Aviation gasket sealer. NAPA. Even use it on head gaskets around the oil gallery passages. Same stuff as far as I know. editedit: Ok, I used to use it on everything, and still do. Even dipped head bolts in it, if they went into water or oil passages. Need to order blinkers and maybe these mufflers this weekend: Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/253083576244 As far as looks, pretty sure I'm gonna black it out. I'll have the fork lowers, wheels, fenders and backrest powder coated satin black and have the tank and side covers done in high gloss black for a little contrast. Debating on keeping the rectangle headlight and putting a sealed LED light in it or switching to a 6" round headlight.... would also like to put a later year fender on but not sure if it will work with the seat... pics once I make some more visible progress. Bonus: the 1984 was the only year with 3.40:1 gear in the rear end, all others had 3.14:1. The 3.40 was put in to compensate for the 700cc motor but the following year they added a tooth to the countershaft instead and went back to 3.14:1. Because I have a 750 motor swapped in it will have shorter gearing than a stock 750 or 700, so should be quicker off the line. Whelan Posted August 21, 2017 Report Share Posted August 21, 2017 You're likely gonna have to make your own exhaust gaskets, I couldn't find any new ones anywhere. The final drive swap is/was a common mod, my friend did it to his V65. These bikes weren't made for chasing top speed, might as well get them torques off the line. I say keep the rectangular headlight. That and the stereo horns just scream "MID 80s HONDA!" and I love it. I enjoy seeing your updates, they remind me of working on mine. Tried several different retailers that listed the part as "in stock" but nobody had it. When I looked on eBay, there was one gasket. I needed two. ReconRat Posted August 21, 2017 Report Share Posted August 21, 2017 My experience was that the muffler packing gaskets are always hard to find. I don't know why. I do remember being very careful with the ones I had already in there, knowing they would be a problem if damaged. Nothing wrong with using the ones you have, but you might notice some exhaust gases getting past and leaving marks on the pipes. Try these two for hard to find Honda parts: http://www.servicehonda.com/ http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/ or for classic bikes: Find the part number and google search for the part number. I've used that to find stuff when only a few were available anywhere. The slave cyl I got on eBay is fucked. Seals are shot and the piston is frozen. It's like something is trying to keep me from riding this bike.... Riders discount actually didn't have these items so I ended up on eBay again. Side cover comes today, it better fucking fit. Put on the replacement left side hand controls yesterday too, so now I have a headlight plug that isn't melted. Yay me. Looking into an LED headlight for this and maybe put an acewell digital gauge on to make it cooler and get rid of the fucking lunch box that houses the stock clocks and dummy lights. Started it up and tried to ride it yesterday, stalled out instantly when trying to roll out on first and then the battery was dead....need to wire the voltage regulator back up so it charges the battery... While I'm there in going to install a set of emgo reverse megaphone slip-on mufflers he bought on his 86 magna 700. Will get to hear the mufflers I'm looking at buying without buying them first!
