BIGGU
Ok well after the last lan party i noticed my temps were higher then i would like on my CPU . not in the danger range but hotter then i wish. i have maxed out my antec 900 case and i dont really want to upgrade to a new case because i really like how my 900 looks. so i took on the project of being a select few people that have watercooled a antec 900. theres not much info out there of people doing the 900 case so i figured heck why not. heres the setup, all danger den products Danger Den TDX for AM2 Danger Den D5 pump (varible speed) Danger Den X-Flow Black Ice Xtreme Danger Den Single 5 1/4" Bay Reservoir 1/2 ID tubing MCP-40 coolant i have everything i need with exception of my waterblock and reservoir but i have the radiator mounted. i have never watercooled before so this is new to me but well see what happens heres a few pictures of whats been done so far. i mounted the radiator, originally i wanted to mount it 100% internally but that will no happen. due to tanks being on different sides it will not even allow it to mount. at first i was debating where to move it. cant put it on the side of the case because its to think. cant mount it in front because it wont fit in a bay well only thing left is mount it outside. well problem with doing that is i dont want the lines to run outside and then run it. well idea struck i could mount it and have the lines inside still. well i grabbed out a drill (antec 900 is a cheap case anyway) and drilled 2 holes for the coolant lines to run through. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/2zumeunos/Watercooling/IMG_0700.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/2zumeunos/Watercooling/IMG_0701.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/2zumeunos/Watercooling/IMG_0702.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/2zumeunos/Watercooling/IMG_0703.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/2zumeunos/Watercooling/IMG_0704.jpg still work in progress. next thing to tackle is mounting the pump. still trying to figure out the best way to mount it but well see. water block will be here on the 10th so check back later that night and ill have the finished progress. if you have any tips let me know! i plan on watercooling my video card soon but that will be another day. Mr. Jones
A+ I got the same pump, lines, and resevoir, but running 1x 120mm radiator and 1 x 240mm radiator. I absolutely LOVE that pump. Keep it set @ 5..
Mr. Jones
I am confused as to the routing of the piping though. You should typically have the water come straight out of the resevoir, to the pump then to the cpu. RES>PUMP>CPU-BLOCK>RADIATOR>RES Supplies the coolest water possible to the block. Scotty2Hotty
What happens if it leaks? What I was thinking.... is it like blowing a water pump?
Mr. Jones
What I was thinking.... is it like blowing a water pump? To answer your question I have had both happen. I sprung a leak on one of the external radiator connections, it dumped a ton of coolant on my floor, and overheated the cpu, causing the pc to shut down. Strike 1! Few weeks later, I come home to a rather rotten smell, the pump had failed and again caused the cpu to overheat. However the pump suffered a slow bearing related death, causing a rancid burning plastic smell throughout the room. No doubt its life was decreased from the previous low running leak. So long as you run good non-conductive coolant its generally not a big deal if you spring a small leak. Otherwise a small leak becomes a very $$$ problem. :
mmrmnhrm
What video card do you have? I've got a DD 6800 block I've been trying to get rid of.
BIGGU
jones, right now i got it pump>rad>cpu>res>pump ive been doing a little bit of reading on tomshardware.com and they have stated it really doesn't matter what way it goes. not sure if i believe that or not im just trying it like this for now. i would definitely like to get another radiator but the case is just way to small for another one. if you spring a leak you should be fine as long as your running some kind of non conductive coolant. doing this will cause 2-3 degrees warmer temps rather then running plain distilled water but doing that and spring a leak = go kill yourself. right now i got the pump set at 2 but im going to increase it here soon once i get a proper check on all fittings to make sure theres no leak. i used plumbers tape on all fittings and then took the clamps and tightened them all the way down with pliers so its pretty firm. im still a noob at water cooling but im sure ill learn the tricks of the trade soon. my video card is a 8800 GTS Superclock. i had 2 at one time but it was just overkill. Guest 78novaman
I've used watercooling for years so I could have silent computers. I build my own setups though. No chincy plastic clips for me. I've got good old fashioned metal automotive type clamps. Couple that with an aluminum tranny cooler, 120mm fans, and a 110gph pump to create a silent but extremely effective cooling system. My most recent setup I built about a year ago and allowed me to overclock my E6600 2.4Ghz to 3.42Ghz. The temp only gets up to about 55*C in a 95*F warehouse lan party. I know that sounds hot, but for reference at stock speeds it ran about 40*C under full load in my room. Also, be sure to heat soak test that system by running prime95 for over an hour to be sure it can keep up.
