan. On the Buick, I suggested an older, larger car or mini van at lower cost, but they prefer something smaller. Cobalt, maybe. I have not sat in one. A higher seat is better given Dad's ability to get in and out. Dodge Caliber fits the bill except they seem so cheap. I've driven a few. On the Subies, I was wondering about the MPG. I like the AWD though. Keep'em coming.

Their 1994 Geo Prizm has almost 200k miles on it, and is pretty tired. Here's what they are looking for: - Excellent gas mileage (25+ mpg around town) - Automatic transmission - Not real low; ease of ingress / egress - Reliable; cheap to own - Good safety - $10,000 or less Initially they like the Toyota Matrix / Pontiac Vibe. Interestingly the reliability ratings on these differ considerably; I thought they were built at the same plant. Other models I have thought about but have not researched include: - Subaru Outback or Forester - Mazda 3 Any other ideas? Thanks! Rich

Kymco is Korean, isn't it? At least they are bigger and better established than the Chinese brands. It does look kind of cool for a 250cc bike. It might appeal to certain buyers on looks alone. However, I would rather buy a used mainstream bike than one of these.

Wow! Everybody has an opinion. And certainly it is a free country and everybody is entitled to one. So, I have an opinion too. The fact that he got sideways in a car new to him that is significantly different than his past cars is not unexpected. The fact he caught it tells me he knows what to do.

98 Neon missing and sounds like its backfiring through the TB

Nothing that time and money won't cure! Really like your car. I love the color and the wheels, and the interior looks nice.
-
Yes, good event and nice day.
-
Agreed. Unless you have a cheap used engine to throw into it and can do the work yourself, stay away. You can get a decent starter bike that you can ride and check out before buying for what you will have in this one.

My wife would kill me...but I want...

Funny. When I bought my CB750 K5, it had a seat just like it. Mine was not nearly as nice but has turned out to be a good bike. This one is a beauty. I gotta ask, how much did he pay for it?

I like the look of the Nightster and the XR1200. I am not a big fan of the orange paint scheme on the XR but do like the look of the bike as a take off of the competition bike. I am with Doc, I don't get the whole Harley mystique. Of course, I don't get a lot of things in life but have learned to just accept them. Must be something that comes with age. One nice things about Harley's is they seem to depreciate to a certain level and then hold their value as long as they are cared for.
-
Cool, but how do you ride them?
-
I kind of like it. Not sure if / where I would use it.
