  1. Only two jags I would ever consider buying.

Xke coupe. I must have one.

S type R. Was really close to buying one but decided on something different. A very reliable and great car.

XJR is a great "adult" cruiser IMO. V8, Blower, rides on a cloud.

  2. Really? I was just looking at two on cars.com that were "high mileage". One had 129,000 miles and the other was 110K and there was a third that was drug dealer yellow with 95,000. they were all early 2000s GTS coupes. Is there a specific generation you are looking for? there seem to be a decent number of them in the 50K to 70K mileage range.

I guess my thinking on it is that if you were looking at a salvage car, then who cares if you take it to the mall and park it next to two Honda odyssey minivans, or let the valet park it, or drive it in the rain, or take it to a McDonald's drive through, or gut the interior weld in a roll bar and give that guy at the SCCA auto-x's with the mini can am car a run for the money.

Prefer Gen 3 for the 30k mark. For what I would do, rebuilt 25k Gen 3 > 35k high Miles Gen 2 with a clean title.

  3. so I have to ask...are you going to daily drive it? because in my head that would be the only reason to buy a salvage viper - the resale is already gutted so might as well use it like a regular car.

Otherwise, I would say just look for a clean high mileage example that is in your price range.

High miles in general is hard to find. I'd buy one with 100k without hesitation, if I could find one with 100k!!!

DD? No I have an AWD for winter, but I'd drive the fucker int he snow just to be a dick :)

  4. You know my cell ;)

    Text a brotha!

Just happened to hop online and see the PM. PM returned.

    Thanks-

And will do-was just easier to PM while at work. ;)

Please buy a "fun car" that has no zip ties, so I can say I've seen it all. :masturboy:

I'll find somewhere to put a zip tie on-would not feel right without it.

Let me know if you want someone to drive it back for you...

I'd fly down- I don't to the "buy online, ship it, hope for the best". I would go down there with a duffle bag, and if I like it stroke the check and take it home. I just don't trust the net/random people. Way too many scams out there.

  5. Rough estimate on weight?

    Looks mean

Doubt heavier than 2700-2750 wet since this is an AL block. My Gold car was 2620 Wet with a tool box. 4g is maybe a hair lighter, but the T56 is heavier, add another turbo...I'd love to see it under 2700 as is though! It will go on the scale when I get it to back street (as long as its not snowing)

  6. Well she officially has her sea legs. Put another 100 or so mile son it the last nice week we had up here-clutch is a pain in the ass but everything works well now. Hood is on with the new IC set up. I picked up injectors and a 4 bar map for dirt. Working on mult-used 255 set up this weekend if time permits. Then, off to the dyno for some boosted baseline runs.

  7. You got what you wanted JP... nothing but burnouts on the dyno lol

At the same time no less! :dumb:

Throw in some butts and you have the ultimate errythang video. You will break the internet.

Where is that BTW? Not the same Tunar I see.....

  8.

    Funkin' LOL

Local area is saturated with Cheaper Gyms. For $10 a month ($50 up front, month to month) you can gave 24 access, shower, pool, and toss weight around like king kong.

My office pays for a great rec center, and has a gym on site. Did you look at/do you have a local rec center?

  9. If you plan on just thrashing the thing around for two years and hope to come close to just breaking even then, it's not a bad idea at all..

That's my M.O. I have thankfully I have never lost on a car no matter how long I have owned it. The only one I will lose on $$ wise my wife's new Rav 4 (fuckin Women)

The car you are looking at is in between the two examples I posted. I *think* the market on a car like the one you linked should more represent something like a 45% discount from retail... placing the value in the neighborhood of $25k

I agree 100%-I go by body style date range, not year/blue book for value. As for the price-you saw the winning bid...and the seller had a "soft" reserve. ;) At the end of the day, I may just put in an open order at Jet Auto for a cheap something-or-other any wait for your call. :)

  10. I would never do it as an investment or with the intent to recover money on

    Not a good investment.

    Can you nerds read? LOL

Obviously, as an investment, not the best move.

Here is what I am looking at-

    1) I don't need or want a car loan-so if I can get car A in the same condition as car B for 20k less, I'm buying car A all day.

    2) As Brandon and E_92 stated, anyone with their nose in the viper market knows Gen 1 and 2 Vipers get salvaged very easily and there are a lot of buyers in the 20-30k cash range, so many that its hard to get a good deal because they sell so quickly. I looked a car that literally had a crack, one freaking crack, in the clam shell because the guy bumped a concrete parking pillar. He had pics, and all the info from insurance. It sold the next day before I could make an offer.

If I can buy an exotic of any kind- Viper, Lambo, whatever-drive it for a year or 2 and sell it for what I paid, I'm winning. It just so happens that Vipers are the most lucrative to buy cheap since they are the most often totaled for minor accidents.

  11. What is the pain threshold for a higher end or exotic car that is rebuild? 30% or retail? 40% 50%????

Obviously, as an investment, not the best move. But lest say the car is old enough that that it would be difficult to car loan anyways, so your market is primarily cash buyers. Rebuilt does not hinder your sale of the car down the line (in theory) and I assume you could just get ahead of depreciation, and come out ahead or even when you resell.

Use this as an example- 04 Viper. Average Retail used now is 45k. You can probably taker this home for 28-30k, around 35% off retail. And, its only got 8k miles.

    Do you make that move?

  12. geez it always seems like GTRs have a multiplication factor to their power in real world races.. like a 600awhp one is comparable to a 1000whp anything else

Its all in the gearing and faster than auto shifting.

You put any motor in front of that trans and its going to fly.
