Popular Post Tpoppa
So, I found a new, better job and am going to leave my company. I work for a company that used to be a good place to work but has become cruel and soul crushing under new management. They've literally laid of thousands (at least 5k) of US employees and sent their jobs to India, Philippines, etc. Not bad employees either, these are the people that built this company. They secretly train people overseas then when they are sorta trained they fire entire departments & close entire locations with no notice. People literally find out Friday afternoon they don't have a job Monday after 10 or 20 years . There's been at least 30 rounds of firings (probably more but they try to keep it secret). I realize this is a trend in some industries, but my company is aggressively eliminating a huge chunk of it's US workforce. Now what we have is thousands of poorly trained people, that can't effectively communicate with customers. Work has suffered, clients are constantly complaining...many have left altogether. They kept a few key employees, like me, to clean up the messes of our new cheap labor. No thanks. I'm officially quitting next week. I can't fucking wait to tell them. 1

I'll be there 2 or 3 weeks a year, but other than that I'll be working from home.

theroamr
I think I mentioned my mom worked for your current company. She couldn’t wait to retire. She also says it was soul crushing
JustinNck1
I've been at a company where a corporate takeover ran the company promptly in the ground. I got out just over a year ago. I found out a couple weeks ago, all my old coworkers are losing their jobs after Christmas. Sad for them, but I was relieved I got out when I did. ScubaCinci
Sounds like you are leaving at a good time. I've been at my company 23 years and may be leaving soon. I'm burnt out...I may just take some extended time off.

She also says it was soul crushing I remember you saying that. Last year they offered a "Voluntary Early Retirement Plan" to employees over 55 with at least 15 years of service. It said voluntary enough times to make an age discrimination law suit difficult. Everyone I spoke to said the message seemed more like leave now because you're no longer wanted here. It was a corporate tactic to get rid of people that have been here long enough to make a decent living. Over 70% of them took the offer, which was around 3,000 people. Many of those were our "go to" people and subject matter experts. They've been replaced with entry level people, most overseas. It's pretty much been a shit show. I feel like I'm jumping off a sinking ship.
SpecialEd
Life is way too short to work a job you don't like. After working 39 years I found my dream job, and am leaving my current workplace this coming March 3rd after only 18 months. Great pay and benefits where I am now but, as you say, it's pretty much a shit show also--no satisfaction and no fun at all. Congrats to you, Tony, for being true to yourself.

SpecialEd
Tony, I'm certain many of us would enjoy hearing the details about how that day unfolded for you. Please give us a synopsis. Virtually all of us have, at some point, dreamed about doing what you did! My turn comes in February . . . Merry Christmas to all.

How does that ever make sense?

I didn't spit any venom at my manager, or the director above him. They are decent people and not the problem. Our CEO and top execs are the problem. The operate with zero transparency, everyone below them is constantly left in the dark. Locations are closed, entire departments are shut down with not so much as an email letting people know. I've tried to call people that I've just spoken to a few days before, only to find out their department no longer exists. When you fire a bunch of people, stock prices will temporarily go up (due to reduced costs) then go back down. After a recent huge layoff, our CEO just sold over $20 million in stock, per SEC filing. Nice. My company has fucked over enough people there's actually a online forum where ex employees (and some current) share information on what's been happening. I let my manager and director know that I know what's going on. My entire department is likely going to be out on their asses by the end of 2019. I left before I had to take a bite out of that shit sandwich. 3

snot
Automotive is taking a hit. GM is closing a few plants and Ford is laying off thousands of saleried positions. Automotive suppliers will feel the pain soon, I know some already do. Personally, I do my job and watch my budget - just in case. I am always looking in other industries. Gixxus Christ!
I made a similar move back in March. Left an aerospace company that was circling the drain to work at a tool and die company that makes the machines that make cans. Crazy busy shop making tons of money. They've bought a couple million dollar machines since I hired in, with more on the way, and are leasing more and more of the building we occupy to make room for expanding operations. Nice to see machines being delivered instead of watching them be put on trucks and sent to Mexico. Congrats on the move, hope it works out long term.
JustinNck1
This must be the time of the year. I am leaving my Marketing job at the end of the week. I was only there 13 months, I couldn't imagine leaving a company after 13 years.

I found you actually miss out on most good days of riding. Plus, most Ducati owners are insufferable cunts to deal with. 1
