Worried About Home Break-Ins?

If anyone comes a knocking there are several toys that will get called into action. My personal favorite. Thanks to all for the tip on mounting the light for the Moss.

My alarm to let me know of intrusion and one of several guns to rid myself of the problem. My barking dog is an added bonus.

Although, I do believe break-ins are planned, meaning you're targeted. Therefore, if they want in, they're coming in.

The door locks seem to hold up well, it's the soft cheap pine the jambs are made of that usually give up especially against steel dead bolts.

Charlie bar for the doors FTW!! http://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-265DCCSEN-Dual-Function-Security/dp/B0002YUX8I/ref=tag_tdp_sv_edpp_i/175-7551823-0007136

This is true. A co-worker of mine uses these.

It is interesting how many folks here think thieves only break in when people are home.

The CBS Nation News this morning said the following will help prevent a fast smash and grab type of breakin:

Grade 1 Dead Bolt

Door Jamb Armor

This comes to about $200 per Door.

Sadly, if someone wants in, they will find a way.

Who uses a door to break-in? The only way I'm using a door is if I know nobody is home. As the saying goes, locks are for honest people.

I put alot of faith in my dogs, as well. I won't share it, but there are some sure fire ways to get around dogs, too. But, as someone said above, if someone really wants your shit, they'll get it. Every safety measure is only a deterrent not a solution. I will say this, you won't ever forget to "set" a dog to go off or forget to set the bolt on it.

The best idea would be to install multiple locked doors in each entryway ala Loony Tunes and shit. No way I'd keep going through doors like that. :D

No, in fact, I hope someone tries it. I'd love to shoot someone.

If it ever happens, you better hope the prosecutor doesn't find this comment, or anything like it about you. This goes for everyone on here saying how they are going to shoot someone if they enter your home.

I know you have the legal right to protect yourself. But you don't want anything that can be said bad against you. Like you are a 'gun nut'. Or you hoped someone would break in so you could shoot them. Even if you are never even arraigned on legal charges, you will be sued civilly and more is allowed there than in criminal trials.

Bottom line. If you are going to protect yourself with a gun, or any 'deadly weapon' if someone enters your home, just fucking do it. Don't tell anyone, don't post it on here. You're only setting yourself up to be in a worse case if you ever have to do it.

I was thinking the same thing.

Or what if they don't care that someone is home? And what if that someone is my girlfriend... or it's your wife or girlfriend?

I'm not the type to live life scared/paranoid of things like that. In fact I'm usually the opposite. But I'm also not so naive that I won't install an extra 'security' measure to protect myself, my loved ones.
