JackFlash
Does header wrap tape do anything for performance? Does it retain heat that is beneficial to performance,or is it primarily for appearance? .
Gixxus Christ!
It supposedly causes more heat to evacuate with the exhaust gasses but idk. I think it's great for hiding ugly rusted or dented exhaust.
2talltim
Only on HD bikes. It takes them from negative HP into the positive. Thought I would just turn this into another anti HD thread.
Tpoppa
I tried to use exhuast tape once. I couldn't get it to look perfect, and I am just a bit too OCD to live with that. Took it off and trashed it. I doubt there is any actual measureable change in performance. Edited August 4, 2014 by Tpoppa
MidgetTodd
No, just makes you look silly. Of no use on a stock bike.

Moto-Brian
It can help dissipate heat to a degree. Also primarily for the bodywork situation listed earlier. But, not advised on Titanium headers at all...

rawlins87
Keeps the pipes cooler next to your legs. Performance wise I thought it was supposed to help exhaust skavaging?
MidgetTodd
It does, but not on a stock bike. No need
JackFlash
It does, but not on a stock bike. No need Yeah, I was just wondering if it helped to burn fuelmore efficiently by preventing heat loss near thecombustion chambers, thus used as a performanceenhancer. Okay, thanks. . Gixxus Christ!
It insulates the pipes, keeping more-ish heat inside and less-ish heat outside. Adds less hp than stickers but more than fake carbon fiber.

Tonik
It does help exhaust scavenging, but only if you open up the intake side. Cool air naturally flows faster towards the hotter side. The wrap keeps the exhaust hotter. But the change is pretty small.

Bubba
The hot rodders must know some benifits to them... Pretty sure the primary benefit to wrapping headers in a car is to minimize the under-hood heat….less heat = better cooling and less likelihood of fuel vaporization in the fuel pump/lines/carb.Doubt that it has much utility in the newer FI set-ups other than cooling. aforrest4
I use heat wrap to prevent my over-sized performance exhaust from melting my racing plastics.
motocat12
I had it on my DR650 so no one would come up and ask why my header was glowing red. I bought the black, it faded to white. I have fears of going down and getting caught under the headerAn old boss's daughter driving a car in the rain hit a truck driver and he wasn't wearing a seat belt and he went through his window onto his smokestacks.
