One that has something I swore I would never mess with again...carbs Hoping to look at an '01 FZ1 this weekend, what are the common issues on this era? whaler
No Issues to speak of... 01-02 have had some issues with second gear (if abused), this was fixed on 03-05. Great bike, fast, comfortable and anvil reliable!

zx3vfr
I swore I'd never mess with carbs after my vfr750 but the 599 has no issues and since I know the person who owned it before me...
ricer1
I had a 05 FZ1 (Blue) and loved it until the deer hit my bike. You can pick them up at low prices, great bike.

whaler
FZ6 is another rock solid bike and 2008 has better brakes and fuel injection mapping!
Gixxus Christ!
Carbs are fine once you pay me to make them perfect.
Wolfman1
Can't go wrong with a Gen 1 FZ1. I loved my first one so much, after my wreck I decided to get another Gen 1. There are only a few things I would recommend. Get the carbs cleaned and synchronized. She is a little buzzy around 4500 rpm and throttle response was a little sluggish stock, so I went with a Ivan's jet kit and slip on exhaust. It dramatically changed the throttle response and almost eliminated the buzz. Another suggestion is replacing the rear shock as it just can't handle the weight of the average rider let alone two or luggage. Good luck with your purchase and let us know what you get! max power
Pick up the FZ1 and become friends with Ivan. He has everything you need to sort that bike out.
Ryan_c_F
Love mine. Being legitimately picky here: it's noisy as hell, in a 'what's that noise, now?' kind of way. Rattles, knocks, etc. Scared me into begging two different forum members for advice. Also the wind protection kinda sucks; the fairing is too far forward. Not too much availability for parts as they've been manufacturing the new generation for like 10 years now. Tremendous amount of buffeting comes off of the stock mirrors for some folks; there's a fix you can find on the YamahaFZ1oa site that tells you how to basically screw them in backwards; brings the mirrors down and out laterally and fixes a lot of the issue (looks better, too). Engine is kinda gutless at low revs - powerband is definitely of two different minds about itself. you can roll around town in 6th gear but you'll definitely need to downshift if you need to pass someone. Cruising at 75-80 puts you near 4700 rpm; I averaged about 41 mpg highway on my last trip. That said, it's also all-day comfy, ergos are nice for me, gearbox is good, the carb throttle response is better than the injection of the '06+, it's got the bigger fuel tank of the two models, and once you get over 5k RPM the engine screams. Really easy to throw it around corners, clearance is very nice. Pillion seat is pretty solid. And, if you look around hard enough, there's still a back inventory of Givi racks and cases that fit it for your touring needs. I'll run this one into the ground -- really like it. Bad324
That took long than I expected...I honestly had my mind set on not getting another bike or car until next spring but I made the mistake of just checking C list to see what was out there. Nothing will ever be the vfr so more than likely if I pick something up this fall it will be for sale next year and get to my old days
NinjaDoc
The one Paul posted looks like a very good deal. But try not to fall back again Brian, I fell and failed miserably. If half your mind is saying not to ride, don't ride, not as much fun compared when u really loved to ride.
TimTheAzn
At least hes one or the other. Unfortunately I am both. And having both hobbies gets expensive.
Bad324
Brian thinks he's both, too. He's not. The Gumba is too strong with that one. I just like all vehicular toys. I'm both plus a boat guy to boot

zx3vfr
I've got a kid, another on the way, a wife and a mortgage. But they key is only debt it a mortgage. I've got 2 bikes and multiple firearms. Wife does not know about most firearms. Easy to sneak AR parts in. Well once I figured out how to explain credit card charge for uppers. "It's not a gun, I didn't have to do a background check" I just tell her the actual gun part is like 60 dollars and she's fine with that lol. Bad324
But they key is only debt it a mortgage. That was the reason for the sale of the Tahoe and vfr. So my only debt would be the mortgage once my wife's student loan is paid off come next March. Then I free up plenty of toy fund!
