  1. and I would bet you a dollar that whoever conducted this study makes a vaccine. Conflict of interest much? the medical field is almost as bad as politics when it comes to interest groups. You've got pharm reps IN the operating room badgering doctors about prescription drugs, and waving studies in their face that say, "people NEED this drug!" It's hard to trust your doctor when they're getting such biased information. I wouldn't say that the majority of doctors are "in" on it (i.e. accepting kick-backs from the pharm companies), but like I said, they're bombarded with biased information. as much as the whole vegan, hippie lifestyle is annoying to me, I think it's probably a lot healthier to avoid putting X, Y, and Z into our bodies than it is to add vitamins or drugs A, B, and C to counteract the other crap...
  2. Please cite. I can't see how this would be possible. I don't believe there is anything that links a license plate and a drivers license. It's just not an effective means of actually keeping track of anything. I have had my M endorsement for almost 6 years now. My wife just got hers 1.5 years ago. We only own 1 street bike, and it's registered to me. So if what you're saying is correct, she would have found the magic loophole to violate the permit rules without getting caught? I can't believe it's that simple. I also can't believe that the opposite would be true; that I could be pulled over for riding on the highway on a bike registered to someone without a full endorsement. It would seem to me that having a temps vs. a full license would be like a seat belt violation; you can't be pulled over for it, but you can be cited for it once you're pulled over for some other reason. And the cop WILL ALWAYS find some other reason - but that's besides the point...
  3. I'll have to re-read that part of the article, but I thought it was someone else saying it felt lighter when pushing it. Like the author had helped set up their booth or something... I'm sure Erik KNOWS the numbers; he's just not willing to put something out there without EPA regulations testing done. Remember when Yamaha claimed 17,500 RPM readline for the R6 and it ended up being a bit lower than that? Same thing would happen if Erik said, "185 whp and 370 lbs." and then the EPA managed to force the addition of some restriction device that weighs 15 lbs and costs 15hp... I think he's just keeping his mouth shut until the PRODUCTION bike is ready to speak for itself. what i honestly find most surprising is that they're sticking with the perimeter mounted single front-brake disk... That will never look right to me, and i have to believe that we'd see it in MotoGP if it were actually any better.
  4. I nearly pulled the trigger on the iPad yesterday. I picked up teh wife's iPhone (valentine's day present), and Verizon is running a promo deal where they'll sell you an iPhone 4 AND an iPad for $700 total. the iPad itself is usually at least $600, so it's a decent "deal" if you are going to buy both anyway... I held off becaue adding the iPhone to our cell plan raises our bill from $40/month to $108/month. Work covers my phone, so I've been spoiled up to this point... the smaller samsung(?) tablets MIGHT replace a phone, but the iPad is far to large for me... Plus when I was messing with it, the keyboard is totally useless. It's too big to "thumb type," but not responsive enough to lay on the table and touch-type like you would on a laptop.
  5. I've never personally had 2 bikes on my trailer, but I have seen others do it WITHOUT the Pit-Bull TRS. The base-plate itself is close to 2' wide, so it is tight, but I am totally sure it will work. At worst, I would have to stagger the base plates, or angle them slightly outward, so there was room between the handlebars of both bikes up front. Not the Pit-Bull TRS, but same principle. More room than I would have expected, actually
  6. unless it jerks me off, I wouldn't bother "upgrading." I have had my iPhone 3G for a few months now. Got it DIRT cheap ($99) because the iPhone 4 is out. The iPhone 5 comes out in the next few months too, and Verizon is counting on everyone clamoring to have it, and shelling out another $600 for no real reason... I have no doubt that "better" phones will continue to come out from now until eternity, but I am totally happy with my iPhone 3G, and see no reason to pay for anything 'better' in ways I won't use. In bike terms, it would be like buying a BMW S1000RR to commute on. Yeah, it's better than the 2005 GSXR 1000 in your garage, but the GSXR 1000 is already total overkill for commuting... I am betting ultra-nerds will find compelling reasons to champion the latest and greatest phone to hit the market, but 95% of consumers won't notice a real difference.
  7. retail is more actually! TJ at RidersDiscount.com has sick deals on the Pit-Bull TRS though. $30 or $40 less than i've seen it anywhere else. I don't think that offer ever expires though.
  8. under 380 lbs???? I'm betting for a 175ish hp figure (at the wheel). I won't even venture a guess on torque. wow. Looks promising
  9. if anyone has been debating picking up an inexpensive light-duty trailer, I would strongly suggest picking this up. It's basically a right of passage for trackday riders to own this trailer. At any given event, there are 5 or 6 of them in the paddock. I got mine on sale for $299 (regular price is $329), but this is the cheapest I've ever seen it: $259 (coupon attached) with the pit-bull TRS (highly recommended) or a simple "out-rigger" bar across the front of the trailer, you can fit 2 bikes on this trailer. Max weight capacity is just under 1200 lbs.; and remember, you're adding 3/4 inch treated wood decking, so probably not much ELSE after the two bikes, but it's damn cheap, decent build quality, and it folds for easy storage.
  10. Just clicked the news article, and it says all lanes are open now. Well before rush-hour traffic. I'm sure there will still be some backup, but nothing too horrible.
  11. I just hear sooooo many of us saying things like, "i'd do a trackday if it didn't cost so much," or "I'd race if i could afford tires/transponder/etc." you get the picture. spending hundreds of dollars on something that's unnecessary just seems like a bad call when there are so many other things that will make you safer, faster, or both... If you can pay $500 for a paint job and still have enough cash in the budget for 12 trackdays and 3 sets of tires, then I say go for it.
  12. what brand plastics? I don't know what brand mine are, but they have a 2-piece tail to (hopefully) avoid this problem, and I remember it still being a bitch and a half last time I painted... If you're having the problem I think you're having, it's best to start from the back, widen the narrow part of the tail as much as possible to get it over the narrowest part of the sub-frame, and then sort of "slide" the whole thing forward once it's down. easier to show you than describe, but it might make sense if you've been trying it. I would trim the fairings with a dremel before trying to heat them though...
  13. are the auto-reset targets worth buying? I'm thinking I could ghetto-make my own if I was properly motivated. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUmBfw0tyr8 not as cool as blowing stuff up, but less walking out targets.
  14. i figured they would at least shatter - am I off base? the clean-up issue occurred to me, so I'd probably reserve this for an area where cleaning up was semi optional (or lay down a tarp under/behind the targets). I can always buy a crap microwave from a thrift store and video the lightning storm instead RC cola, here i come! I had thought about that, and then reconsidered; assuming pop cans would be too expensive. It's literally been 10 years since I've bought a case of pop, so I was thinking of beer prices. ha.
  15. If Paul's pricing is as low as it sounds, it's at least worth a call to him. Otherwise, I haven't had any problems with paint fading. There IS an intermediate option that no one has mentioned at this point... buy your own harbor freight spray gun and air compressor. then you just buy automotive paint, and spray it yourself. It will NOT be as good as a pro job (chances are you will get drips, and "orange peel" that would drive them bonkers), but it will be automotive grade paint to resist gasoline better. Like I said though, i've gotten a fair amount of gas on my bike and it's never been an issue. I will agree with Brian that the wraps can look very "eh" close-up, but I've seen several that are very good. www.hixracing.com has their bikes 100% wrapped, right down to the NESBA "C" sticker on the fender. I did a double-take on that before realizing it was part of the wrap, and I was standing right next to the bike - is it as 'sharp' as paint? No, but it looks damn good from a couple yards away, and definitely in pictures. This is 100% wrap. (That's BuckyBadger btw)
  16. the prep work for painting NEW bodywork should be pretty minimal for rattle-can or a wrap. i have spilled gas on my rattle-can job numerous times, and it's never really messed it up. The only problems I've had are some cracking (the tail section flexes with my weight on it), and my top-coat has been rubbed off by my boot in a couple of places. track bikes get beat up. They're hitting bugs and bits of rubber from other bikes at 130+ mph, going on and off a trailer a few times a month, etc. - they get scratched. I'm much less upset about having my $40 paint job messed up than I would be about scratching an expensive paint job, or wrap.
  17. i vote rattle-can. Everything else is just soooo expensive by comparison; and for what return? I will say that the wraps seem to help keep things together a little better in a crash, but repairing a wrap means total replacement. repairing a rattle-can job is $6... professional paint costs as much as a weekend at the track. Where would you rather spend your money; looking good, or actually riding? personal choice.
  18. Weather and school is likely screwing me out of going shooting this weekend, but I was talking to SpeedyTriple about the outdoor range near Nelson Ledges, and what we might shoot at. He said he usually brings jugs of water, which I've seen plenty of people shoot online. Good option, but... Other than that, what do you typically shoot at? I was cleaning out some old files at work, and found over 50 old CD's; restore disks and drivers for computers we no longer have. I was thinking a half inch deep cut in a 2x4 (circular saw) would be a great way to line them up and make them explode. Decent idea? I found 50 or 60 CD's today, but I could probably get another 50 or 60 if I asked coworkers, or just cleaned out the book shelf at home using stuff that's scratched beyond use, or old burned stuff that no longer wants to work in my car.
  19. I could have sworn I've heard Geoff May say that he'll be racing it. And I know for sure that he said the goal is to build (and sell) one-hundred 1190RS units this year. He mentioned it on the NESBA board in the thread where he's selling his huge tour-bus style motor home. standby... (link to the full thread http://tracktalk.nesba.com/showthread.php?t=17015&highlight=1190rs)
  20. does a gopro work on a cigarette lighter? I know there is something you can buy that hooks up to a battery tender that turns it into a cigarette lighter. Designed for use with GPS (i assume), but it would work for anything.

    CL fail

I only blame the parents. Teachers can't impose real consequences, and if they try, the parents usually bitch and complain! "My son is smart! you can't fail him!" It's not the school's job to make sure your kid isn't a moron; it's their job to provide an opportunity to learn. If parents don't instill in their child the value and necessity of having a decent education, teachers are fucked before they ever get started.

    Seriously???

you know, sometimes the trades can work out in your favor. A guy on anther forum traded his 650R for a lot of legos. Not kidding. He sold the legos for like $4000, and got a 600RR a few months later. Definitely came out ahead on the deal just by taking time to find a buyer for the trade item.

    Seriously???

I got 3 or 4 of those that lead directly into a scam. What's more irritating are the a-holes who just make totally unreasonable offers. I had both my bikes up for sale a few months ago; the Kawasaki for $1800 (worth $1100-1300 maybe?) and the Honda for $3800 (worth $3100-3500). I built in some "CL idiot" pricing buffers. So when I got an email offering $700, I assumed the guy was talking about the Kawasaki. Nope. He offered me $700 for my track bike, because "you said yourself it's not street-legal." Well no shit; it's set up for the track, which was VERY CLEARLY stated in the ad... It would be like me responding to an ad for a drag racer, and offering 1/5 the asking price because "you said yourself it doesn't get very good gas mileage."
  24. they shouldn't have to legislate that. If it's not "interstate" commerce, it should be left to the state anyway. That's what the constitution says. Regardless, find me anything that's 100% made, packaged, and consumed in a single state, and I'll give you a cookie. EVERYTHING is interstate commerce these days. It's something the founding fathers never anticipated. It took days; even weeks to travel from state to state in 1789... A national economy wasn't a consideration. We're stuck with a 220 year old square peg, and a round hole.
