HeavyDuty
My wife told me if I was a real Iron horsemen all I would need to take are my boots jeans and a tee shirt. That may have been alright 40 years ago but the only thing Im doing now is not shaving for the whole trip. Its time to figure out what I will realy need to take. 2talltim
Just re-read the Iron Butt web site on all the hoops we have to jump through. I'm once again debating on just enjoying the journey instead of worrying about getting the documentation.
Tonik
Form beginning and end. Timed receipts and a basic log. Is there more?
2talltim
Form beginning and end. Timed receipts and a basic log. Is there more?Just the start and end witness, and the "what ifs" (cant get a receipt, cant get a witness), paying the fee. Just to get a piece of paper that tells me i did something i already know I did. Dont take me the wrong way i super stoked to do this, maybe im just bummed its not time to roll yet. So mama Tonik going to be all of our start witness? And then hope the person at the first hotel will be the end witness?
Tonik
I will have her sign lots of extra forms. But people leaving from there own house should get their wife to sign and get a gas receipt there. At my house we will get a little gas just a block away and then again at the turnpike rest stop.....that shows the start time and the corner we took.Yea, we beg the hotel or a gas station. Key is tell them to list their address as the work address, no personal info. Plus we get gas at the end.
2talltim
Was looking at the planned maps and it looks like we will miss a big part of the badlands. Look at Rt SD240 that cuts through the bad lands? Looking at google street view there is some beautiful scenery on that road and would only add 45 miles to that day. Tonik
Let's do it. Map it out do I can see what you mean, even if you just show the section you want to add.

Connie14
As far as the documentation goes, don't sweat it too much. Keep a small piece of tablet paper to keep a log for the trip. Transcribe it into the form later. You can also use a voice memo on your phone.I am planning on bringing a ziploc bag for my gas receipts. If you lose a receipt, you will have a number of other witnesses with receipts at the same gas station and at the same time that can verify for you. Al Z. Heimer
Good call on the t-shirt. I'm not opposed at all to see more of the area. Like Tonic mentioned at the meet up I think. It's gonna be a photo op kinda day. Would like to stop and smell some of the roses and not just blast thru. Time allowing as it were. Tonik
Ok, I redid day three based on Captain Underwear's bad lands and store ideas. It is actually about 30 minutes shorter with the new route...which gives us time at the drug store/tourist trap (i like tourist traps) and actually seeing the bad lands instead of just a glancing drive by. Take a look let me know what you think. We have to go back up to the slab, the little roads that cut across to 240 are dirt, they look bad when using the little yellow google guy. http://goo.gl/maps/l3YGn
Tonik
Holy crap, look at the link below. It is the little yellow google guy on 240 along our new route. Dang, is it June 12th yet? http://goo.gl/maps/fkTD6

Tonik
I am 200 tops, depending on speed. I got a hose, we can steal gas from the goldwing or the harley. They kill us on mpg.

Tonik
Naw, we will be fine. I just stress over gas, always have. Comes from my old Honda. 129 miles hit reserve, 139 and you were pushing it. Before we leave I will know where every station is on the whole route. Push that arrow around that left hander and see what is next.Fuel wise feed me light around 220 with supposedly a gallon in reserve depending on the right hand. We are gonna sign out at 46&76 to get a gas receipt. Turnpike is just a couple miles west. We will be ready when we hit the rest area. HeavyDuty
My place of business calls me in to the office today and starts to give me grief about me taking my vacation in 2 weeks and try to cancel it and they know about my trip that I applied and got my vacation approved for back in December of last year. So here is what is going on there are five of us in my department It takes all five of us to keep it running smooth but we can get by ok with 4 so only one of use can be on vacation at a time My vacation starts on the 11th and ends on the 17th one of the other guys starts on the 18th and ends on 24th which is not a problem but the other 3 guys in the department all turned in their two week notice Friday. I worked for Eaton Corp for 31 years and get a pension and I’m at the age where I can get social security now. I told them I would be more than happy to work overtime and cover my coworker’s vacation time but if they canceled my vacation they would have my 2 week notice by the end of the day. My coworker is a few years older than me and retired after 30 years in the navy. Turns out my coworker told them the exact same thing I did. I will find out by the end of the week what they decide. I will be going no matter what their decision is. F-ing ass hats I may turn in my 2 week notice Monday anyway.

I see lots of places at 100 miles...but we better not miss them. There are some areas going across SD where gas stops get kind of scarce we've had a couple times where we were really wondering if we'd make the next stop because we passed one up trying to push it a little further.
