  1. http://www.ohioriders.net/showthread.php?t=91786 - Worth every penny. I wear them on and off the track religiously. I wouldn't skimp on the gloves either. Good feel on the controls really helps. Rent your leathers until you're sure you like it. Take the time to prep you bike properly and ahead of time and the day will go smoother as well.
  2. I agree the guy was a dumbass. I'm armed about 95% of the time, albeit holstered. At night I'd likely grab the Persuader over the pistol. I would try to identify the person at the door prior to opening, and definitely prior to pointing a weapon at them. Pointing a weapon at a unknown target is stupid and irresponsible. Trying to make a stand against armed assailants in an open doorway is really stupid. If I couldn't identify them, I wouldn't open the door. If they came through the door anyways, I'd demonstrate what the shotgun is best at.
  3. But seriously, glad you got what you were looking for. Hopefully you were smart enough to get everything in writing exactly how you were promised as well...
  4. Vance's CS sucks balls. Take your business elsewhere.
  5. +1 on the ghetto claymore.... But really, just pay for decent insurance and don't worry about it.
  6. Staged with oncoming traffic? A bad idea if it was.
  7. Facebook has been fucking retarded since it went from a college-only networking site to the new MySpace Whore that it is now.
  8. Simple green and a scrub brush
  9. I guess I should be asking if the level of non-enforcement is still there.
  10. Bah. I think the Army would frown on me getting arrested for something that violates at least three of things they cover in every safety brief.
  11. Well that's disappointing. Can we still play on that 30' incline or is that off limits too? Running the carts up that backwards was always fun.
  12. So can we still get away with shenanigans like wheelie'ing golf carts, golf cart races on the trails, and demolishing $37 pit bikes? Or is that kind of fun a thing of the past?
  13. Just make a nice and legal contract that documents rules and standards very well. Then it is easy to remove them if they don't live up to the expectations.
  14. If you want more fun, go to the SF community. The big green Army seems to get dumber all the time.
  15. Congrats on the buy! IMO, don't waste your money on the upgrades. Stock levers and damper are fine. Brake lines are a good idea, but flushing and bleeding the system will get you going just fine. Wait till you actually see a loss of feel before doing the upgrade. I found the stock lines to be fine when I had my 750 out. Again, I'd only replace the pads if they are worn down. Wait till they are needed for the upgrade. The cost of all those upgrades would add up to a few track days and improving your skill is the best upgrade you can get.

A good holster, good belt, and loose fitting clothing allows you to carry whatever you want. I carry a 4" 1911 even in shorts and a t-shirt.
  17. I'm pretty sure that is still considered a rifle, so loaded mags in the vehicle is a major no-no according to Ohio law. Kinda puts a damper on a defensive weapon.
  18. Yup, the gixxer crash was me. Good thing is that other than a bit sore, I'm fine. The speed increase in the straights was tolerable, but the corner speed was much higher than group five was running. I should have backed down, but instead I tried to keep up. Crash was caused by a few factors. Too much entry speed, Trying to take a wider line/later apex, not enough body off bike, and trying to use the throttle and more lean angle to correct for it. Luckily I was off the bike before it started doing acrobatics, but I wish someone had a camera running so I could've seen it. Damage to the bike was less than everyone made out. Fairing stay and windscreen are complete losses. Subframe is twisted, but it is an aftermarket aluminum one so bending it back should be possible. Tank is dented, but still holds fuel. Fairings took a little rash. Stupid frame slider bolt broke off in the motor. So aside from the motor mount, it is an easy fix. I'll drop the motor when I'm back in town around the 4th and hopefully be back out in late-July/early-Aug. Gear survived well, except for the leathers. Big hole in the left arm, and the scary pair of holes and rash around Mr. Happy. Almost looks like he slid on the ground too, so good thing he's not hurt either. Good excuse to get some that fit better, and if my thighs ever shrink, I have an extra set with a bunch of character I can use. But, lesson learned the hard way: don't go faster than you are comfortable just trying to keep up. I'm pretty sure that just encourages the instructors to go faster anyways...
  19. I don't think any specific breed of anything is predisposition-ed to attack people. That does not cover the ownership of venomous reptiles or lions and the like. That is just asking for trouble. I think that if an animal is raised right, and has lots of proper attention from humans, they will be fine. If the animal is not trained or properly exposed, it will be a crappy defensive animal, and with good reason. Blaming a breed for an owner's inability to train it is just wrong. But I'd also say that there are likely as many bad dog owners as bad snake owners. However, most snake owners don't take their pets for walks around other people. I also don't think that it should be illegal to own those kinds of questionable pets. But that ownership should be monitored, and the licensing prior to obtaining the animal should prove the owner is financially of caring for the animal for the length of its life, as well as fully knowledgeable on the animal. Now the people that make thousands of dollars a year breeding large constrictors and venomous reptiles I do have an issue with. The average person cannot properly care for these animals. Venomous reptiles can and have killed people due to the person's stupidity. Burms and Retics can get 17'-24' in length and 200lbs+. They both can be very cage defensive even when properly trained. Both have huge cage size requirements. They can live for nearly 40 years. Getting bit by a full grown Burm/Retic is supposed to be akin to a baseball bat to the face in force levels. That is not something for someone that is not very well versed in snake care, and some of the fucks that sell them lie outright on the eventual size and other requirements. So regulating the breeding for profit I wouldn't be opposed to, within limits. That being said, back to the snake questions. I've heard that Retics can be nice. I've handled a few that were. I've also seen someone get bit by one taking them out of the cage, and then have the snake calm down once he was out. My wife can vouch that our baby Retic we had caused a more painful bite than some of the larger ones. It would alternate pressure on each side of the jaw sort of sawing the bite. Our baby never really got over the aggressive nature and eventually got sold. The Retics are really intelligent though. They remind me of raptors from Jurassic Park in their head and eye configuration, and how they always look like they are thinking. I love the personality of Burms. They can be a bit touchy coming out of the cage, but once they are out they are great. Really docile, like to wander, fun to chill with. Boas are the same without the cage aggressive problem, and much smaller. Boas tend to hang on you a bit more since they are arboreal more so than Burms. That picture of the Burm is our girl, Hermione. She was sold to us as a boy, and the vet proved that wrong. A female Burm is just too big for us, so we had to sell her and get a male. I have piles of pictures, but most are not posted. My wife's Flickr has a bunch of random pictures so here is that. https://plus.google.com/photos/109577768902804117966/albums?banner=pwa I'm located in Central Columbus so if anyone is interested in seeing our collection just send me a PM and we can arrange something.
  20. I'll be there on Monday. You could save yourself a bunch of money and not move into Pennsylvania. There's nothing good there anyways.
  21. Bad knees and a bad back prevent long rides. Riding a sport bike kills the other side of the long distance riding. I can see going insane listening to the exhaust for three days though.

Np. The first time we stripped it down for cleaning I went beyond what they recommended. What can I say, I like to actually clean my weapons. The receiver pulls out of the stock easy enough, but that doesn't help much. I shot the bolt return tension adjuster and spring across the room when we disassembled it to properly clean the bolt. Took two people to get the stupid adjuster back in under tension as well.... A 10/22 with even a hundred bucks of mods is all kinds of fun to shoot. However, they are also not a joy to disassemble and clean, but it is at least do-able.. Fun at the range is definitely the 1911's and my AUG though. Course then the ammo gets pricey.
  23. Ear plugs. Music is a distraction. I'd rather be able to hear everything around me. I'm more into paying attention to the corners and the morons around me anyways. My .02c
