I'd be willing to try and reseat the CPU heatsink to see if that is the issue. Won't save it if the damage is done, but it will make it stable for longer, for a little while. If you build a computer right, even if the tech is old it will still work great. I built a Core 2 Duo system back in 2008 that was still practically functional in 2011. A simple over clock to create a 1:1 ratio of FSB to RAM speed kept it moving really nicely. I love my SSD. It makes everything except installs faster. (Takes longer to write to flash memory than to a platter). The boot times and access times make you hate working with antiquated technology. I use a 60GB Corsair, and still try to live by mechanical drive rules (Never more than 75% of the drive filled). I have managed to keep it right at about 35GB, so the OS and required programs aren't that heavy. I run all my games off the storage drive. (I create a partition file directory in the storage drive and put that folder in the programs file) Once they are loaded, they run great and don't really need to access the drive (Most of my games are online in some manner or another). The PITA part is your User Directories. Windows saves that crap in the User's file, and the User's file cannot be moved. It is always being used unless it is in debug mode, and once you move it to another drive and create the junctions and such, the OS becomes unstable. So you always have to keep and eye out and make sure your files are being saved on the storage drive. GFX should be ATI. Their cards are working really well, and the prices are spot on. I use a HD 6950, and flash the card to unlock the shaders. It makes the card like a HD 6970 without the cost. I'd advise just modifying the shaders and not the clock speeds. Hey look, Exarch is talking out of his ass again. The boot and access times are almost twice as fast as a HDD. 60GB is enough for the OS and basic programs, everything else should be on the storage drive. You are going to pay the same for the storage drive, the extra $100 to make everything run faster is a small price to pay.

An SSD will work much better than a HHD. The access times are way better, and no mechanical parts to fail. I'm happy to help with builds without charging. Food and beer is always appreciated though.

What I wanted to do is completely relocate the User's Directories to the HHD, so the computer saves all the user settings as well as the pictures and such without any additional work from the user. Sadly I found that trying to move that stupid folder completely is nearly impossible.

Make sure you set up the SSD with a storage HHD. You will also have to do some partitioning and extra effort to keep the SSD clean and uncluttered. (If anyone has figured out how to actually move the User directory to another drive, let me know. I think I went through 5 Windows installs before I gave up) It will also take longer to install things on the SSD. But the insane boot times and access times are well worth it.

i5 2500K unlocked will do most anything you need. i7s are a waste of money IMO. Micro Center's package deals with M/Bs and processors sometimes beat online prices. A good CPU cooler will help keep the temps lower and prolong the life of the system. Get a full tower with lots of modular expansion options. If you get the right one, you shouldn't need to ever buy another one. The more ventilation and fan bays the better. SSD for OS/Boot, and a 1GB HHD or larger for internal storage 750W P/S will keep you going for a while, unless you like really beefy GFX cards. GFX cards are all over the place in price and performance. ATI is whooping NVidia lately. Optical drives are cheap and almost useless nowadays, save Win and driver installs. DDR3 is pretty cheap now too. Onboard sound works fine for me. A quality 27" monitor will make the computing experience all the better. That should leave you with just replacing the GFX, M/B, CPU, and memory when the future demands it. Maybe a large SSD when prices come down.. For example: My current system: i5 2500K (Stock clock) (~$175) Cooler Master CPU Cooler (~$30) Gigabyte M/B (~$125) Corsair 4GB DDR3 1600 ($50) ATI Radeon HD 6950 (Unlocked shaders) (~$300) Corsair 30GB SSD (~$100) WD 2GB HHD (~$75, bought while overseas) Optical drive (~$10) Thermaltake 750W P/S (~$200) Thermaltake Chasar MK-1 Case (~$110) So a little over $1100, and the major stuff is covered, with little need to upgrade for a while. Even when I do have to, it is only the GFX, M/B, CPU, and memory if DDR3 is obsolete at that point. The $300 for the 27" monitor was well worth it. The screen real estate is awesome and makes everything look awesome. Still runs at 1920x1080 so no crazy GFX requirements either. Pretty basic except the GFX and SSD, and it runs anything I've thrown at it great. I've been building computers for 10 years or so, so send me a PM if you have any other questions.

Sorry to hear this. I've experienced more than my share of death in my life, but luckily not a parent. My advice to you is spend as much time as you can with him. Whatever he wants to do, or just talk. Those last few month will be the most powerful and encouraging memories you will have of him. CRT is designed to allow teams to not have to spend the money on prototype motors, lowering the cost involved in funding a team. They just aren't competitive at this point. Almost like a ALMS race with multiple classes.

Maybe, but look what happened to Schumacher. The top tier guys just keep getting better. It seems like it would be hard to compete immediately on returning, and even more so without factory support.

Last season, yes. That man was unbeatable for the most part. This season is going to be very interesting. Lorenzo and Pedrosa are all running really fast up front. Hell Crutchlow is really impressive thus far too. CRT bikes might as well race in Moto2. However retiring now has its benefits, and family is important. Rossi is stuck retiring being remembered for a few abysmal seasons on the Duck rather than the glory days of Honda and Yamaha.

You driving down in a 4x4 vehicle? We had a great time out on the off-road only area of the beach last year.

I personally tell my close friends and family just about everything. That is kind of why they are there after all. Now they are definitely going to give you some shit for it, but that is after it is sorted out. I mean that is how good stories come about anyways. If it is something embarrassing involving another person I try and talk to that person about it.
