Scruit
Tore my MCL doing karate. Been a week now and the swelling has gone down but I can't walk on it still, or lift my foot off the ground without grabbing it with my arm. Headed to an orthopedic specialist this afternoon to talk over options. Best case is a partial tear and I just need physio and rest, 2 months. Worst case is a complete tear and I have to get surgery, which puts recovery out to 4 months. Currently can't even drive a car, so I'm getting a bad case of cabin fever right now. Haven't left the house since getting back from the ER last week. The Wee is in my garage on the battery tender, and even under best case I won't be able until November. Sorry to hear about your injury. I just had my ACL done a few weeks ago. Make sure you get a Game Ready ice machine for post operation. They ease the pain and reduce swelling. Get well soon! Helmutt
Hopefully it's nothing too severe and you can sneak in some ride time before winter. Sounds like we're all getting older. I've got some meniscus troubles setting in. Been taking glucosamine chondroitin daily most of the year to keep it at bay, but there are some days I have to live on ibuprofen too. Bullshit is what it is
Scruit
Just got back from the ortho consult. Tore my ACL too. FML. MRI next week then surgery soon after that. 6 month recovery. Thanks for the well wishes guys. I have about 3 weeks notice on the surgery so I'm gonna have to gather stuff up for it.

I'll put the Strom to bed next weekend just before my surgery and and hopefully be back up riding next year. I had ACL surgery December 18, 2014. I was back on the bike probably in March. Definitely was not able to bend my knee quite to the point where I had my toes on the peg but I had the arch of my foot resting on the peg on a 600rr. I probably took a 10 hour ride sometime in May and I also rode the epic that year for the first time. I did not get my toes on the peg until mid to late July when I went to the tale of the Dragon that year. I also got back on the quad riding motocross sometime in June. I had some setbacks so you may even recover faster than I did. I was kicked by a steer in my knee shortly after I started walking again. I also over did it a time or 2 at PT and my knee swelled up like a balloon. My advice is to try to keep the swelling out of your knee as much as you can and do your physical therapy and listen to your body if you feel like you're overdoing it stop. One of the best exercises I found that helped me recover the fastest was riding a bicycle whether that be a stationary bike or a bike on the road or what have you. I still cannot bend my knee that had surgery on it as far as I can my other knee but I can get my toes on the peg, sometimes a little discomfort. I'm doing pretty much everything that I want to outside of playing basketball not sure that I'll ever be able to do that again.

I have about 3 weeks notice on the surgery so I'm gonna have to gather stuff up for it. I tore my miniscus, ACL, and bone bruising in the knee . My surgery was about 3.5 weeks after the injury. Once I could walk (but before my surgery) , I rode an exercise bike as often as I could. I did a bunch of exercises to help with the recovery. I am about 3.5 weeks past my surgery, and I am still walking with crutches on uneven ground. I can walk short distances around the house without crutches, but my better half (which is a PTA) gets mad. According to my physical therapy plan, I am not supposed to walk without crutches until this Thursday. It is my intent to start riding a stationary bike tomorrow (if swelling stays down). I want to get back to normal ASAP. If you are interested, send me a PM with your email address. I will email a copy of the physical therapy exercises that you will perform after your surgery. If you start them prior to your surgery, it will aid in your recovery.

jporter12
Ouch! All of you are making my hand issues sound like NOTHING! I have a good friend going for ACL surgery in a couple days. None of these sound easy to recover from for sure!
Scruit
Not the worst thing that can happen, but it certainly does put into perspective the little things you take for granted. Being ale to carry a cup of tea upstairs? nope. One hand on crutch/cane and the other on the handrail, lest you fall.
Scruit
Got my surgery date. Ortho is hopeful I'll be back on two wheels by the start of next season. Fingers crossed. My bike is my DD during the season so it's quite a change to be caging it all the time.
Scruit
Had my surgery a week and a half ago. In physio rehab now. By the time the 2017 season starts off I'll be healed up enough to ride again. At this point I'd expect to be riding again in about 3 months, but that puts me in the middle of January.
Connie14
Get well soon! 3 months is probably about right. I had my surgery about 11 weeks ago. My wife said that I can't ride until I passed the wide balance test, and I passed it yesterday in physical therapy. I have a follow up meeting with my surgeon next week, so I should be cleared to start jogging and riding. January riding sounds like a good excuse for heated gear. smccrory
Another plus one on doing the PT - it really helped me after 4-level cervical disc replacement.
Scruit
Quick update: Physio is going well. Good days and bad days. My knee is feeling better but I still don't have the strength. My PT says that riding at the beginning of next season should be no problems assuming no major setbacks. Currently rocking a handicap placard for parking due to being unable to walk for more than couple hundred feet without causing calf pain for the rest of the day. This is slowly getting better as I build that muscle back up. Looking forward to 2017.
JustinNck1
You got this. By the time its riding weather, you'll be all set. It'll make getting back on the bike that much more rewarding.
