Did you hear a "big boom" last Wednesday (2/4/09) night?

So a thread on CR has prompted me to post this.

The long and the short of it: Seems several people, myself included, heard what sounded like a sonic boom Wednesday night between 11:30p and 12:00a.

I heard it, and went outside thinking someone shot the house. The windows shook, the dogs woke and were freaking, etc. I searched everywhere and couldn't find anything. Checked the basement and garage, nothing. Called the Pickerington police. They said it was ice breaking on people's roofs. Not sure, but it was good enough for me to go back to sleep.

So then people started posting all over the area saying the heard the same thing. Okay, maybe this isn't ice breaking.

Here's a map Eric posted with points where people on CR live who heard it:

From Jackson to Delaware, the same sonic boom-ish sound was heard. Apparently, it wasn't just Ohio and it's been going on for a few months:

This particular story seems to revolve around the a boom possibly caused by a meterorite explosion or the like.

i read about this also i didnt hear anything but it seems to be around in very different places. some idea as to what it was i have read was off shore gun practices by the navy. if their muzzles are facing shore when they go off the muzzle blasts can be heard for hundreds of miles.

other than that :dunno:

Chalk one up here too. One of the women at the office was talking about it today at lunch.

It could be the new mach 12 stealth plane the Air Force is developing. I was watching the Discovery channel about area 51. Supposedly this jet can make it from Area 51 to New York in 10 minutes. Aurora I think was the name of it.

I was definitely awake and didn't hear it... weird. I live near Morse & 270 (east side).

Or maybe I did hear it and didn't think anything of it. I've got a lot of hillbillies and a columbus city bus station really close... lots of weird noises there.

I remember it! I remember saying something "WTF!" I live at an apartment complex and thought it might have been someone screwing around with the dumpsters around the property. When the trucks pick up the dumpsters it's loud a hell. But they come in the morning....It very well could have been a sonic boom...and i watched that show on area 51 and about Aurora. If it shook the house and didnt break windows it would have been very, very high.
