Yesterday was perhaps the best day....

to get out and enjoy the weather. So we packed up the car and spent most of the day at the Columbus Zoo with the kids. Good times had for all. I still have pounds of sugar from cotton candy and funnel cakes in my system

The great thing was most every animal in town was out and about enjoying the weather too. Ironically, it was not very crowded at all. In fact it was perhaps one of the lighter days we've seen, which was nice.

Some pics from the local Whore

One from a couple years ago that I still like a lot:

So for those with kids, you know how times can be great one minute and bad the very next minute right? So happened when my son found out that birds poop while you hold and feed them. No crap hit him, but he still freaked out.

Good Times

Bad Times

Of course I can't have just one assistant in my son; now my daughter has to have her camera with her too :)

A handful more:

Play Time for the Big Boys. Having seen them up close, I can say for sure, I would NOT want to be confronted by a wild Grizzly. According to the keeper there, he said these are relatively small compared to what they could be in the wild.

Damn those are sharp pictures.

Thanks. Image Stabilization helps hold the lens steady. At 6lbs+ the lens and body are a handful to lug around but combined with Stabilization, make for a very stable and sharp set up.

Here's what the 100-400L IS looks like on the Canon 40D

Collapsed at 100mm

Extended to 400mm

(650mm equivalent when on the EOS 40D) ---> That's why I like the 40D for long shot needs vs my 1D Series...crop bodies reach farther. Size Does Matter :p

Great shots, Tim! I had a picnic with some friends and my wife and daughter at Park of Roses. It really was a beautiful day!

An old fraternity buddy from college brought his wife and 3 kids down from Cleveland this past Monday just to go to the Zoo. Another frat brother drives his wife and kids over 4 hours each way from PA to go to our Zoo every few months during warmer times. It amazes me how popular the Columbus Zoo really is...

You should pick up the Extender 2x II for that lens Tim. Then we could see the snot coming out of their noses! That's 4.5 wide open right?

2x converter won't auto focus on the 40D though. Will work on my 1D Series, but then I lose the 1.6x factor and extra reach of the 40D, thus it's nearly a wash then.

yes, it's f/4.5-5.6L I rarely shoot that wide though. It does do well even wide open but I tend to stop-down a bit bumping ISO if I need to.
