Twins are very good on the road, but 4 cyl have an advantage on the track. Any further advancements that could be applied to a V2 could also be applied to the 4 cyl. They had a V-4 (Ducati Apollo) and an I-4 (Ducati 125gp/4) back in the day, Most recent was the '07-'08 V-4 Desmosedici RR.
