Around 8am I look out the window at the apt we're staying at and glance over at the foothills in the Sacramento direction and notice that it's still pretty hazy and foggy over there. Check the weather forecast and see that they are calling for late afternoon showers. I decided to take the risk and rode out without my raingear, (same critical mistake I made several weeks back during my PA journey). Fast forward to 1745 and I'm once again looking at the foothills and notice that the haze has come down over most of San Jose area and I'm screwed for sure. Throw on the gear, start the bike, and prepare to have Mother Nature piss on me once again. By car the trip back to the apt would be 20min w/o traffic, and 45min to an hour during rush hour. Once I pulled onto the on ramp and saw that cars were stopped 20 deep waiting to merge onto the freeway, and could see that the mist is getting thicker, I began to curse this global warming weather (Only 70-75 here today), just then an R6 blows by me and the other stopped vehicles waiting to merge and goes about his journey. That's when it hit me, "I'm in California and on a bike, I don't have to sit in traffic moving less than 30mph". With this realization I fall inline behind this other kindred spirit and proceed to lane split rush hour traffic. Kinda daunting at first, but fun. Just before I got comfortable my escort pulls off at the next exit and leaves me to figure this out for myself. I slow down and start picking my moves, when a HD chopper comes flying by me and gives me a "follow me" wave. So I do, and for the next 5 miles I was bobbing and weaving between the lanes like an old pro, and that 45 minute trip home was reduced to about 10 minutes. Lane splitting, it's a good thing:cool: P.S. I did get caught in the rain and was hit by at least 5 rain drops before it stopped. This riding in the rain sux. Tomorrow I have an early morning hour+ ride up to Tracy to meet the moving company and will record the trip. Funny, the only thing I miss about OH-IO so far are you folks...
