Need help finding a cheap decent bike!

A friend of mine just got a small settlement check and is wanting to find a bike. He's wanting to spend anywhere from $1500-3500. This will be his first bike so nothing to crazy. (600cc or smaller) Year/Make/Model doesn't matter. Thanks in advance, Steve!

But does it have to be a sportbike, or do you really mean anything? There's a ton of bikes on craigslist - you can pick up really cheap old cruiser bikes all day long.

Some gal in Columbus is trying to sell a 1997 Ninja 500R quick for $1500. KBB trade-in value is $1455. KBB retail is $2175. Nobody that I know of has looked at it.

The F4 on craigslist that was linked to would be a perfect starter bike. Very comfortable riding position and Hondas are the easiest to learn on IMO due to the not so aggressive riding position.

thanks for all the input guys! I think i found him a 99 f4i for $2850 18600 miles looks clean but needs tires, break pads, and fork seals it also needs a seat. Found it in the local bulletin board of all places!
