Time to upgrade helmet. Need "oval" or "long oval" - what to look at?
redkow97 replied to Phreon's topic in Daily Ride
has anyone slummed it and bought an AFX helmet? The only thing I'm reading that I really don't like is that they only have 1 shell size... I wear a medium or a large, depending on the brand, and my dome looks HUGE in Bell helmets, and badass in Scorpions. I much prefer the smaller shell... -

I've only done about 500 miles of street riding this season, and this is the first time I've had a plated bike since 2011, so right now I am wearing the same helmet for street and track. I honestly think that expensive helmets are more necessary for street rides, where you're going to be wearing the lid for hours on end. My track helmets are only worn for 30 minutes at a time or so, and I am so focused on riding that I don't notice any mild discomfort in the padding, etc. I haven't done so recently, but a few years ago I did quite a bit of research on which helmets provided the best protection for the least amount of money. Thus how I started buying Scorpions. But now they've changed all their models so many times that I don't even know which one fits me any more... -

Plans are all well and good, but some of us go through helmets a lot quicker than that. And the 5 year rule is not a joke. I have two identical Bell Vortex helmets. One I crashed the second day I wore it. It went on a shelf in my closet, for use as target practice. The second one I have worn for the last 2 years. I put the "old" one on the other day, and the difference in fit is extremely significant. The padding just breaks down in the helmet you wear more often. And I am religious about washing out my helmet after a day of use. I come home from the track, and bring the helmet into the shower with me, then dry it on a fan over night. With any significant use, I can't foresee a helmet really lasting more than 2-3 years tops... I try to buy safe helmets without creature comforts. -
I had a full Arata titanium system on my 600RR. The only difference mechanically between yours and mine would be the fuel injection changed mildly in 2005. Anyway, I thought it sounded good, but the bigger deal was that the titanium weighed a TON less than the stock setup.

Conscious and saying ridiculous shit is still better than unconscious.

Not my cup of tea, but it's priced ride, and the specs make it look like a winner in the segment. Pending a road test, it looks like a decent bike.

Riders Discount had mentioned they were going to post on how to measure and fit a helmet for online purchase. I know that's not a direct answer to your question, but it might help open up some more model options. I have never owned a helmet that I felt really fit me perfectly. I'd like to find that, and just start stocking up on them... -
I don't understand why boiling it makes it worse and not better, but that's scary as shit. I wouldn't have even read the article if this were for my area. Would have just boiled water and gone about my business.

How firm are you on your budget? My grandmother doesn't feel comfortable driving any more, so her 2001(?) mercury sable with 40k on the clock will be sold in short order. That's assuming my dad hasn't already sold it... I don't know if he was asking $3k or 4k...

historical plates: how to ride them on the reg
redkow97 replied to Gixxus Christ!'s topic in Daily Ride
Definitions are usually in the .01 through .04 code sections of the appropriate general heading. I'm intrigued enough to look into this for 5 mins on Monday. See if there's a y case law. That said, a common sense definition of a "car show" would require at least a handful of vehicles gathered by invitation and/or announcement. On the flip side of that, you are presumed innocent. I wouldn't lie about where you're coming from or going to - leave it to the state to prove you weren't. It's extremely hard to prove what someone wasn't doing. -
Dad throws 3 month old from moving car in FL. Uh wtf?

I was comparing it to other things I've seen parents do while fighting with their spouse. Come to think of it, a lot of the most horrific things that I've seen at work are perpetrated by mommy's boyfriend. The State gets involved when mommy forgives him, and allows the child(ren) to remain at risk of future ass-hattery. -
what's wrong with decals?

I didn't get the impression that he was the baby's father. ...but I've seen shit almost that crazy working for job and family services. -
dogs can develop allergies. If the food change doesn't work, I would also try dinovite, and then consult a vet. Dogs aren't cheap. and +1 to the furminator making it look like something was killed in your yard. I always joke that we have enough fur to clone both our dogs.

Bad lives just South of there, but he's currently looking for employment. I don't see why he'd be out that early. Probably wouldn't ride the bike to a job interview. I'm 2 or 3 exits West of 77, off 480. Wasn't me. Did you see what kind of bike it was? I used to work in the office building at the corner of Pleasant Valley, and my friend Tyson rode a blue FZ6R

I would love if it were something totally unexpected - like an extreme closeup of Casper's dong, with text that says "OhioRiders.net - almost as gay as this business card."

There is a lengthy thread about living full-time on a boat on the WERA forum. Lots of good info if anyone is curious. It's not the life for me, but I see the appeal.

Pegram Racing in Canal Winchester is now an EBR dealer!
redkow97 replied to max power's topic in Daily Ride
I like it a lot, but it's barely an SV650/EX650 competitor. I want an EBR-influenced Daytona Sportbike contender. 110hp, and 340 dry. Engine configuration can be whatever works... -
which is one thing HD has shown me 20 years of.

my fillet skills need a quick refresh... Hopefully someone who owns one of the lake houses is in practice. But they do more drinking than fishing.

I wouldn't write off a Hero bike. At least not without seeing one in person and examining the build quality. -
To play devil's advocate for a minute here, should Erik Buell not be held accountable for entering into a 'partnership' with Harley Davidson that put him in that position? From a motorcycle technology perspective, I'm not a huge fan of HD. From a business and marketing perspective, I think they have some seriously admirable characteristics. I would own HD stock before any of their motorcycles ...or t-shirts.

I posted this in the Blast thread, but I really hope EBR introduces some 'less premium' bikes in the near future. I'm not saying I want it to be garbage, but I'd like to see an 800cc twin that is competitive with Japanese 600's, and weighs less. I just don't want (and can't afford) a $18k superbike. Or the naked version. -
I really hope the Hero partnership/investment yields awesome things for EBR. I understand their marketing need to introduce a superbike, but I'd really like to see a middleweight...

thanks for the links. I printed a bunch of that stuff to bring with us. I'll probably just leave it on the boat when we're done, but we can track where the fishing is decent on the lake that way too. Then hopefully remember next year. debating trailering the bike up, but the local roads look kind of shitty, and some probably aren't paved (which might actually be more fun...) Not ideal conditions for the Tuna, but a little loose ground never hurt a 500 lbs. bike
