  1. for reference, I would need to sell at least enough parts to buy an XR100 to race, and have some money to throw at a circular headlight for the RR, and whatever parts are necessary to make it street-legal. I know turn signals and that sort of thing are cheap, so I'm mainly concerned with gauges and the headlight.
  2. I've had some interest in my track bike, but the most serious buyer doesn't have cash right now. This has got me thinking about buying a 2003-2006 frame with a clean (or salvage) title, and then parting out whatever is left over. How dumb of an idea is this? It sounds like a tremendous amount of work, but I would end up with a streetfighter'd 600RR with a TON of upgraded track parts that are probably overkill for street use. Honestly, my bigger concern is finding an affordable frame, and then getting stuck with a bunch of stock parts sitting in my garage for years. How miserable is it to part out a bike?
  3. insulating the attic is easy enough, but I don't want to tear up walls to insulate them. :-/
  4. how many BTU's are necessary to heat a 2-car garage in the winter? My insulation sucks, but I just want to be able to keep my treadmill out there and not hate life while i'm running and using the pullup bar, so 50 degrees is plenty warm. In the most extreme situation, I would want to get the garage up to more like 60 or 70 for a few hours if we have a new year's party where people are playing beerpong in the garage. is 30,000 BTU about right?
  5. A bike in the bed might actually help kick some air up over the trailer... with all other things equal, I guess I'd believe 1.5mpg difference. Wouldn't be a deal-breaker though... You're talking an extra 30 miles or so on each tank. if it were 4 or 5 mpg, I'd worry more.
  6. The lower height is definitely significant, but I have my doubts about a V-nose actually improving mileage much at all. It gives you a bit more interior space, but a truck-cap on the bed of the tow vehicle (not necessary if you're towing with a van or SUV) probably helps more than a V-nose trailer.
  7. Allegedly the computer nerd community settled on one. It's just italics, but slanted the opposite direction. My cousin clued me into this.
  8. I actually think its a great idea, but I can buy a brand new civic for $16k and it takes a long time to spend $3000 on gas. If it were closer to $10,000 (maybe after electric vehicle tax incentives?), I would be all over it. I am one of those guys who has to wear a suit to work instead of leathers and we already have one v6 vehicle that fits 5 + stuff comfortably. 2 people or 1 and 120 lbs of dog would be about all I need from a second vehicle. And the 200 mile charge is almost as much as my ranger got on a 15 gallon tank sometimes...
  9. it's still heavy. I'm guessing acceleration comparable to an SV650, but with a lower top-speed due to the 5 speed gearbox.
  10. have you seen the women who ride on the back of those things?
  11. I've been doing the track day and racing thing for 5 seasons now, and I don't think I can ride beyond the capabilities of an F4i... But with that said, I think the true measure of skill goes far beyond riding up to a bike's potential. I do okay on my RR with a bunch of aftermarket upgrades, but what really impresses me is when I see a rider who can take a less capable bike (or the same bike in stock trim) and still leave me struggling to keep up. That's riding around a bike's weaknesses and faults, and THAT takes some serious skill. One of my goals for next season is to learn to do that on an XR100. When the bike's performance potential is lower, you're forced to ride around its flaws more often. Look at successful pro riders, and check where they started. Nearly all of them have history with flat-track or minis. Smaller bikes allow you to learn those skills at lower speeds.
  12. fake, but funny. I would offer you a bike cover, but it's probably not worthing shipping. If you're up this way, I haven't used it in a while. Should only be like $20 at walmart anyway though. The thing is, 99% of covers are "dust" covers. They rarely keep a bike completely dry, and as Brian noted, they can act like a sail in high winds. You'll want to park the bike with the kick-stand near a solid object, and then run a cable lock through the subframe or rearset to prevent it from falling away from teh side stand while covered.
  13. for everyone who thinks their Gshock is awesome - I'll give you $10 for it
  14. Check out the zero-60 stuff at Iron Pony. Apparently they're made by Fieldsheer, which is encouraging. I wouldn't expect it to withstand consistent crashing the way a race-quality suit should, but if my experience with Fieldsheer is ANY indication, their stuff will do well as every day street gear. If I actually had a street bike, I'd seriously consider picking up a 2-piece suit from them.
  15. I don't want to carry a $200+ iPhone in the rain, nor do I want to sweat all over it or risk dropping it even if it's nice out. Besides, all the iPhone holders are the stupid kind that cuts off circulation to your biceps or falls off... And even if that arrangement was comfortable, I couldn't read it very easily while running.
  16. Although I've officially withdrawn my application from the FBI for the time being, Tough Mudder training is ongoing. If anyone has a wristwatch they no longer wear, I just need one that is reasonably comfortable and has a stopwatch feature. If it takes lap splits, that's a bonus. They're like $15 on amazon - anyone got one just gathering dust?
  17. Thank you. May I nit-pick and ask that it be changed to "woman" instead of "girl." Girl still implies that she's somehow less responsible. A 25 year old woman should know that her conduct was inappropriate just as well as the 55 year old bus driver, and I haven't heard anyone refer to him as a "boy."
  18. how is it not racist to expect less from some ethnic groups? Isn't that a blatant acknowledgment that certain races are academically inferior to others? As such, this should be an unconstitutional policy for use in public schools, no? the government is legally bound to not discriminate, thus it cannot expect more from asians than any other race. The only (legally acceptable) answer is to lower the standards for all races, or simply fail people who don't meet the existing standards. Why is the latter such an issue? It's not really a "standard" if you're creating artificial equality.
  19. Can a mod change the thread title to reflect the actual facts of the story? the woman was 25, not "teenage."
  20. I don't have a guy, so I'll provide my own opinion. You would be better off buying an AGVsport "forza" suit for $280 or so. For the price, they are very good intro-level suits. Much higher quality than a no-name suit made in china. Or go with a used name-brand suit, but the AGVsports are odor-free and have never been down...
  21. I saw this yesterday on Facebook. I assumed it was from TheOnion...
  22. Bolts through the bed is the easiest and cheapest answer, but do crawl underneath first to make sure you're hitting solid metal, and not drilling into anything important (or just into a place you can't easily get a washer and nut... There should be a DIY paint-on liner that will be a lot cheaper than spending a ton on doing a 15 yr old truck. Look into that too.
  23. Are they just going to ask her to leave, or are they going to impound the bike? Seems like the former is much more likely, and totally harmless. Better to ask forgiveness than permission on this one? In the alternative, I would find a large church parking lot on a saturday morning.
  24. Really depends on what you're using it for. The RR is faster around a track, but the F4i is a better everyday bike; especially the 2003 and newer models. Once the RR was introduced, the F4i didn't have to be Honda's race replica anymore, and the ergonomic changes they made to it really made them much better street bikes. Plenty fast, but still reasonably comfortable.

Not pretty, but it counts. Watching the bengals march down the field after we scored 14 points in 7 seconds was sickening though.
