Alex L.
Hey everyone, I just got finished editing/uploading some pictures from the 2008 EMCO Gears Classic at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. I believe that this is my best set of shots so far. I had a lot of fun taking these shots, and I hope that you guys like them. *NOTE* I did not have a press pass, so the action shots are taken through the fence. I know that this will be the #1 complaint about the shots, so I am just forewarning you. 1. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Mid-Ohio%202008/1.jpg 2. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Mid-Ohio%202008/2.jpg 3. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Mid-Ohio%202008/3.jpg 4. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Mid-Ohio%202008/4.jpg 5. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Mid-Ohio%202008/5.jpg 6. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Mid-Ohio%202008/6.jpg 7. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Mid-Ohio%202008/7.jpg 8. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Mid-Ohio%202008/8.jpg

Alex L.
Where did the random Prelude come from? Nice pics btw The Triple Crown Tuner Challenge was going on as well, and that pic was from the speed competition. It was one of the shots that I liked from the event, so I included it. Pat - Just how I do it.

Alex L.
7 and 11 have issues all the other black and whites are good. I was just trying the desaturation thing out. The more I look at them, the more I too believe that I should have kept the color. Oh well, I guess I learned something.

Alex L.
Whatever floats your boat. It doesn't bother the other pro photographers on Access Photo, so I'm not going to worry about it.

On those two you just need to play with the contrast and brightness. Number 11 is a little blown out, and theres really not a lot of saving that. Clifford Automotive
In black and white you want to be looking for pure black and pure white. The white was easy I used the blown portion of the pass. window. The black I just brought the contrast up and actually made it a litle dark. You'll be there in no time. How does it look on your monitor? Image / Adjustment / Brightness and Contrast its I think 7 down in the adj box. Also you can tweak your levels. Dont use the auto levels do it your self. Top choice in the adj. box. Take the middle tab and move it to the left. When you think you made it too bright stop. Then take the left tab and move it to the right to bring your colors back. It does wonders.

TTQ B4U
could be a glass issue.....is that the stock lens they ship with them? lots of stock type glass will have constrast and color issues. same with us in the Canon camp. Notice the last shot with the Canon 1-Series and the nice L-lens.....he won't have those issues, but he should be kicked in the head for not using a hood. also, use lens hood 100% of the time. will help in case of an accident with the camera too. good shots and enjoy the learning curve. it's a fun ride....pun totally intended. Play around with RAW and what the histogram if your camera has one. the lighting there was bright and clipped your shots in some cases pretty badly. Carry a polorizer anytime you plan on shooting cars in sun too. it will help with glare. I have a ton of photoshop action sets for B&W too. Makes converstions a snap and can give great results. I often times use them to start and tweak from there.. Just email me and I'll send them. Here my 2 second shop version of number 24. Quick levels adjustment. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/14biggy/Firehead%20Studios/DSLR/Mid-Ohio%202008/24.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u298/pimpjettay2k/24.jpg?t=1214422539
Alex L.
I'll have to mess around with the levels. I have been using RAW for a little while now, and I absolutely love it. I need to get some new lenses/polarizers/filters/etc. Photography is going to run me broke! It's been so much fun so far; there's nothing like taking a good pic and getting credited for it. Thank you guys so much for your advice!
