This is what I do:

I went up to the Detroit region to get my RallyX fix, and attended their "Spring Fling" RallyX at Crystal Motor Speedway. It was a blast with only two sloppy corners. The physical size of the course looked close to the OVR course size, but the times were WAY down (50 sec.+ in the morning, high 40 second runs in the afternoon.) This was a fast course. :D So here are pics of Jr breaking in his new rims and tires.

Here's why rally tires have such THICK beads:

Look at the direction I'm looking (those are the SOLO/SCCA stickers on the left cheek of my helmet), where the front tires are pointing, and where the dirt is going. That's some 4-wheel DORIFTO action!

I don't think I could brake this hard on dirt without those tires:

There are more on my flickr account, just click the pics. Thanks to Rob Bucchi, Fred Stafford, and Kenneth Tsang for the pics! I'm hoping someone got some video of me too since my camera decided it wasn't going to work for me.

As a side note, I think I understand a bit of the ricer mentality. Ever since I went with white rims and stickers on Jr, I get a lot more looks from girls. Though unfortunately (or fortunately, depending..) they've all looked like jailbait. ;)

Looks like good fun. I had a blast last year when I did my first one. They have one more this month at Trails then some others around Ohio and Michigan I believe, I hope to make one of these again if I can find a car to drive as the Laser is asphalt only.

I had a LOT of fun. The tires made a huge difference but I was still beaten by a DSM with snows. RallyX is young enough that driving skill is still the #1 mod. There just isn't a 'killer setup' yet.

OVR, WOR, and Detroit divisions are having a Great Lakes Divisional. The first race is two sundays from today (4/20). It'll be at National Trails, overflow lot "F". Subsequent races will be in other locations. After the 20th, OVR RallyX will be on break until Sept. so you guys racing at National Trails don't get all dusty. (OVR is looking for another location so they can have more RallyX races, but it's difficult. It has to be either commercial or industrial/farming, and not many owners of either type like wasted space.)

Come, have fun, and get your cars dirty. There was actually A TBSS at the Crystal MI RallyX. I was very impressed with it. Someone also turned up in a 2007 Lincoln MKZ. :D Honestly, if it's got 4 wheels, runs, and passes tech, it's probably been raced in RallyX. Old volvos, buicks, Crown Vics, etc. So come out and race whatever you've got. :) You dont' have to drive hard to have fun.

That looks fucking awsome! There Is the reason for me buying a WRX this winter.

..and get a hold of me. There's a lot of fun to be had out there if you're not afraid of getting your car a little dirty. :)

(Plus the annual COS Hocking Hills run is a nice bonus. Just get your WRX before 9/13.)

god damn, i wish i had a WRX just for that. need a co-driver?

I have in the past, but I wasn't happy with the beating the car took. :( You could always ask around, or borrow a car. ;) Fastest car at the OVR races is a 2001 RS. At the Crystal MI RallyX, it was an AWD Mazda 323!! Fast is pretty cheap in RallyX. A friend that I traveled to MI with raced his 2000 Impreza Outback wagon in Stock AWD, and placed 1st above a number of WRXes. A couple minutes of looking at CL netted some likely RallyX cars.
