Alex L.
Hey all, just wanted to share a few pics with you. I got a Nikon D40 for Christmas, and have been trying to add photography to my studio resume. Here's what I got: 1. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Auto%20Show%202008/turbovideos049_2.jpg 2. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Auto%20Show%202008/turbovideos043.jpg 3. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Auto%20Show%202008/turbovideos041.jpg 4. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Auto%20Show%202008/turbovideos039.jpg 5. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Auto%20Show%202008/turbovideos037.jpg 6. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Auto%20Show%202008/turbovideos031.jpg 7. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Auto%20Show%202008/turbovideos027.jpg Even though I'm still terrible at photography, it was a really fun show to shoot. I think I'll take a new Camaro in black too.

Draco-REX
I think I'll take a new Camaro in black too. Just make sure that you get the brake caliper option.
Patrick
It looks like they had some pretty kickass historical cars there this year. What else was there?
Guest 78novaman
I took my camera but when I saw the abysmal lighting I didn't bother. I can see you had the problem with having to crank the ISO level up, creating noise. I like the LS7 and the Camaro 3/4 shot, the robot pic is sweet. Yeah, the lighting really was miles below par at the show. You'd think that they'd try to have a little better lighting for people to shoot there, but I guess not. B3NN3TT
That old Porsche was killer; did you get any shots of the interior? There were indeed some decent classics there this year. They had an 87 GNX in pretty much immaculate shape. And a 61 Lincoln Continental with 1,100 original miles. Unbelieveable stuff.
ODoyle
Just make sure that you get the brake caliper option. i was actually talking to the guys at the booth/stand where the car was display'd and he said since that was the "hero" car they used in the movie that the actual calipers were behind the faux rotors. the rotors you see are a part of the wheels that bolt on to the car
TTQ B4U
chroma noise is pretty easy to clean up though. what lens did you use? Yeah, the lighting really was miles below par at the show. Mitch
chroma noise is pretty easy to clean up though. Really? I know I can adjust it in Adobe Camera Raw, but I never really got rid of it when I was zoomed in at 100% or greater. What do you use to get rid of it? With my camera ISO 800 or higher are worthless for anything but snapshots.
Tractor
Myself I would drop the ISO and increase the shutter speed. I can usually take a couple shots at the same subject and get at least one good one at around 1/3sec. You could get a mono pod for those quick stop, frame, and shoot situations. The lighting in a large showroom style building is still gonna be very hard to do much of anything though. Best bet is post shot processing as suggested. Nice shots for sure though. Alex L.
chroma noise is pretty easy to clean up though. what lens did you use? Those were all with my Nikkor 18-55mm. There really wasn't a need to use the 55-200mm zoom there. There were some really cool old cars there. That GNX has to be worth a mint. Sorry, but I didn't get any pics of the interior of the Porsche.
TTQ B4U
Yep. Key is exposure and nailing the white balance. These were pretty well exposed and lighting wise a simply $8 grey card or $.10 laser paper will all you'll need. I'll PM you a few things this weekend. This is ISO 3200 and I have nice 24x36 of it in my son's room which is themed planes, trains and automobiles. http://www.pbase.com/pdqgp/image/36442163 Here's a 100% crop of ISO 3200. http://www.pbase.com/pdqgp/image/39146541 You'll see grain in the online stuff but the crop above could easily be printed at 24x36 with no visible noise. Key there is print processing. Many folks improperly sharpen and do it at the wrong time. Always sharpen based on final use and typically for prints, not in Photoshop. Here's a crop of an ISO 3200 pushed one stop for an equiv. of ISO 6400. http://www.pbase.com/pdqgp/image/86546894 It may look bad to some, but you have to remember that what you're seeing is equivilent to looking at a 54" wide print at the distance of your monitor. Also, monitors will show more noise than an actual print. Really? I know I can adjust it in Adobe Camera Raw, but I never really got rid of it when I was zoomed in at 100% or greater. What do you use to get rid of it? With my camera ISO 800 or higher are worthless for anything but snapshots.
TTQ B4U
Not sure if you're using the older kit lens or the newer Tne 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G AF-S VR. I'm not a Nikon owner, but have read some good things about the latest model. It's entry level and plastic, but it's priced right and if I owned a Nikon, would consider it a great addition to my bag. VR is priceless, especially if you are on a budget and don't have the money for fast glass. Those were all with my Nikkor 18-55mm. There really wasn't a need to use the 55-200mm zoom there. Alex L.
My lens says 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6GII AF-S, but I don't see VR anywhere on it. If this lens isn't the VR model, I'll have to get some more info on it. Not sure if you're using the older kit lens or the newer Tne 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G AF-S VR. Mitch
It most likely isn't the VR model VR is printed in bold red letters on the lens and there is a VR on/off button on it. Most D40 kits have not been shipped with it yet. It is standard on the D60. Do you do video as well? just wondering what the studios title means. Regardless you are off to a good start. Alex L.
The main thing that Firehead Studios does is video. I've just been trying to get into photography so I can offer one more thing through the studio.
