  1. Well, I just skipped over 3pgs of BS to say props on the car man. I wish I had you skill set. This thing is BA, partially due to it being budget.

Thanks boss. Its crazy to think about the amount of car-knowledge I have gained over the years of selling and developing parts during my time at http://www.shearerfabrications.com, building, and tuning FI cars. One of the things I love about this project is that its forcing me to learn new things almost every time I work on the car. Its a big part of my enjoyment for the hobby.

  2. When's this Dyno queen getting mopped up by Linns mullet machine?

100% In for that, ready for the Linn quick 3... and I'm going on 2. :p

LOL is it 2005 again? Let's compare retirement accounts and net worth... It's the e-penis size of 2015!

    IBTL!!!

My W2 is ready if you want to paycheck race. I own 4 homes, and the company I've worked for for 6 years matches 401k dollar for dollar up to 5%. My "fun" trade king account has admittedly sucked for the last 2 years, but thats my fault. How much more is your college degree worth again? ;)

    IBTL!!! :p

PS: I wish it was 2005 again!!!! Weekly street racing all over the state, no real responsibilities, and PD with the CDSM crew??? Common' back

PPS: If you have any ownership in your parent's Chinese restaurant, you automatically win, because I fucking love dirty Chinese food.

  3. Looked like it was tucked right up to the floor....so anything reasonably close to that...carpet...wires ect

The only place its close, its warped.

The OE heat shields are still there in the trans tunnel and fuel tank area.

Everywhere else-there is either a transmission, drive shaft, or cross member between the exhaust and the car-so we coo' ;)

  4. It's actually a "pre built" harness from DIYAutotune.com

It's not really what you'd think, just a DB37 connector with different wires already pinned to the ecu appropriate pin. I like it, I'm a noob when it comes to harness making, and I like having uniform colors for everything so I can easily diagnose something. The wire isn't as high of grade as I would have liked but for $80 and each is a different color/stripe combo and labeled every foot, I won't bitch.

    Cool.

I can solder a board, and have built full harnesses-repined ECUs...ect-just F'in hate it!!! And believe it or not its fairly expensive to do a nice, clean harness.

  5. not the first shitty exhaust ttls1 FC.

*correction* Worlds first LS1 TT FC :)

Love the idea of making shit on a budget, all for it. It seems that JP has possibly put in extra effort to make it the shittiest, and maybe added the extra unsafe factor,

What is unsafe about the exhaust? Further, what have I made more unsafe on this car besides quadrupling the HP? As with all of my cars, the most unsafe part of the car is the driver-and I cant fix that one. :)

On top of all of it-as mentioned this exhaust is semi-temporary. It will be redone when I have time to build a full AL exhaust, which will take a whole day-a day I have to schedule with someone else since I will be using their tools.

  6. I miss threads like these, classic!

    Timeline

2000 - JP builds death trap from junk yard parts

2001 - Everyone hates on JP

2002 - JP builds death trap from junk yard parts, CR meets JP on the street, not so bad

2003 - Majority hate on JP

2004 - JP builds death trap from junk yard parts, CR sees JP at the track regularly, at little better

2005 - Most hate on JP

2006 - JP builds death trap from junk yard parts, it traps +150mph at the track, CR loves JP

2007 to Present - Haters still gonna hate

    .

LOL-Wish I could make this my sig!!!

To be honest, I laughed out loud when I saw that duct exhaust! Some things never change.... like how I'm still faster and quicker than JP! BOOM.

Yes, but how much did you spend on that journey? I have bought house(s) that i have doubled my money on for less than you spent on that thing!!! Man, I'd did make a few great passes though. ;)

Back on topic...that exhaust wont melt shit!? As "junkyard" as the car is, its a lot of work to go down in flames....

What is going to melt? You lost me there.......

  7. If shitty makes you proud, you have hit the mark. With work like that you shouldn't even make fun of D Wiggs and his shit.

    Man, the hate!!!

There are a lot of things to consider with this build

    1) Budget. I want to keep the total cost as close to or under 5k for the total build as possible, so this will work for now and only hit the budget $28. The car will eventually have a full aluminum exhaust, but that's down the road.

    2) Time. I am a father of 1.5, and work 45-50 a week as a bank manager to support my stay at home Wife, and dead beat mother whom lives in one of my houses. I cant bang around the garage at night (attached garage) or it would wake up the kid, so my time to fabricate parts is very limited. My weekends are typically booked up as well, especially in the spring/summer with Iron Man training, and various local youth sports programs I run or am involved with. Long story long, I needed to keep this project a quick and easy as possible.

I am 100% sure I will build this-rock the pants off this for a a few years, and double my money whenever I end up selling it. :p

  8. Seriously, go drive something with that transmission. Drive an S4 w/DCT (which is almost universally considered better than the manual in that car) and SQ5 w/the 8HP and objectively tell me that the DCT iteration is a better drive train than the 8HP. I don't think anyone could. :)

But the DCT has a clutch, and the ZF 8HP has a torque converter, correct?

  9. exhaust hangers will automatically fall off in 5 minutes or less.

Ha! The Hangers I used on the RX-7 Exhaust I built in 2007 held for 3 years of use, on 2 different cars, and are still welded to the pipe sitting in storage. I was going to use that section on this car, but I didn't think 3.5inch pipe would cut it for my power goals. :p

As well as Using the crossmember as a holder for the exhaust.

Its close, but its not physically touching the cross member. I had to run it over, as it would be way to low going under. I would have had to rebuild the cross member to make that work.

  10. Happy with the final product and sound-and still in budget!!

Video. Dont mind the wiener extension, that will be trimmed and I will either add a simple turn down, tip....something.

  11. Spring is here! So its back to work.

When I got the car, NO gauges worked. I now have Tach, Fuel level, Volts, Water temp, and oil pressure. The Speedo is a lost cause for now for several reasons. Also eliminated some plugs and loose ends from the OE harness I was not using-still needs a LOT of cleaning up wiring wise, but admittedly that's not my forte. Installed an AEM WB I had laying around-temporarily lassoed it to the boost gauge until I build a panel to move them down to the HVAC area.

I also wanted to tackle the exhaust. I had Idea from twin 3inch electric cut outs inch dumps to a single quiet 2.5, to IMSA style rear fender exits. But, I wanted to use as much of what I had as possible, but still be efficient for my long term goals, and keep it in the budget. Well, out came this.

Twin 3's into a full 4 inch flop a dop pipe.

    (Mock up)

Total cost- $28. It fits ridiculously well, and the flex hose is not nearly as flexible as you may think, so it worked out absolutely perfect.

    What I love about it,

1)Its 80% scrap-Only thing I purchase was the 4inch flex pipe, and a 4inch band clamp, and gas for the welder.

    2) love the way it fits-nice and tight-

    3) I can be off the car in 5 Minutes or less. I love having easy access to troubleshoot parts or quick fixes at the track. This will also allow me to take it off in segments on the dyno to see if its a restriction when I turn up the Jam.

Hopefully it sounds as good as other 4 inch systems I have done. Kind of an empty trashcan aggressive situation that would be augmented by the cam that's yet to go into the car.

Next-275 Micky T's for the 17s, tint, and good weather!

  12. I talked with a retired hard core cop. Gave his own brother a speeding ticket. He didn't even know there was restrictions.

Did you ask him if he gave any "leadway" for toys with historical tags? Or, if he is just a prick (Im sorry, but busting your brother is a prick move) his opinion may not help or hinder this discussion....

  13. I can tell you the loud, obnoxious, marginally illegal muscle cars I have owned are generally the least ticketed cars and the cars that I usually get away with the most vehicular misbehavior (now, not that way in the early 90's), and I have never had historical plates. I actually don't think I have ever gotten a ticket in the GTO and I got pulled over in the late 1990's for doing 110mph on a residential street. My buddy drove a 1967 Firebird for years on open headers and never even got so much as a noise ticket. .

But that a legit muscle car-this is not. Muscle cars as a whole already get a free pass.

That is true...they wont see the tag until they know they want you. If anything at a quick glance it may look like an out of state tag if they are not used to seeing them. Not sure if that is good or bad...I assume bad?

Let me give you this scenario-

I am cruising down the street-lets say 49 in a 35 past a cop who is not running radar-but catches my speed from his active radar going the opposite direction. I am not in it, just in a loud, low Rx7. When the cop looks in his rear view and sees a historical tag, does he say "screw it, its a toy" or pull a Uie like they typically do when they see a loud ricer going down the road?

  14. I have always seen these as some sort of magical getoutajailfree card for old men-heard many stories of burnouts, LOUD exhaust, and general bad behavior forgiven for cars with historical tags. And what may be the best for Cuyahoga county- no E check!! The RX7 is eligible as of this year, so I figured that it was the logical move.

    And I read this-

To qualify, motor vehicles must be at least 25 years old. They are solely collector's items and are used for participation in club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, and similar uses. A historical motor vehicle shall not be used for general transportation, but may be operated on the public roads and highways to and from a location where maintenance is performed on the vehicle. They are NOT for general transportation.

    http://www.bmv.ohio.gov/sp_historical.stm

I feel like this is a general guideline, but wonder if there is actual enforceable law backing it up. For example, if i get pulled over at 4am on the way back from a long trim to Mexico-can a cop take the car for the car being used "outside of its purpose" if he was a real dick?

The next question, does this put me more ON the radar of the fuzz than OFF the radar?

LMK if anyone has experience with this.

  15. Close enough for me :p

What year did they add that option?
